The array shown in Figure 1 is similar to the arrays from the previous reference and optionally, can have the same or similar parameters as described below.
The arrangement illustrated in 667 'is arranged for the improved continuous flow of urine in a catheterized patient and to prevent urinary tract infections in the patient. The configuration generally comprises a catheter urine collection bag coupling pipe with a hydrophobic internal surface that is preferably polished, having an internal diameter of four to six millimeters, the urine collection bag coupling pipe is arranged to provide a continuous negative fluid pressure of less than 50 cm equivalent of water as a result of a meniscus that forms at the beginning of the flow of

IMPI urinates from the patient's bladder, as it turns out; The Narrowness of the urine collection bag coupling pipe and the repulsion of urine from the hydrophobic surfaces of the urine collection bag coupling pipe, therefore during operation, the urine collection bag coupling pipe always is full of urine. As a result, natural negative pressure builds up in the urine collection bag coupling line, which serves to continuously suck urine out of the bladder in a closed system, keeping the bladder empty resulting in a constant flow which does not It allows air gaps and bacteria accumulation in the urine collection bag coupling line in the adjacent area of the bladder.
Because continuous negative pressure means the urine collection bag coupling line is always full of urine, medical personnel may have difficulty replacing the urine bag when it is full. Without wishing to be limited in any way, valve 120 provides a solution to this problem and allows the replacement of a urine bag, such as a urine collection bag 134, or any other secreted fluid collected in a clean and sterile manner. . When the collection bag 134 with the coupling tubing to the urine collection bag 130 is detached from the valve 120, the valve 120 is closed and flow through the valve 120 is not possible. Furthermore, during use, valve 120 avoids direct human contact with urine or other ecologically hazardous materials as there is no need to touch any other part other than the coupling pouch to urine collection bag 130 bag coupling

134 collection bag when the collection bag 134 is replaced.
Reference is now made to Figure 3 which is an exploded, schematic view illustration showing valve 300 in accordance with variations of the present invention. Valve 300 generally engages three components: a valve stem 310, a valve body 330, and a valve nozzle 340.
Preferably, valve stem 310 comprises an elongated, hollow cylindrical portion; a valve stem cylinder 312 coupled to the top 314 of the wider, solid valve stem. Preferably, valve stem cylinder 312 has a tapered surface 316. The valve stem 310 further preferably includes one or more stem inlet ports 318 which are located below the top of valve stem 314, and a valve stem 320 outlet. The conical surface 316 may optionally be a frustoconical surface.
Valve body 330 comprises a valve inlet chamber 332 and a central hole 334. Preferably, inlet chamber 332 is formed and is sized so that its outlet dimensions are slightly smaller than the internal dimensions of a drip chamber in a urinary catheter kit, such as drip chamber 110, described in Figure 1 above, or optionally, any other urine collection bag coupling tubing or coupling mechanism in applications where valve 300 is employed to allow firm coupling of valve body 330 with drip chamber, bag coupling tubing

INDUSTRIAL urine collection or coupling. This ^^^ phmien ^ qq riatalla later.
Preferably, the central hole 334 is cylindrical and hollow with an internal diameter slightly larger than the external diameter of valve stem cylinder 312. The inner surface 336 of the central hole 334 preferably has a conical or frusto-conical shape, preferably formed to coincide with the conical or frusto-conical surface 316 on the external surface of the rod cylinder 312. These dimensions preferably allow insertion of the valve stem 310 into the valve body 312 so that the conical surface 316 of the stem cylinder 312 snaps against the conical inner surface 336 of the center bore 334.
Preferably, valve mouthpiece 340 comprises a coupling portion 342 of urine collection bag coupling tubing, a stem insert portion 344 and a valve outlet port 346. The urine collection bag coupling pipe coupling portion 342 is preferably formed and tapered and dimensioned so that its external dimensions are the same or slightly larger than the Internal dimensions of a bag coupling pipe. coupling urine collector in a urinary catheter kit, such as the coupling urine collection bag coupling line 130 described below or optionally any other urine collection bag coupling line or coupling mechanism in applications where valve 300 is employed to allow hermetic coupling of the valve with the pipe

coupling to urine collection bag coupling, or other coupling urine bag coupling pipe or coupling.
Preferably, the Stem Insert portion 344 is appropriately dimensioned so that its outer diameter is slightly smaller than the valve stem outlet 310. This allows the valve tip 340 stem Insert 344 to mate with the stem outlet 310, with the optional use of adhesive or ultrasonic welding, to permanently secure it after the Insertion.
Reference is now made to Figures 4 and 5 illustrating valve 30 0 in a closed and open position respectively, in accordance with variations of the invention.
Figure 4 is a schematic, cross-sectional view of valve 300 of Figure 3, in a closed position, in accordance with variations of the present invention.
As shown, the assembled valve preferably includes valve stem 310 inserted into valve body 330. Valve stem outlet 310 mates with stem insert 344 of valve nozzle 340. The assembled valve stem and valve nozzle can be moved up and down within the valve body.
When valve 300 is in a closed position, inlet port 318 is sealed against inner surface 336 of center hole 334. The conical surface 316 of valve stem 310 is pressed against the conical inner surface 336 of center hole 334, creating a light interference fit that will keep the valve closed. The conical shape

INDUSTRIAL interference fit allows the fit to break relatively easily. When the valve is in a closed position, there is a gap 410 between the valve body 330 and the urine collection bag coupling tubing insert portion 342 of the valve nozzle 340.
Figure 5 is a schematic cross-sectional view showing valve 300 of Figure 3, in an open position, in accordance with variations of the present invention. When valve 300 is in an open position, the assembled valve stem 310 and valve nozzle 340 together move upward closing space 410. Inlet port 318 is not blocked by inner surface 336 of center hole 334.
Reference is now made to Figures 6, 7, and 8 which respectively illustrate the fluid flow through valve 300 in an open position, valve 300 pulled in the closed position, preventing fluid flow, and fluid flow through valve 300 driven into the open position, in accordance with variations of the invention.
As shown, valve inlet chamber 332 is preferably coupled with a fluid source, which optionally may include drip chamber 110 of the catheter assembly 100 of Figure 1 or any other fluid source depending of the application in which the valve is used. Coupling is accomplished by sliding the fluid source outlet coupling 610 onto the outer surface of valve inlet chamber 332. As described before,

the size and shape of the inlet chamber 332 preferably, comCiCre with the outlet coupling 610 during use.
Preferably, valve outlet 300 is coupled to the fluid flow destination, which optionally may include the urine collection bag coupling tubing 130 from the catheter assembly 100 of Figure 1 or any other fluid destination depending on the application in which the valve is used. Coupling is accomplished by sliding the fluid destination coupling urine bag coupling line 620 over the outer surface of the urine collection bag coupling line coupling port 342 and the central hole 334. As described above, the size and shape of the coupling port 342 preferably matches the coupling pipe coupling 620 to urine collection bag during use. The conical shape of preferred coupling port 342 facilitates the process of deforming the coupling tubing to urine collection bag
620 when it slides on the valve.
FIG. 6 is a schematic, cross-sectional view showing valve 300 of FIG. 3, in an open position, in accordance with variations of the present invention. When valve 300 is in an open position, fluid 510 that has accumulated in valve inlet chamber 332 of valve body 330 flows through inlet port 318 and valve stem 310 stem cylinder 312, before exiting the valve through the outlet port 346 of the valve nozzle 340. The urine collection bag coupling tubing 620 holds valve 300 in one

open position holding the outer surface of the central hole 334 and the outer surface 340 of the valve nozzle.
Figure 7 is a schematic, cross-sectional view showing valve 300 of Figure 3, pulled into the closed position, in accordance with variations of the present invention. While the urine collection bag coupling line 620 is pulled out of the valve, the valve nozzle 340 is pulled downward due to friction against the urine collection bag coupling line coupling portion 342. Valve stem 310, which mates with valve nozzle 340, is also pulled downward, causing stem inlet ports 318 to be sealed against the inner surface 336 of center hole 334 and prevent further flow 510 of fluids accumulated in inlet chamber 332 through the valve. The conical surface 316 of the valve stem 310 is pressed against the conical inner surface 336 of the central bore 334, which is a slight interference fit that keeps the valve closed.
FIG. 8 is a schematic, cross-sectional view showing valve 300 of FIG. 3, driven into the open position, in accordance with variations of the present invention. When a coupling urine bag coupling pipe 620 is forced onto valve 300, by pushing it onto the conical surface of coupling portion 342 of valve mouthpiece 340, the valve mouthpiece is driven upward. Valve stem 310 that mates with valve nozzle 340 also drives upward, breaking the light interference fit between the conical surface 316 of the

IMPI valve stem 310 and inner surface 336-géneither? ri? gficin central. The stem inlet ports 318 are pushed out of the central hole 334 allowing the fluid 510 accumulated in the inlet chamber 332 to again enter the inlet ports 318 and the valve stem 310 stem cylinder, before exiting the valve through the outlet port 346 of the valve nozzle 340. Urine collection bag coupling tubing 620 holds valve 300 in an open position by clamping the outer surface of center hole 334 and the outer surface of valve nozzle 340.
The valve of the present invention aims to allow the replacement of a urine bag or any other collected secreted fluid in a clean and sterilized manner. When the urine collection bag coupling line is removed from the valve of the invention, the valve closes and fluid flow through the valve is not possible. In addition, during use, the valve prevents direct human contact with urine or other biohazard materials as there is no need to touch any part other than the external 620 urine collection bag coupling line of the collection bag when replace it.
No mechanism is otherwise Involved to open or close the valve other than sliding the coupling tubing to the coupling urine collection bag 620 in and out, making the provided mechanism a simple, inexpensive, and reliable mechanism. Also, no special accessory or finish is required to create the Interference fit as provided by the matching surfaces.
