Abstract
The invention relates to a method for strengthening or rebuilding the strength of a brittle oxide substrate, which comprises the steps of coating the brittle oxide substrate with an aqueous solution containing a silane-based mixture and curing the coating to provide a transparent layer of the brittle oxide substrate. New compositions have also been shown to coat brittle oxide substrates, as well as silane coated brittle oxide containers.
