Pliers positioning system positions a motorized pliers around an oilfield-pipe connection to connect or loosen a threaded connection. An extendable arm and a holding device on the extendable arm. In a preferred embodiment, the holder device comprises opposed laterally movable holder arms defining an adjustable opening for at least partially enclosing one of the upper and lower tubes. The extendable arm can be retracted and then moved the motorized pliers laterally to the pipe connection.
