Burglary protection for skylight
Background of the invention
The invention relates to a roof window comprising:
a frame that delimits a frame opening in use;
- a tilting window;
the tilting window being incorporated in the frame, tiltable about a tilting axis between a closed position, in which the frame opening is closed, and an open position, in which the frame opening is at least partly open;
wherein the tilting window comprises a four-post rectangular frame with a pane included therein; the tilting window further comprising:
- a ventilation passage provided in one of the posts;
- a cover which is movable between a closed position closing the ventilation passage and an open position releasing the ventilation passage;
a first locking part movable between a locking position and a release position, the first locking part engaging the frame in the locking position when the tilting window is closed, in order to lock the tilting window in a closed position relative to the frame, and wherein the first locking part in the release position permits tilting of the tilting frame around the tilt axis;
an actuator operatively connected to both the cover and the first locking member to move the first locking member and the cover when actuated between a first operating position in which the cover and the first locking part are in the closed position, and locking position, respectively, and a second operating position in which the cover and the first locking member is in the open position and the release position, respectively;
Roof tilt windows are generally known from, for example, US6135510, in which a sliding cam is shown for blocking a tilt window.
Also known is a tilting window of the brand Velux where an extra safety lock is available.
A drawback in the prior art is that the roof tilt windows are insufficiently robust with regard to opening from the outside by unwanted intruders.
Summary of the invention
The object of the invention is to provide an improved roof window and in particular a roof window with improved burglary security.
The invention provides a roof window for this purpose, the roof window further comprising a second locking part, which is movable between a locking position and an unlocking position, and wherein the second locking part engages on the operating member on the one hand and on the roof window for locking the operating member on the other the first operating position, and wherein the second locking member in the unlocking position releases the operating member for operation.
By locking the operating member in an operating position, additional protection is realized against unlocking the roof window. This extra security is all the more important when the operating member is at a ventilation opening, so that the operating member can be operated relatively easily from the outside.
In an embodiment of the roof window, the second locking part in the locking position engages on the one hand the operating member and on the other hand the tilting window for locking the operating member in the first operating position.
Because the second locking part engages on the tilting window, the second locking part can generally be made shorter, which improves the stiffness.
In an embodiment of the roof window in which the second locking part in the locking position is included in the frame (frame).
In an embodiment of which the second locking part is included in the frame in its locking position.
Because the second locking part engages the frame, the second locking part will also contribute to locking the tilting window in a closed position and further improve burglary security.
In one embodiment, the roof window is further provided with a locking part and the second locking part in the locking position is included in the locking part.
By using a locking part, the invention can easily be applied to existing roof windows by simply mounting the locking part. No further adjustments to the frame or tilting window are necessary.
In an embodiment of the roof window in which the cover is hinged to the frame on one side about a hinge axis along the ventilation passage, the second locking part is connected to the cover, slidable along the longitudinal axis of the second locking part and the longitudinal axis substantially perpendicular to the hinge axis is positioned and a locking part is provided at a side of the cover opposite the hinge axis.
Placing the second locking member transversely to the hinge of the cover provides a robust holding of the operating member. Tolerances of the fit of the second locking part in the locking part have the least influence in this embodiment and allow the smallest possible tilting of the operating member.
In one embodiment of the roof window, the actuating member includes a handle operatively connected to the second locking member to move it between the locking position and the unlocking position.
This embodiment offers an improved operation of the roof window, because when the roof window is operated, it is possible to be guided automatically of sliding the second locking part to, for instance, the unlocking position, so that the roof window can be opened.
In an embodiment of the roof window in which the handle and the second locking part are operatively connected by a gripping force substantially perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the handle.
By using the gripping force the operation of the second locking part is very simple and of course, when the roof window is unlocked naturally, the operating member itself is first unlocked and released in order to make the locking of the roof window operable. This coupling between the second locking part and handle provides an operator with the possibility of combining actions, unlocking the operating element and unlocking the roof window are feasible with one operation.
In an embodiment of the roof window, the second locking part is slidably connected to the operating member.
In an embodiment of the roof window, the second locking part is accommodated in a receiving space within the handle.
This integration of the second locking part and the handle offers a compact construction and a good and robust guiding of the second locking part.
In an embodiment of the roof window, the second locking part is biased to the locking position.
Due to the bias, the second locking member will automatically return to its locking position when the roof window is locked and the operating member is thereby automatically locked. This reduces the influence of operator errors such as, for example, simply forgetting to lock the actuator.
In one embodiment of the roof window, the roof window comprises an electric drive, drivably connected to the second locking member to drive it.
This allows an operator to remotely control the second locking part.
It will be clear that the various aspects mentioned in this patent application can be combined and / or each individually qualify for a divisional patent application.

Description of embodiments
Fig. 1 shows a roof window 1 in perspective. The frame 5 is connected to the roof and a tilting window (wing) 2 is rotatably mounted in the frame 5. The tilting window 2 comprises a frame (window profile) 3 with a glass panel 4 therein. The frame 3 is provided with an operating member 6 with which the locking (not shown) of the roof window 1 can be operated. Here, the operating member 6 is tiltably connected at its lower side to the frame 3, whereby tilting the operating member 6 relative to the frame 3 serves to lock the roof window 1. The operating member 6 is here provided with a handle 10 and a cover 11 covering a ventilation opening in the drawn condition.
Figure 2 shows a detail in perspective of a first embodiment of a roof window according to the invention. The operating member 6 comprises a locking part 7 which is slidably connected to a locking housing 25 which is attached to handle 10 by screws 26. The frame 3 here is provided with a locking part 9 fixedly connected to the frame 3. One or also such a locking part is possible 9 connected to frame 5. Locking part 7 can be brought into a locking position 8 in which locking part 7 is at least partly received by locking part 9, whereby operating member 6 is fixedly connected to frame 3 and the locking of the roof window 1 is no longer operable, thereby improving burglary security. The longitudinal axis of the locking part 7 and the longitudinal axis of the operating member 6 are substantially parallel, which is a good starting point for a far-reaching integration of the locking part 7 and the operating member 6. A second embodiment is conceivable in which the locking part 7 is locking position 8 is at least partially received in the frame 3 itself, possibly in a recess arranged in the frame 3.
Figure 3 shows a detail in perspective of a second embodiment of a roof window according to the invention. In this embodiment, the longitudinal axis of the locking part 7 is substantially perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the operating member 6. The locking part 9 is provided on that side of the operating member 6 opposite the side which is tiltably connected to the frame 3 around hinge 24. A robust locking of the operating member 6 is hereby obtained. Here, handle 10 is spaced from cover plate 11 by means of spacer sleeves 12. Locking member 7 is provided with a detent 13 which can be slid into position 8 to bring locking member 7 into its locking position.
Fig. 4 shows a detail in perspective of a third embodiment of a roof window according to the invention. Locking part 7 here extends largely within handle 10, whereby an integrated and compact solution is obtained. Handle 10 here is a hollow tube provided with a recess 14 through which locking part 7 can be operated by means of a catch 13. Spring 15 biases locking member 7 toward locking position 8 to ensure that actuator is locked. Locking part 7 is provided with a chamfer 16 at the end facing the locking part, so that locking part 7 is automatically guided into locking part 9 when closing tilting window 2 closes in conjunction with the pre-tension. Locking part 9 is fixed on frame 3 to make operating member 6 fixedly connectable to frame 3. It is conceivable that frame 5 is also provided with a second locking part, wherein locking part 7 extends in its locking position into the second locking part.
Fig. 5 shows an embodiment in which locking part 7 is partially received in frame 5 to lock operating member 6. For this purpose, frame 5 is provided with locking part 9 or recess 9. Furthermore, locking part 7 is here drivably connected to an electric drive 17. Various known drives are conceivable, such as for instance an electromagnetic drive with a solenoid which may be powered by a battery. The operation is preferably wireless, for example by means of an infrared connection.
Fig. 6 shows a cross-section of a handle 10. The operating button 18 drives a movement converter 19 by means of connecting piece 20, which is rotatably connected to handle 10 around cam 22. Locking part 7 is also connected to movement converter 19 by means of a connecting piece 20 and is driven by it. When an operator grasps handle 10 to open the roof window 1, the control knob 18 is simultaneously pressed downward and the locking egg 7 is released from the locking position so that the roof window lock can be unlocked and the tilting window opened.
Fig. 6 shows a known roof window with a locking mechanism 23 operated by an actuator 6 to lock and unlock the roof window.
It is to be understood that the above description is included to illustrate the operation of preferred embodiments of the invention, and not to limit the scope of the invention. Based on the above explanation, many skilled workers will be aware of many variations which fall within the spirit and scope of the present invention.
