1442790 Curable unsaturated resin compositions BASF FARBEN & FASERN AG 10 Dec 1973 [27 Dec 1972] 57148/73 Heading C3P Curable compositions, intended for use as photo-curable coatings on substrates, comprise (A) 14-20 parts by weight of at least one photosensitized light-curable condensation resin having a double bond value (defined) of 0À18 to 0À45; (B) 55-75 pbw of at least one filler of poor hiding power (defined); (C) 0À5-10 pbw of either a film-forming cellulose derivative compatible with (A) and soluble in (D) or a copolymer of vinyl chloride with at least one further monomer; and (D) 8-30 pbw of a non-reactive solvent, up to 5 parts of which may be replaced with a solvent which is a polymerizable monomer. The compositions may also contain a dyestuff and other conventional additives. In examples, the following components are used: (A) polyester resins derived either from diethylene glycol, dipropylene glycol, trimethylolpropane, maleic anhydride and tetrahydrophthalic anhydride or from 1,2-propylene glycol, maleic anhydride and phthalic anhydride; (B) cellulose acetobutyrate; (C) a mixture of blanc fixe, talc, and calcium carbonate; and (D) ethylene glycol monoethyl ether or a mixture thereof with ethylene glycol and toluene. Benzoin isopropyl ether (sensitizer), zinc stearate, and, in one case, a brown dyestuff are also present. The compositions are coated on to chipboard sheet and cured with mercury vapour high pressure lamps to form opaque coatings.
