Flow control grid

Abstract

A flow control grid includes a plurality of channel assemblies (51-66) connected to one another. Each of the plurality of channel assemblies (51-66) defines a flow straightening section (42) and a flow turning section (44). The flow turning section has 5 an arcuate segment (51K) and a first substantially flat segment. The first substantially flat segment (44A) is positioned in the flow straightening section (42). The arcuate segment (51K) extends outwardly from the flow straightening section (42).FIG. 1

  1. 1
A flow control system (40) for changing the direction of a fluid flow and developing a uniform flow velocity within a conduit (20), the flow control system (40) comprising:a flow distribution array (82, 84) comprising a plurality of tubes extending across a width of the conduit (20) and secured between first and second sides of the conduit (20);a plurality of channel assemblies (51-66) disposed adjacent to one another and arranged in a stepped configuration;each channel assembly for receiving a portion of the fluid flow including: a flow straightening section (42) including a plurality of flow plates (51B-51F) positioned substantially parallel to one another and spaced apart from one another to define a plurality of flow paths between the spaced flow plates (51B-51F);a flow turning section (44) disposed upstream of the flow straightening section (42), the flow turning section (44) including a turning vane (51A) for directing a respective portion of the fluid flow substantially to the plurality of flow paths defined by the flow plates (51B51F) of the respective flow straightening section (42), the turning vane (51 A) having an arcuate segment (51K) that extends outwardly and upstream from the flow straightening section (42): and the flow distribution array (82, 84) disposed upstream of the channel assemblies (51-66).
  2. 10
The flow control system (40) of claims 1 wherein the turning vane (51 A) includes a first substantially flat segment being disposed downstream of the arcuate segment (51K) and in the flow straightening section (42) to define a flow path in the flow straightening section (42).
