Certain embodiments of ATMs provide the heuristics for dispensing media at ATMs.
BACKGROUND
ATMs are widely used and provide various functions to enable electronic account holders to conduct self-service transactions with financial institutions such as banks, credit unions and the like.
ATMs offer several advantages, for example, they can be accessed at any time and can be installed in many places including in or near the establishments of financial institutions, as well as gas stations, shopping malls, airports, grocery stores, retail stores and the like. .
Different transactions can be carried out at an ATM including check withdrawals, money withdrawals, balance inquiries, deposits, cash transfer activities, payment, or account maintenance and the like.
A plastic card with a magnetic stripe or chip containing a unique card number can be inserted into an ATM slot and £

U1 may be provided with a personal identification number or other security token for the purpose of identifying and authenticating an account.
ATMs can dispense media (such as money) from one or more cartridges contained within the ATM. Normally, the banknote mix is dispensed according to a predefined template. Where a unique or non-standard mix of media is desired, more than one transaction, or indeed a teller-assisted transaction, may be required. There is a motivation for the ATM to serve more and different types of transactions in order to reduce the need for manual intervention and improve the personalization, transparency, usefulness and efficiency of the ATMs.

As used in this specification, the term expending
IMPI
MEXICAN INSTITUTE OF INDUSTRIAL PROPERTY expendio covers the distribution or provision of media. The format of the media can be physical (for example, money, coins, tokens, paper bills) or digital (for example, digital goods or coupons). Media are capable of being distributed in a mix.
The term mixture in this specification normally means two or more different media of the same kind (for example, two different denominations of paper money), or two or more media of different kinds (for example, one denomination of paper money and one denomination of currency). coins).
According to some examples, media can represent value. Furthermore, according to other examples, media may have money-like characteristics and may be amenable to ordering or division of value as with denominations of a coin. Although some of the disclosed examples relate to paper money being dispensed from one or more cartridges at an ATM, it will be apparent to an experienced reader that the disclosed systems and methods are suitable including coupons, loyalty, between money for media tickets, sell a wide range of non-monetary tokens, loyalty miles cards, securities, other financial instruments, virtual such as

To perform a self-service withdrawal operation, an electronic account holder can identify an amount for withdrawal at the ATM 100 using the terminal application.

The ATM 100 may maintain a memory or queue of mix adjustment parameters

In other examples, the heuristics may selectively discard some of the mix adjustment parameters 140 stored in the queue.
Heuristics may employ robust error detection and conflict resolution techniques to determine which tuning parameter 140 to discard.

The method begins at 3 05 and at 310, a self-service withdrawal operation is performed at the ATM 100 and an initial mix of media is displayed on the touch screen

Alternatively, touch screen 130 may receive user input including a touch (also referred to as a touch event) at a location on touch screen 130 at 320.
In this example, a tap is received at a location corresponding to a mix adjust parameter 140 with a value of

At 330, a different mix of media is selected for display on touch screen 130 unless an exception or conflict is detected at 335.
When a conflict is detected, such as, for example, a by parameter would zero out the $5 denomination for a $75 withdrawal, the ATM 100 provides error handling to reconcile the conflict. An example of error handling is applying a last-in, first-out heuristic that discards the oldest incompatible 140 mix tune parameter (discussed in detail later). Through the application of a heuristic according to the examples revealed, a third mix is selected for this operation, namely two denominations of $5, four denominations of $10 and one denomination of $50. Again, a touch detected at location 512 accepts this third mix.
In FIG.
8, a touch has been detected at 504-3 (mix adjustment parameter 140 of +1 associated with the $20 denomination).
Through the application of a heuristic according to the revealed examples, a fourth mix is selected and displayed for this operation, namely two denominations of $5, two denominations of $10, one denomination of $20 and one denomination of $50.
It will be appreciated that this touch event provides a mix setting parameter 140 not compatible with the £ parameter

Ü1 mix setting 140 above (to clear the $2 0 denomination) and therefore the last-in, first-out heuristic (acting as an exception error handling routine) causes the ATM 100 not to apply the parameter 140 Mix Adjust parameter and apply the current 140 Mix Adjust parameter instead. Once again, a touch detected at location 512 accepts this fourth mix.
Although the examples refer to a $100 withdrawal operation and simple $20 denomination adjustments, it will be appreciated that the application loaded on the ATM 100 is adapted to handle numerous adjustments with intelligent conflict resolution and robust error handling in accordance with techniques disclosed herein. Multiple currencies can be dispensed in a single session or multiple terminal application sessions.
In sensitive to other touch examples,

Other user interface controls may be provided to disable freezing of specific denominations meaning that the heuristics can be adapted to satisfy business rules, preferences or other constraints (eg £

not applying the heuristic based on the received first mix adjustment parameter and ATM, dispensing a fourth mix of media, the fourth mix responding to the repeated application of the first heuristic.
According to one example, the mix adjustment parameter includes an up/down value that updates the content of the second media mix corresponding to the up/down value.
According to a non-limiting example, the match may be a 1:1 ratio.
In an example, the method may include the steps of:
a user, authenticating accessing an account profile data record corresponding to the authenticated user stored in a user profile database, and entering first media mix data from a predetermined data field within the profile data record of account.
The heuristic can be an inline heuristic selected from one of the following options:
last in, first out, least frequently used, and least recently used.
Inline heuristics may include a queue of mix-tuning parameters, and the queue is held until an exception is caught.

the inline heuristics may select one of the mixtuning parameters to drop from the queue.
Media may include bills.
Notes can be selected from a large number of note denominations.
The media may include coins. Coins can be selected from a large number of coin denominations.
The means can be one or more of the following options:
stamps, coupons, tickets, tokens, gift cards, loyalty points, loyalty miles, securities, financial instruments, prescribed values of virtual money, digital goods, general merchandise or general services.
The ATM may include a large number of cartridges, each containing a large number of media, and the media may be dispensed from the large number of cartridges. In one example, the electronic device and the ATM are integral. In another example, the electronic device is a portable electronic device that previously organizes the sale in the
ATM.
