DEVICE FOR INJECTION OF A LIQUID PRODUCT WHICH

RESPECTIVE
TECHNICAL FIELD
The present invention relates to the general technical field of contrast product injection devices.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
The advancement of medicine has allowed the design of different analysis and control procedures for the state of patients. These procedures include analyzes performed after injection of a contrast product, for example for medical imaging, which also includes X-ray imaging, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and nuclear medicine.
Devices for injecting a liquid product as a contrast product into a patient are known, such as, for example, inline pump techniques, techniques known as syringe pumps or even bag injector techniques.
EP 0 676 214 describes an injection device that includes two movable housings in respective rotation. Each casing

it comprises a cavity covered with a soft membrane. Each cdibaSa1 it is supplied with motor hydraulic fluid by means of a hydraulic piston connected to said housings by means of flexible hydraulic supply elements.
An object of the present invention is to propose an improved injection device that includes two respective rotating half mobile housings.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
To this end, the invention proposes a device for the injection of a liquid product contained in a bag, where the device comprises a box consisting of two hinged half shells to allow the relative displacement of the half shells respectively between:
- an open position for bag placement and
- a closed position for the injection of the liquid product contained in the bag, notable because:
- one of the half shells comprises a bladder - called "active bladder" - deformable with variable volume under the action of a hydraulic power source that supplies said bladder with hydraulic fluid, and
- the other of the half shells comprises a deformable pad with constant volume - called a "passive pad".
MEXICAN INSTITUTE OF INDUSTRIAL PROPERTY
<img file="MX360269B_D0007.tif" />
The fact that the device understands lina aHiua bladder and a passive pad allow to reduce the blockage of the injection device because it is not necessary to provide flexible hydraulic feeding elements at the level of the two half-shells. This also makes it easier to manipulate the injection device because it is no longer necessary for the user to assist the movement of the flexible hydraulic feeding elements of the two half shells when carrying out the respective relative movements.
The fact that one of the half shells comprises a deformable passive pad with constant volume has numerous advantages over a device without a passive pad:
The fact that the passive pad is deformable ensures optimal contact of the pad on the liquid product bag. By "optimal contact" is meant a match of more than 80%, even more than 90%, between the surface of the passive pad and the surface of the bag that can come into reciprocal contact. The optimal nature of this contact ensures control of the injection parameters of the liquid product. Preferably, the passive pad is strongly deformable (that is, it has a hardness of less than 10 Shore A (the Shore hardness, expressed in Shore A or ShA, corresponds to a unit of measurement of the hardness of elastomers or of certain widely known plastic materials) by the specialist in the field and recognized by international standards ISO 868 and 7619, ASTM D 2240 and DIN 53505).
IMPI MEXICAN INSTITUTE OF INDUSTRIAL PROPERTY
<img file="MX360269B_D0008.tif" />
"strongly deformable" character of the pad allows a deformation of the passive pad to be induced to exert slight pressure on the container. In this way it is limited:
or the necessary deformation of the active bladder to induce the placement of the bag against the passive pad, and or the stresses to which the bag of liquid product is subjected.
In this way, indirectly, the risk of rupture of the membrane of the active bladder and / or the bag.
The fact that the deformation of the passive pad is with constant volume allows to estimate the deformation of the system. Indeed, in the case of a passive pad with variable volume (for example that includes a compressible gel), it would be necessary to increase the pressure inside the bag to guarantee the same level of contact of the passive pad on the bag of liquid product. . Such use of a passive pad with variable volume does not allow the injection device to operate in accordance with a law of deformation under the effect of pressure inside the bag. In this way, the ability to repeat the injection conditions would be difficult to ensure. On the other hand, the use of a passive pad with variable volume can alter the results of an air detection in the pressurization unit of the injection device or even prevent such detection.
In the case of an injection device devoid of
ΙΜΡΙ6
MEXICAN INSTITUTE 'faith OF THE V INDUSTRIAL PROPERTY x deformable passive pad with constant volume (for example, including a rigid counterform), the following problems arose:
- Premature wear of the active bladder,
- Impossibility of using the injection device for different sizes of liquid product bags,
- Risk of hatching of the liquid product bag at pressurization,
- Need to use a valve with a high opening threshold (that is, greater than 500 mbar) between the bag and the patient.
These problems are related to the difficulties that arise in ensuring that the bag is placed against the walls of the injection device. On the other hand, the quality of the placement of the bag against the walls of the injection device is three important to accurately control the parameters (quantity injected, flow, etc.) of the injection of liquid product.
Thus, in the case of an injection device that includes, for example, an active bladder on one of the half shells and a rigid plate on the other half shell, it is necessary for the active bladder to apply a significant force on the bag. to place its entire surface against the rigid plate. This induces the need to achieve a higher pressure in the bag to obtain the same level of performance as that obtained with the injection device according to the invention that includes a deformable passive pad with constant volume. For the
IMPIfé
INSTITUTO MEXICANO kS DE LA PROPIEDAD CV INDUSTRIAL therefore, the risk of stock market rupture increases in this type of device.
The following are some preferred and non-limiting aspects of the device according to the invention:
- each half carcass includes a cavity "to form" so as to form a cradle for the active bladder or the passive pad. This cradle can form an anti-extrusion element for the active bladder or the passive pad, for example if its depth is greater than the thickness of said passive pad. Indeed, when the pressure inside the injection device rises, the deformation of the passive pad, in particular, can create a play between the pieces of the device (mainly the two half shells): this play give rise to a risk of extrusion , in particular of the passive pad, which is reduced by the presence of a cradle as described above,
In a preferred embodiment, a half casing is thus obtained that includes a cavity in which the passive pad is located, which has a thickness less than the depth of said cavity. Thus an “anti-extrusion” ring is formed on the entire periphery of the junction of the two half-shells.
- the half carcass comprising the active bladder is fixed and the half carcass comprising the passive pad is movable in rotation,
- the active bladder comprises two superimposed membranes fixed to their peripheries "to obtain" in order to obtain a watertight volume destined to receive hydraulic fluid,

- the membrane intended to come into contact with the half shell has a higher rigidity than the other membrane intended to come into contact with the bag,
- the shore hardness of the membrane intended to come into contact with the half shell is between 70 and 90 shore A and the shore hardness of the other membrane is between 20 and 50 shore A,
- the bladder further comprises a rigid reinforcing annular body extending at the periphery of the bladder membranes,
- the passive pad comprises a thick deformable layer (241) of shore hardness less than 10 shore A,
- the passive pad further comprises a rigid layer (242) superimposed on the thick layer, where the rigid layer is intended to come into contact with the half shell,
- the passive pad comprises a heating element located between the rigid layer and the thick deformable layer,
- the passive pad further comprises a rigid support structure that extends on the periphery of the deformable thick layer, mainly over the entire thickness of the thick layer and that is an anti-extrusion element. Therefore, this rigid support structure performs an "anti-extrusion" ring function,

- the compartment further comprises a stop adapted to prevent movement of the connection adapter in a direction parallel to a longitudinal axis of the compartment when the connection adapter is in position in the compartment,
- the device further comprises a control unit programmed to:
o receive information on the nature of the liquid product contained in the bag, or determine a reference outlet flow rate based on said information on the nature of the product contained in the bag, or estimate the output flow rate of the injection device, or compare the reference output flow to the estimated output flow, or issue an alarm if the difference between the estimated output flow and the reference output flow is greater than a threshold value.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
The invention is described in greater detail below with reference to the figures. In these figures, the equivalent elements have the same numerical references.
Referring to Figure 1, an example of a bag injector type injection device is illustrated. The device comprises a pressurization unit 2 and a control unit 3.
The injection device makes it possible to inject a liquid product contained in a bag 4 (see Figures 2 and 3).
Bag
Referring to Figures 2 and 3, the medical bag 4 includes two overlapping sheets 41, 42 of suitable length and width as well as one (or more) access members 43.
The sheets 41, 42 are made of several layers of thin films laminated in flexible or soft, possibly transparent or translucent materials such as polymeric materials comprising polyethylene, polypropylene and preferably thermoplastic materials.
The overlapping sheets 41, 42 are preferably plates welded together to form a bag 4. The overlapping sheets 41,42 are sealed at their lateral peripheries to form a bag 4 of general rectangular external appearance. When the medical bag 4 is full or partially full, it has the shape of a pad.
IMPI
MEXICAN INSTITUTE OF INDUSTRIAL PROPERTY
<img file="MX360269B_D0010.tif" />
An access member 43 is included at the level of the top of the bag 4. Access member 43 is sealed between the overlapping sheets
41, 42. This access member 43 is a tube and may comprise at its distal end a connection adapter 44 for coupling the bag to a pipe connected to the patient.
Another access member 43 may be included in the bag. In this case:
- the first access member - called the front access member - is intended to be connected to a source that contains the liquid product to be injected into the patient to allow filling of the bag,
- the second access member - called the rear access member - is intended to be connected to a pipeline connected to the patient (by means of various elements such as a pipeline and a catheter or a hypodermic / intravenous needle) for the injection of the liquid product to the patient.
Advantageously, a threshold check valve can be located between the rear access member and the tubing connected to the patient. The check valve with threshold is adapted to allow the passage of the liquid from the front to the bottom as represented by arrow F when a certain pressure of the flowing fluid is reached, while preventing the passage of the medical liquid in reverse, from behind forward, that is to say in the opposite direction to that illustrated by arrow F.
IMPIf *
MEXICAN INSTITUTE F? OF THE VJ INDUSTRIAL PROPERTY
Another check valve can be located between the front access member and the source to allow liquid product to pass only from the source into the bag. For example, a valve system can be provided as described in EP 0 648 513.
When the bag comprises a single access member 43, the access member performs both of the aforementioned functions, namely filling and injection.
Half shells
The pressurization unit 2 comprises a rigid enclosure composed of two half shells 21, 22 hinged around a rotation axis A-A 'to allow relative displacement of the half shells relative to each other. These two half shells 21, 22 are adapted to move relative to one another between:
- an open position (figure 4) for the placement of the bag and
- a closed position (figure 5) for the injection of the liquid product contained in the bag.
Preferably one of the half housings 21 is fixed and the other 22 is movable in rotation along the axis A-A '.
Advantageously, the axis of rotation A-A 'may be offset relative to the center of gravity G of the movable half-shell. This allows automatic opening of the movable half housing 22 by

INDUSTRIAL severity to limit the number of manipulations necessary by the user. Preferably, the axis of rotation A-A 'is as far away from the bag as possible to limit the risk of rubbing during the opening of the device.
Preferably, the half shells 21, 22 are not motorized in order to avoid the risks of pinching the user. Springs (not shown) can be provided between the two half casings to assist the user in closing the mobile door by compensating for the weight of the mobile half casing. These springs can function as shock absorbers to slow down the fall of the movable half casing 22, a fall that could be dangerous for the user.
Each half shell includes a cavity to form a cradle.
In the embodiment illustrated in Figure 6, each half casing 21, 22 includes a flat rear face 211, a front face and 15 four lateral faces 212 to 215 which extend on the periphery of the rear face 211, perpendicularly this. The front face is intended to come into contact with a bag. The front face can have a concave shape to define the cavity that forms the cradle. As a variant, one or each half casing may include a single concave wall that defines the cavity that forms the cradle.
The cavity of one of the half shells - for example the fixed half shell 21 - is intended to receive a bladder 23 illustrated in Figures 7 and 8. The bladder 23 is made up of at least two membranes 231, 232 μ ΙΜΡΙ6
MEXICAN INSTITUTE OF INDUSTRIAL PROPERTY> welded in the periphery. These welded membranes 231, 232 form a space intended to receive a motor fluid that causes a variation in the volume of the bladder 23 in order to induce a deformation thereof. The feeding of the bladder 23 in motor fluid is carried out by means of a hydraulic cylinder M connected to the bladder 23 by means of flexible hydraulic feeding elements 233.
The cavity of the other of the half casings - for example, the rotating half mobile casing 22 - is intended to receive a deformable cushion pad 24 with constant volume. This pad 24 is called a passive pad because it is not powered by motor fluid. Its deformation is linked to the forces applied to it. The fact that the movable half casing 22 is adapted to receive a passive pad 24 allows to avoid the presence of a hydraulic supply (for the passage of the motor fluid) in the movable half casing. This makes it possible to reduce the blockage of the injection device because it is not necessary to provide an outlet for the flexible hydraulic supply elements 233 to be able to move with the movable half casing 22. This also makes it easier to manipulate the injection device because the user no longer needs to assist in moving the flexible hydraulic supply elements.
The half shells 21, 22 can be, for example, aluminum or composite material with fiberglass or carbon fiber.
Advantageously, the half shells 21, 22 can
IMPI
INSTITUTO MEXICANO DELAEROWtDAO INDUSTRIAL open in two positions:
- a first preparation position in which the two half shells form an angle between 10 ° and 45 ° respectively; this first opening position allows the insertion of a bag into the injection device,
- a second holding position in which the two half shells form an angle comprised between 85 and 95 ° respectively, and preferably equal to 90 °; This second opening position allows cleaning of the injection device.
Bladder
One of the membranes 232 of the bladder 23 - called the bottom membrane - is intended to be positioned in front of the front face of the half shell.
Preferably, the shape of the bottom membrane 232 is complementary to the shape of the front face of the half shell. For example, in one embodiment the bottom membrane 232 and the front face are teardrop shaped (see Figure 9). This makes it possible to limit the amount of motor fluid that is introduced into (respectively withdrawn from) the bladder 23 to increase (respectively decrease) its volume. In this way the blocking of the injection device is limited and the reaction capacity of the device is improved at the determined filling speed.
The other membrane 231 - called the front membrane - is
IMPI ís
INSTITUTO MEXICANO Vs * DE LA PROPIEDAD V INDUSTRIAL V, destined to be located in front of the stock market 4.
The stiffness of the bottom membrane 232 may be greater than the stiffness of the front membrane 231. For example:
- the front membrane 231 can be soft and have a shore hardness of the order of 20 to 50 shore A (unit recognized mainly by ISO 868 and 7619, ASTM D 2240 and DIN 53505 standards),
- the bottom membrane 232 can be semi-rigid and have a shore hardness between 70 and 90 shore A.
The fact that the bottom membrane 232 has a higher stiffness than the front membrane 231 allows:
obtaining a good covering of the bottom membrane 232 against the bottom wall 211 of the half shell even at low pressure,
- guarantee that when removing the motor fluid in the bladder 23, it is the front wall 231 of the bladder 23 that is deformed.
The bladder 23 also comprises an opening 234 - for example in the bottom membrane 232 - for the passage of the motor fluid. The introduction (respectively withdrawal) of motor fluid in (respectively of) the bladder 23 induces a variation (increase or decrease) in its volume, which causes its deformation.
Finally, the bladder 23 comprises a supporting skeleton 236 on its periphery to stiffen the bladder in order to maintain its shape - according to plane P, a plane that passes through the contact areas between the two half shells 21, 22 - mainly at the time of withdrawing fluid

engine. This support skeleton is, for example, metallic.
The bladder may also comprise a reinforcing body 235 at the periphery of the membranes of the bladder 23. This reinforcing body 233 is, for example, of textile material. The presence of a reinforcing body 233 at the periphery of the membranes of the bladder 23 makes it possible to avoid the formation of a hernia (that is, a staff) between the two half-shells 21, 22 during the introduction of motor fluid into the bladder when the half shells are in the open position.
Pad
Referring to Figures 10 and 11, the passive pad 24 comprises a thick, soft layer 241. This thick layer 241 is preferably formed of a material of zero shore A hardness as a gel, and optionally of strong thermal conductivity.
The material that forms the thick layer 241 is, for example, silicone or polyurethane.
Thick layer 241 may be coated with a thin non-stick layer to limit friction between the bag and passive pad 24. This thin layer is, for example, a layer of polyurethane paint or a cotton or Lycra® envelope.
The passive pad 24 may comprise a rigid rear face 242 intended to be located opposite the front face of the half shell. In this case, the rigid rear face 242 has a conjugated shape in
<img file="MX360269B_D0012.tif" />
IMPI
MEXICAN INSTITUTE OF INDUSTRIAL PROPERTY front face shape of the half shell. The presence of one. face, rigid back 242 on the pad 24 allows to facilitate its manipulation and its fixation on the mobile half casing.
The passive pad 24 may also comprise one or more heating elements 243 composed of, for example, an insulating layer and a resistant layer, or any type of heating element known to the person skilled in the art. The presence of a heating element 243 allows the liquid product contained in the bag to be maintained at a desired temperature prior to injection into the patient.
Preferably, the heating element 243 is located between the rigid rear face 242 and the soft thick layer 241. Indeed, since:
the heating element is not extensible, and the thick layer is intended to be deformed, it is preferable to locate the heating element between the rigid rear face 242 and the soft thick layer 241 to limit the risks of deterioration thereof.

One 401 of the parts of this compartment is intended to receive the connection adapter of the access member 43 of the bag 4, or any type of coupling element located at the distal end of the access member 43. The other 402 of the parts This compartment is intended to ensure the locking in position of the connection adapter when the device is in the closed position.
The part of the compartment intended to receive the connection adapter will be called the "receiving portion" in the rest of the present description.
The receiving portion 401 comprises a side wall 403 that preferably has a symmetry of revolution. This ensures a good location of the bag in the gravity pressurization unit without requiring particular attention from the user at the time of placement. The side wall of the receiving portion has, for example, the shape of a cone (like a funnel) or even of a cylinder.
The side wall of the receiving portion 401 further has a longitudinal slot 404 which forms the guide for the passage of the end of a pipe coupled to the access member. The guide and the shape of the side wall are adapted to allow gravity sliding of the connection adapter towards the bottom 405 of the receiving portion. This allows to ensure a good positioning of the pipeline along the injection device.
Preferably, the receiving portion 401 also comprises a stop 406 adapted to prevent movement of the connection adapter. 20 IMPI
MEXICAN INSTITUTE OF INDUSTRIAL PROPERTY when the connection adapter is in position in the receiving portion. More precisely, the stopper allows to prevent an adaptation movement towards the top 407 of the receiving portion when the connection adapter is in position at the bottom of the receiving portion. The stop, for example, is projecting towards the Interior of the compartment perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the receiving portion.
The part of the compartment intended to secure the locking in position of the connection adapter may comprise a finger that goes outwards and is intended to be placed in the longitudinal slit when the two half shells are in the closed position. This ensures a good placement of the pipe in the longitudinal slit.
An ampoule catcher can be included at the level of this longitudinal slot to allow detection of ampoules in the tubing connected to the patient. The bubble catcher can be used at the time of the injection phase of liquid product to the patient to avoid the risks associated with the injection of air into the patient. This bubble catcher can also be used during the filling phases of the bag contained in the injector, mainly to facilitate the purging phases, as will be described in greater detail below.
Connection system for filling
The bag injector type injection device described above can be used with a connection assembly that

IMPI Mexican institute DE LA PRCHEOAD INDUSTRIAL allows the injection and filling of the bag for contrast product. In the area of injection of a liquid product - such as the contrast product - to a patient, the injection phase is preceded by a filling phase in the course of which the liquid product is transferred from an initial container such as a bottle - towards an empty bag.
There are devices that allow filling of an empty bag from an initial container. A disadvantage of these devices is that they are Independent of the injector, which requires manipulation by the user and reduces ascepsia.
Referring to Figure 12, a connection assembly is illustrated that allows an integration of a filling device into a bag injector.
The connection assembly comprises a front connection line 301 and a rear connection line 302. The front and rear lines are connected at one end to a bag contained in the injector. This union between the bag and the front and rear lines is obtained using a connect 303 of three Y-connect type inputs. The other ends of the front and rear lines are respectively connected to:
- a source of liquid product 304 for the front line, and
- one patient (not shown) for the rear line.
The function of the front line is to allow the transfer of the liquid product from an Initial source to the bag at the time of a filling phase of the bag.

The front line may comprise a bubble collector 305 like a dropper - between the source and the bag. This bubble collector allows to eliminate the air between the source and the bag to be filled.
The front line may also comprise a pumping interface 306 between the bubble trap and the bag. This pumping interface is, for example, a soft tube whose diameter, thickness and elasticity allow better coupling with a pumping unit such as a peristaltic pump.
The front line may also comprise a non-return valve 307 between the pump interface and the bag. This non-return valve allows the passage of liquid in a single direction, that is, from the source to the bag.
The function of the rear line is to allow the transfer of liquid between the bag and the patient at the time of an injection phase.
The rear line may comprise a non-return valve 308 between the bag and the patient. This non-return valve allows the passage of liquid in a single direction, that is, from the bag to the patient. Advantageously, the check valve can have a high opening threshold (that is, greater than 500 mbar). This allows to avoid the risks of transfer of liquid product directly to the patient (without going through the bag) at the time of a filling phase, mainly accelerated. This also allows a pressurization of the soft bag that

MEXICAN INSTITUTE OF INDUSTRIAL PROPERTY guarantees the absence of air between the bag and the injector before starting the ----...— transfer of liquid to the rear line.
The back line can be attached to the patient by a catheter.
The connection assembly described above allows rapid transfers from a primary fluid container to a soft bag while limiting the risks of contamination by the user.
The reader will understand that numerous modifications can be made without departing substantially from the disclosure and benefits described herein.
For example, in the case of a bag injector type pressurization unit, the injection device may comprise two pairs of half-shell that allow the successive or simultaneous injection of different injectable liquid products.
Also, the connection assembly illustrated in Figure 12 was presented with reference to the bag injector according to the invention. The skilled person will appreciate that this connection assembly can be used with another type of prior art bag injector, or other types of injector such as an injector called a "syringe pump".
Accordingly, all such modifications are intended to be included within the scope of the appended claims.
