A method of multiple access.

A multi-access scheme within a telecommunications system has modest transmission delays and is referred to as the STDD (Shared Time-division Duplexing / Time-Shared Duplex Transfer). This form allows voice communication in both directions, ie in the form of outputs and inputs related to a user, the signals in both communication directions sharing a common channel. The form contains separate command channels for the connection in the two directions and a common voice information channel. The command channels comprise means for signaling voice requirements and confirming the allocation of allocated time slots. Excluding the use of speech activity registration, "speech packs" of the type "talk spurt" are generated, i.e., forced speech sequences. The STDD schema prescribes dynamically allocated time slots in the common information channel by utilizing coordinated bidirectional connection sequences to obtain a good average multiplex gain and more efficient utilization of the common information channel.
