ONLINE SOCIAL NETWORKS
Field of the invention
This description relates in general to social graphics and to conducting searches for objects within a social media environment or related environments, in particular, with a method implemented by computation.
Background of the invention
A social networking system, which may include a social networking website, may allow its users (such as individuals or organizations) to interact with it or with others through it. The social media system with user input can create and store in the social media system a user profile associated with the user. The user's profile may include demographic information, communication channel information, and information about the user's personal interests. The social media system with user input can also create and store a record of the user's relationships with other users of the social media system, as well as provide services (for example, wallpapers, photo sharing, event organization, messaging , games or advertisements) to facilitate social interaction between them or between other users.
The social networking system may send content or messages related to its services over one or more networks to another device iNJTmrrc mbucanv οε La riGRNDAi <INDUSTRIAL mobile or computer user. The user may also install software applications on the user's computer or mobile device to access the user's user profile and other data within the social media system. The social networking system can generate a custom group of content objects to display to the user, such as a news feed of aggregated stories from other users connected with the user.
The social relations of social-graphical analysis views in terms of network theory consist of nodes and edges. The nodes represent the individual actors within the networks and the edges represent the relationships between the actors. The resulting graphics-based structures are very complex. There can be many types of nodes and many types of edges to connect the nodes. In its simplest form, a social graph is a map of all the relevant edges between all the nodes to be studied.
A mobile computer device - such as a smartphone, tablet computer, or laptop - may include functionality to determine your location, direction, or orientation, such as a GPS receiver, compass, or gyroscope. Such a device may also include functionality for wireless communication, such as BLUETOOTH communication, near field communication (NFC) or infrared communication (IR) or communication with wireless local area networks (WLAN) or a cell phone network. . Such a device can also include one or more cameras, scanners, touch screens, microphones, or speakers. Mobile computer devices

they can also run software applications, such as games. web browsers or social media applications. With social networking applications, users can connect, communicate and share information with other users on their social networks.
Brief description of the invention
In particular modalities, the social network system can generate structured queries that include references for particular social-graphic elements. These structured queries can be generated, for example, in response to a user-supplied text query, or they can be generated by skip queries. By providing suggested structured queries to a user's text query, the social media system can provide a very useful way for users of an online social network to search for the elements represented in the social graph based on their social graphical attributes and their relationship with various social-graphic elements.
In particular embodiments, a card stack can be a visual module that indicates the applications or content of an application that are to be executed on a computing device. The card stack may have a card that is analogous to a launcher, which displays all the applications installed on the computing device. In particular modalities, the user can have access to the card that corresponds to the launcher by making a gesture, such as, for example, sweeping from top to bottom or pressing the "start" button of the computing device. Applications run on the device
IMPI computation or application content (eg, the user's profile page on a social network or a tab of a web browser) can be displayed as the card stacked on the card launcher. In particular embodiments, the cards in the card stack can be sorted chronologically with the most recently executed applications highest in the card stack. Each card can be accessed by sweeping up on an exposed edge of the card or by pulling down on the exposed edge of the card, depending on how the cards are stacked on the screen.
In particular modalities, the social media system can generate “cards with recommended queries and query filters that use signals that provide clues to the interests, preferences or tastes of a given user. The idea is to generate cards that will be of interest to the user and that will cause the user to become interested in or otherwise explore the social media system or other systems (for example, systems associated with individual advertisers or with other third-party systems ). This is particularly useful in the mobile context (e.g. bored users who want to be on mobile FB and browse cards). Each card can represent a particular domain (places, people, photos, etc.) with a recommended query associated with the card. One or more query filters can be applied on a card's recommended query. For example, a place card may have the filter options (location) (type) (subtype) (hours), which can be selected as ("Palo Alto") ("restaurants") ("Chinese cuisine") ("open now"). Some of the filters can be references for entities
DE LA INDUSTRIAL MOFiEDAD INDUSTRIAL social-graphic (for example, as structured queries of objects within or without the social network) and some filters can be with respect to particular metadata or attributes of objects.
In particular modalities, the social network system can classify "cards" based on these particular domains or filters associated with the cards. The social network may provide a user interface comprising one or more cards classified in such a way that is appropriate for each user. The idea is to classify cards, so that the most interesting cards will be presented to the user, which causes the user to become interested and then explore the social network. Each card can represent a particular domain (eg places, people, photos, etc.) with a recommended query (eg graphics search query) and one or more filters to modify the query. It should be noted that the cards can be presented in any appropriate form, including notifications, news stories, suggested null status queries, in a separate application, on a customer system home screen, or in another appropriate form.
In particular modalities, the social network system can group the "auxiliary cards" based on the affinity of the user for particular domains or filters associated with the cards. Each card can represent a particular domain (places, people, photos, etc.) with a recommended query (for example, a Graphics Search query) and one or more filters to modify the query. The system can modify the filters on the card based on the inputs / actions of the
<img file="MX349472B_D0007.tif" />
user. In other words, the user can browse through the one — MI Λ - · - --------- cards to view the cards with different filters. For example, sweeping a card can reveal options to apply additional filters or it can display cards with variations of a recommended query on the previous card. The system can group cards in a way that is personalized for each user by determining card-to-card affinity and then grouping cards based on this determined affinity. The goal is to group cards of interest to the user in a way that encourages the user to take an interest in or explore the social network. By grouping cards that are related to each other, the user can be presented with a more pleasant card browsing experience.
The modalities described above are only exemplary and their scope is not limited. The particular modalities can include all, some or none of the components, elements, characteristics, functions, operations or stages of the previously described modalities.
The modalities according to the invention are described in particular in the appended claims directed to a method, to a storage medium and to a system, wherein any characteristic mentioned in a claim category, for example method, can be claimed in any another category of claim, eg system.

Figure 2 illustrates an exemplary social graph 200. In particular embodiments, the social network system 160 may store one or more social charts 200 in one or more data stores. In particular embodiments, the social graph 200 may include multiple nodes - which may include multiple user nodes 202 or multiple concept nodes 204 - and multiple edges 206 connecting the nodes. The exemplary social graph 200 illustrated in Figure 2 is shown for didactic purposes in a two-dimensional visual map representation. In particular embodiments, social media system 160, customer system 130, or other third party system 170 may have access to social graph 200 and related social graph information for appropriate applications. The nodes and edges of the social graph 200 can be stored as a data object, for example, in a data store (such as a social graph database). Such data storage may include one or more search or query indices of the nodes or edges of the social graph 200.
In particular embodiments, the node 202 of the user may correspond to a user of the system 160 of social networks. As an example and not intended to limit, the user can be a person (human), an entity (for example, a company, business or third party application) or a group (for example, of people or entities) that interacts or communicates with or on the 160 social media system. In particular embodiments, when the user registers an account in the social network system 160, the social network system 160 can create a user node 202 corresponding to the user and store the user node 202 in one or more data stores. The users and user nodes 202 described herein, where appropriate, may refer to registered users and user nodes 202 associated with registered users. In addition or as an alternative, the users and user nodes 202 described herein, where appropriate, may refer to users who have not been

registered with the 160 social media system. In particular embodiments, user node 202 can be associated with information provided by the user or information gathered by different systems, including social network system 160. As an example and without any intention of limiting, the user can provide their name, their profile image, contact information, date of birth, gender, marital status, family status, employment, educational background, preferences, interests or other demographic information. In particular embodiments, the user node 202 can be associated with one or more data objects corresponding to the information associated with the user. In particular embodiments, the user node 202 may correspond to one or more pages.
In particular embodiments, the concept node 204 may correspond to a concept. As an example and not intended to limit, the concept may correspond to a place (such as, for example, a theater, a restaurant, a monument or city), a website (such as, for example, a website associated with the social media system 160 or a third party website associated with a network application server); an entity (such as a person, business, group, sports team, or celebrity), a resource (such as, for example, an audio file, a video file, a digital photo, a text, a structured document or application) that can be located within the social media system 160 or on an external server, such as a network application server, real or intellectual property (such as for example, a sculpture, a painting, a movie, a game, a song, an idea, a photograph or a written work); a game, a
INSTITUTO MU ICANÜ OE lAFOriEDAI 'INDUSTRIAL activity, an idea or theory, another appropriate concept or two or more of such concepts. A concept node 204 may be associated with user-supplied concept information or information gathered by various systems, including social media system 160. As an example and not intended to limit, the information of a concept may include the name or a title, one or more images (for example, an image of the cover page of a book), the location (for example, the address or geographic location), a website (which may be associated with the URL), contact information (for example, phone number or email address), other appropriate concept information, or any combination of such information. In particular embodiments, the concept node 204 may be associated with one or more data objects corresponding to the information associated with the concept node 204. In particular embodiments, the concept node 204 may correspond to one or more pages.
In particular embodiments, the node in the social graph 200 may represent or may be represented by a page (which may be referred to as a "profile page"). Profile pages can be hosted or can have access to social media system 160. The profile pages may also be hosted on the third party web sites associated with the third party server 170. As an example and without the purpose of limitation, the profile page that corresponds to a particular external site page may be the particular external network page and the profile page may correspond to a node 204

OE LA flOPISDAB V— ± 2aTJa INDUSTRIAL of particular concept. Profile pages can be viewed by everyone or by a selected subset of other users. As an example and not intended to limit, the user node 202 may have a corresponding user profile page, where the corresponding user can add content, take statements, or otherwise express himself. As another example and without the purpose of limiting, the concept node 204 may have a corresponding concept profile page where one or more users can add content, make statements, or express themselves, in particular, regarding the concept corresponding to node 204. concept.
In particular embodiments, concept node 204 may represent a third party web page or resource hosted by third party system 170. The third party web page or resource may include, among other elements, content, a selected icon or other icon, another interactive object (which can be implemented for example in JavaScript, AJAX or PHP code), the which represents an action or activity. As an example and not intended to limit, the third party website may include a selectable icon such as "like", "post", "eat", "recommended", or other appropriate action or activity. The user viewing the third party's web page can take an action by selecting one of the icons (eg, "eat"), which causes the customer's system 130 to send the social media system 160 a message indicating user action. In response to the message, the social media system 160 may create a border (e.g., a

CELA BMDUST! U The "eat" edge) between the user node 202 corresponding to the user and a concept node 204 corresponding to the third party web page or resource and the storage edge 206 in one or more data stores .
In particular embodiments, a pair of nodes in the social graph 200 may be connected to each other by one or more edges 206. An edge 206 connecting a pair of nodes may represent the relationship between the pair of nodes. In particular embodiments, edge 206 may include or represent one or more data objects or attributes corresponding to the relationship between the pair of nodes. As an example and without any intention of limiting, a first user may indicate that a second user is a "friend" of the first user. In response to this prompt, the social media system 160 may send a "friend request" to the second user. When the second user confirms the "friend request", the social media system 160 can create an edge 206 that connects the node 202 of the first user's user with the node 202 of the second user's user in the social graph 200 and stores the edge 206 as social-graphic information in one or more data stores 24. In the example of Figure 2, the social graph 200 includes a border 206 that indicates the friendship relationship between the nodes 202 of the user of the user "A" and the user "B and a border that indicates the friendship relationship between the nodes. 202 of the user of user "C" and user "B". Although this invention describes or illustrates particular edges 206 with particular attributes, which connect to particular user nodes 202, this invention contemplates any appropriate edge 206 with any appropriate attribute that

29 IMPI
INSTITUTO MEXICANO DE LA mohedal industrial connects the 202 nodes of the user. As an example and without the purpose of limiting, a border 206 can represent a friendship, a family relationship, a business or employment relationship, a follower relationship, a visitor relationship, a subscriber relationship, a relationship with a superior / subordinate , a reciprocal relationship, a non-reciprocal relationship, another type of suitable relationship, or two or more such relationships. Furthermore, although this invention generally describes nodes as connected, this invention also describes users or concepts as connected. Here, references for connected users or concepts may refer, where appropriate, to nodes corresponding to those connected users or concepts in social graph 200 by one or more edges 206.
In particular embodiments, an edge 206 between the user node 202 and a concept node 204 may represent a particular action or activity performed by the user associated with the user node 202 towards the concept associated with the concept node 204. As an example and without wanting to limit, as illustrated in figure 2, the user can "like", "attend", "play", "listen", "cook", "work" or "see" a concept, each one of which may correspond to an edge type or subtype. A concept profile page corresponding to the concept node 204 may include, for example, a selectable "register" icon (such as, for example, a "click register" icon) or an "add to favorites" icon. ”. Similarly, after the user clicks on these icons, the social media system 160 may create a "favorite" border or a "record" border in response to the action of the user.

As another example and without any intention of limiting, the user (user “C”) can listen to a particular song (“Imagine”) with the use of a particular application (SPOTIFY, which is an online music application). In this case, the social media system 160 can create a "heard" edge 206 and a "used" edge (as illustrated in Figure 2) between nodes 202 corresponding to the user and concept nodes 204 corresponding to the song. and to the application to indicate that the user listened to the song and used the application. In addition, the social media system 160 may create a "played" border 206 (as illustrated in Figure 2) between the concept nodes 204 corresponding to the song and the application to indicate that the particular song has been played by the application. particular. In this case, the edge 206 "played" corresponds to an action carried out by an external application (SPOTIFY) on an external audio file (the song "Imagine"). Although this invention describes particular edges 206 with particular attributes that connect user nodes 202 and concept nodes 204, this invention contemplates any appropriate edge 206 with any suitable attribute connecting user nodes 202 and concept nodes 204. Furthermore, while this invention describes edges between user node 202 and concept node 204 that represent a unique relationship, this invention contemplates edges between user node 202 and concept node 204, which represents one or more relationships. . As an example and not intended to be limiting, border 206 may represent both those that the user has liked and used with a particular concept. Fit
IMPI INSTITUTO MEXICANO DE LA ΡβΟΓΙΕΟΑΓ INDUSTRIAL alternative, another edge 206 can represent each type of relationship (or multiple of a single relationship) between node 202 of the user and node 204 of the concept (as illustrated in Figure 2 between the user node 202 for user "E" and concept node for "SPOTIFY").
In particular embodiments, the social network system 160 may create a border 206 between the user node 202 and the concept node 204 on the social graph 200. By way of example and without intent to limit, the user viewing a profile concept page (such as, for example, using a web browser or a special purpose application that is hosted by the user's client system 130) may indicate that you like the concept represented by the concept node 204 by clicking or selecting a "like" icon, which may cause the user's client system 130 to send to the social media system 160, a message indicating that the user likes the concept associated with the profile concept page. In response to the message, the social media system 160 may create a border 206 between the user node 202 associated with the user and the concept node 204, as illustrated by the "like" border 206 between the user and the user. node 204 of the concept. In particular embodiments, the social media system 160 may store an edge 206 in one or more data stores. In particular embodiments, edge 206 may be automatically formed by social media system 160 in response to a particular user action. As an example and with no intent to limit, when the first user uploads an image, watches a movie, or listens to a song, the edge 206 can be formed between the

FIG. 3 illustrates an exemplary mobile client system 130. This invention contemplates the mobile client system 130 that takes any physical form. In particular embodiments, the mobile client system 130 may be a computer system as described below. As an example and not intended to be limiting, the mobile client system 130 may be a single board computer (SBC) system (such as, for example, a computer module (COM) or a system-in-module (SOM)), a notebook or portable computer system, a mobile phone, a smart phone, a personal digital assistant (PDA), a tablet computer system or a combination of two or more of these. In particular embodiments, the mobile client system 130 may have a touch sensor 132 as an input component. In the example of Figure 3, the touch sensor 132 is incorporated into the front surface of the mobile client system 130. In the case of capacitive touch sensors, there can be two types of electrodes, transmitting and receiving. These electrodes may be connected to a controller designed to activate the transmitting electrodes with electrical pulses and measure changes in capacitance relative to the receiving electrodes caused by touch or a nearby input. In the example of Figure 3, one or more antennas 134A-B can be incorporated on one or more sides of the mobile client system 130. The 134A-B antennas are components that convert electrical current into radio waves and vice versa. During signal transmission, the transmitter applies an oscillating radio frequency electrical current to the antenna terminals 134A-B, which radiates the energy of the applied current as electromagnetic (EM) waves. During signal reception, antennas 134A-B converts the energy of an incoming EM wave into voltage at the terminals of antennas 134A-B. The voltage can be transmitted to a receiver for amplification.
In particular embodiments, the mobile client system 130 may include a communication component coupled with antennas 134A-B to communicate with an Ethernet network or a wired-based network or a wireless NIC (WNIC), a wireless adapter to communicate with a wireless network, such as for example a Wi-Fi network or modem to communicate with a cellular network, such as third generation (3G) mobile telecommunications or a Long Term Evolution (LTE) network. This invention contemplates any suitable network and any communication component 20 therefor. As an example and without intent to limit, the mobile client system 130 may communicate with an ad hoc network, a personal area network (PAN), a local area network (LAN), a wide area network (WAN), a metropolitan area network (MAN) or one or more portions of the Internet or a combination of two or more of them. One or more portions of one or more of these networks can be wired or wireless. As another example, the mobile client system 130 may
INSTITUI!) MEXICANO DE LA PROrUliAP INDUSTRIAL communicate with a wireless PAN (WPAN), (such as for example, a BLUETOOTH WPAN), a Wi-Fi network, a Wi-MAX network, a cell phone network (such as for example , a Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM), 3G or LTE network) or other wireless network or a combination of two or more of them. The mobile client system 130 may include any communication component for any of these networks, where appropriate.
In particular embodiments, the communication component coupled with the antennas 134A-B of the mobile client system 130 can be configured to determine location data based on global positioning system (GPS) signals, cellular triangulation, hot spots wireless or any suitable method to determine location data. In particular embodiments, the location service of the mobile client system 130 may use one or more methods of location determination, such as, for example, using the location of one or more cell towers, the associated collective location information with a Wi-Fi hotspot or GPS function of the mobile client system 130. As an example and without intent to limit, the application may use GPS data as the primary source of location information, depending, at least in part, on whether the mobile client system 130 has the ability to acquire GPS data within a predetermined time period. As another example, when the mobile client system 130 cannot acquire the GPS data within the predetermined sampling duration, the application can use the determined location with the use of one or more cell towers.

Suggested inquiries and cards
Introduction
In particular embodiments, the social network system 160 may be configured to generate the personalized recommendations of objects that may be represented as a concept node of a social graph described above. Here, the reference to a suggested query can refer to a search query with one or more search terms autopopulated with user information. Here, the reference to a query domain can refer to a grouping

IMPI INSTITUTO MEXlCANC Ot ΙΛ Logical industrial PROPERTY of content objects related to an IT category ·1 W 1 - - lilac Mr - - * IB I 1 M · r particular. Here, the reference to a query filter can refer to a filter applied in the query domain that references the metadata or an attribute of the query domain objects. As an example and not intended to be limiting, the social media system 160 may generate a suggested query for the user as one or more structured queries, unstructured queries, or any combination thereof. As another example, the social media system 160 may generate one or more cards that refer to one or more search results for the suggested query. Although the invention describes generating a suggested query in a particular way, this invention contemplates generating the suggested query in any appropriate way.
Figure 5 illustrates an exemplary page of an online social network. To conduct a search, the user can enter or submit a search query in the search engine. In general, the user can enter any character string within the search query field 510 of a page 520 of a social media system 160 to search for content on the social media system 160 that matches the search query. . In particular embodiments, page 520 may present one or more groups 530 of cards, where each card 450 may correspond to a recommendation that is personalized for the user, as described below. As an example and not intended to limit, one or more card groups 530 may be displayed on page 520 in response to the user clicking on the
INSTITUTO MEXICANO DE LA HOFltDAi) INDUSTRIAL cursor in search query field 510. In particular modalities, the application or page 520 can generate cards through a suggested query for the user, which includes one or more search terms relevant to the user and automatically generated by the social network system 160. Each 450 card may include one or more search results 550 that correspond to the suggested query associated with the 450 card. In particular embodiments, the initial card group 530 may include one or more cards 450 without any filters, as described below.
In particular embodiments, the suggested query can correspond to a phrase with one or more self-populated search terms and can take the form of an unstructured text query. The social media system 160 may then search the data store 164 (or in particular, a social graph database) to identify the content that matches the suggested query. The search engine can conduct a search based on the suggested query phrase using various search algorithms and generates search results that identify resources or content (for example, user profile pages, user profile pages). external content or resources) that are most likely related to the suggested search query. In response, the search engine can identify one or more resources that are most likely related to the suggested query, each of which can be referred to individually as a 'search result' or collectively, they can be referred to as "search results

The content. id_gntifi cad qtit may include, for example, social-graphic elements (eg, user nodes 202 or concept nodes 204), profile pages, external web pages, or any combination thereof. As described below, the social media system 160 can then generate one or more card groups 530 with one or more cards 450 corresponding to the identified content that can be sent to the user.
As illustrated in the example of Figures 5 and 8, the results of the suggested query can be presented to the user, in the form of one or more cards 450, each card has one or more search results 550 that can include one or more links or hyperlinks, each link is associated with a different page that contains some of the identified content or resources. In particular embodiments, each link on the cards 450 may be in the form of a Uniform Resource Locator (URL), which specifies the location of the corresponding page and the mechanism for retrieving it. The social media system 160 may then send one or more cards 450 (eg, as a group 530 of cards) to the web browser 132 in the user's client system 130. The user can then click on the URL links or otherwise select the content of the cards 450 to access the content from the social media system 160 or from the external system (such as, for example, a third-party system 170 part), as appropriate.
As described below, 450 cards in each 530 group
<img file="MX349472B_D0021.tif" />
Cards can be classified and presented to the user according to inferred relative degrees of relevance to the user. In other words, the cards 450 may be personalized for the user for example, based on social-graphic information, user information, user browsing or search history or other appropriate user related information. In particular embodiments, the cards can be classified (and therefore personalized for the particular user) with the use of a classification algorithm. The ranking algorithm can be implemented by the social media system 160 (eg, by the search engine or other appropriate system) in any suitable way. As an example and without any intent to limit, cards that are more relevant to the user can be ranked higher than cards that are less relevant to the user. In particular modalities, the search engine can limit its search to resources and content on the online social network. However, in particular embodiments, the search engine may also search for resources and content from other sources, such as a third party system 170, the Internet or the Net, or other appropriate resources. Although this invention describes querying the social media system 160 in a particular way, this invention contemplates querying the social media system 160 in any appropriate way.
In particular embodiments, one or more cards 450 or groups 530 of cards displayed on page 520 can be modified in response to the text entered within the search query field 510. In particular modalities, one or more processes on the side of the
Client and / or back-end (server-side) can be implemented and use a "type" feature that can automatically modify the suggested query to include terms relevant to the user and the text currently entered by the user within the query field 510 search. In particular modalities, while the user enters the text within the search query field 510, the type characteristic may try to match the string of text characters entered in the declaration of character strings (for example, names, descriptions) corresponding to the user, concepts or borders and their corresponding elements in the social graph 200. In particular modalities, when a match is found, the type characteristic can automatically populate the suggested query with a reference for the social-graphic element (such as for example, node name / node type, node ID, name / border type, border ID, or other appropriate reference or identifier) of the existing social element As an example and not intended to limit, when the user types in "food" or "restaurants" one or more cards 450 can be displayed, which incorporate some typical suggestions, such as "Restaurants in ..." while allowing the user to continue typing. In addition, a (Restaurants) card (for example 450) can be moved to the top of the 530 card group and one or more related non-food cards (for example 450), such as for example, “Restaurant Programs television ”can be hidden. The user can then browse through one or more (Restaurant) cards as a personalized list of restaurant recommendations. Can be found

More information on type processes in United States Patent Application no. 12/763162, filed April 19, 2010, and United States Patent Application no. 13/556072, filed July 23, 2012, which are incorporated herein by reference.
In particular modalities, the type processes described here can be applied to search for queries entered by the user. As an example and without any intention of limiting, as the user enters the text characters into the search query field 510, the type process may attempt to identify one or more nodes 202 of the user, nodes 204 of the concept, or edges 206 that match the string of characters entered in the search query field 510, while the user enters the characters. While the type process receives requests or calls that include a string or n-gram from the text query, the type process can perform or cause a modified suggested query to be performed to identify the social-graphic elements individual (i.e. user nodes 202, concept nodes 204, edges 206) based at least in part on names, types, categories or other respective identifiers that match the text entered along with the information associated with the user. The type processing can use one or more equality algorithms to try to identify the matching nodes or edges and processes the modified suggested query incorporating the identified nodes or edges. In response to the modified suggested query, the social media system 160 can automatically call or search (or alternatively (or alternatively iNvrmnn MtxiCANO CE LA P »O? UDAI> fNtXlJTRIAL, based on an instruction in the request)) a social database -graphics for the matching social-graphic elements or for the social-graphic elements connected with the matching social-graphic elements, as appropriate. Although this invention describes applying the type processes to look up queries in a particular way, this invention contemplates applying the type processes to look up queries in any appropriate way.
In connection with search queries and search results, the particular modalities may use one or more systems, components, elements, functions, methods, operations or steps described in the United States Patent Application No. 11/503093, filed August 11, 2006, United States Patent Application No. 12/977027, filed December 22, 2010, United States Patent Application No. 12/978265, filed December 23, 2010 and United States Patent Application No. 14/052536, filed October 11, 2013, which is incorporated herein by reference.
Element detection and ambiguous term analysis
As described above, in response to text entered into user search-query field 510, social media system 160 can identify portions of the text that may correspond to particular social-graphic elements. However, in some cases the text entered within the search query field 510 may include one or more terms that are ambiguous, where an ambiguous term is a term that may possibly correspond to
IMPI multiple social-graphic elements. To analyze the ambiguous form, the social network system 160 may access a social graph 200 and then analyze the text to identify the social-graphical elements that corresponded to ambiguous n-grams of the text query. The social media system 160 can then modify the suggested query to include one or more structured queries, where each structured query corresponds to one of the possible matching social-graphic elements. These structured queries can be based on strings generated by a grammatical model, so that they are produced with a natural syntax of the language with reference to the relevant social-graphic elements. In particular modalities, these structured queries can be classified based on the information associated with the user to infer, from among the structured queries, the social-graphic element that is most relevant for the user. The social media system 160 can also block the ambiguous term in the text of the inferred social-graphic element as the most relevant to the user. Although this invention describes generating particular structured queries in a particular way, the invention contemplates generating any structured query in any appropriate way.
As an example and without any intention of limiting, the user can enter unstructured text "Stanford friends" into the search-query field 510. While the querying user enters the unstructured text into the search-query field 510, the social media system 160 may modify the suggested query to include structured queries incorporating the unstructured text, as described above. In particular modalities, in the 160 network system
<img file="MX349472B_D0023.tif" />
The suggested query can take the form of one or more self-populated unstructured queries to include information relevant to the user, such as current or user profile information, as described below. Of course, the text may be structured with respect to standard grammar / language rules (eg, English language grammar). However, the text is generally unstructured with respect to social-graphic elements. In other words, the text entered within the search-query field 502 may not include the embedded references for the particular socialgraphic elements. Thus, as used herein, a structured query refers to a query that contains references to particular social-graphic elements, allowing the search engine to search based on the identified elements. Also, the text may be unstructured with respect to the formal query syntax. In other words, the text is not necessarily in the format of a query command that can be executed directly by the search engine (for example, the text query "Stanford friends" can be parsed to form a suggested query command " intersect (school (Stanford University), friends (mine), or 7 search / mine / friends / (node ID for University
Stanford) / students / past / intersect ”, which can be executed as a suggested query in a social-graphic database). With respect to the cards 450, described below, the social network system 160 can generate cards 450 that correspond both to the results of the standard query and to the results of the query. ^ Structure— example and without any intention of limiting, the social network system 160 can generate a first card 450 that corresponds to the results of the standard process and a second card 450 corresponding to the query "Close Friends" and a third card 450 that corresponds to the results of the structured query "Close friends who attended Stanford. " These cards 450 can then be classified and filtered as described below.
Although this invention describes receiving particular suggested inquiries in a particular manner, this invention contemplates receiving any suggested inquiry in any manner.
More information about element detection and query analysis can be found in US Patent Application no. 13/556072, filed July 23, 2012, United States Patent Application no. 13/731866, filed December 31, 2012 and United States Patent Application no. 13/732101, filed December 31, 2012, each of which is incorporated herein by reference. Generate structured search queries
In particular embodiments, the social network system 160 may have access to a free context grammar model comprising a plurality of grammars. Each grammar of the grammar model can comprise one or more non-terminal tokens (or “non-terminal symbols”) and one or more terminal tokens (or “terminal symbols” / ”query tokens”), where the non-terminal tokens are! Ν5Τ1ΤίΓΓΟ MEXICANO Dt LA FROPIÉDAD INDUSTRIAL can be replaced by terminal tokens. A grammar model is a group of string formation rules in formal language. In particular embodiments, the social network system 160 can generate one or more strings with the use of one or more grammars. To generate a string in the language, you start with a string that consists of only the start symbol. The production rules are then applied in any order, until a chain is produced that contains neither the start symbol nor the designated non-terminal symbols. In free context grammar, the production of each non-terminal symbol of the grammar is independent of what is produced by other non-terminal symbols of the grammar. Non-terminal symbols can be replaced with terminal symbols (that is, terminal tokens or query tokens). Some of the query tokens can correspond to the identified nodes or to the identified edges, as described above. A string generated by the grammar can then be used as the basis for a structured query that contains references for the identified nodes or for the identified edges. The string generated by the grammar can be produced with the natural syntax of the language, so that the structured query based on the string also occurs in the natural language. Context-free grammar is a grammar where the left side of each production rule consists of only one non-terminal symbol. Non-probabilistic context-free grammar is a tupiein where the disjunctive symbols Σ and N specify the terminal and non-terminal symbols, respectively, with S and N being the start symbol. Furthermore, this invention describes generating chains in a particular way, this invention contemplates generating chains in any appropriate way.
In particular embodiments, the social media system 160 can generate a suggested query that can include one or more structured queries. Structured queries can be based on natural language strings generated by one or more grammars, as described above. Each structured query can include references to one or more of the identified nodes or to one or more of the identified edges 206. This type of structured query can allow the social media system 160 to more efficiently search for resources and content related to the online social network (such as, for example, profile pages) by searching for content connected to or related to another. shaped with the user's identified nodes 202 and identified edges 206. As an example and with no intention of limiting, in response to the text in the search query field 510, "show friends of my girlfriend", the social media system 160 may generate a suggested query that includes the structured query "Stephanie's friends" , where "friends" and "Stephanie" in the structured query are references corresponding to the particular social-graphic elements. The reference to "Stephanie" corresponds to a node 202 of the __— particular user (where the social media system 160 has parsed n-grams "my girlfriend" to correspond with the user node 202 for the user "Stephanie"), while the reference to "Friends" will correspond to the friend-type edges 206, which connect that user's node 202 with other user's nodes 202 (ie, edges 206 that connect with "Stephanie's" first degree friends). When this structured query is executed, the social network system 160 may identify one or more user's nodes 202 connected by friend edges 206 with the user's node 202 corresponding to "Stephanie." As an example and without the intention of limiting, in response to the text "friends who work at Facebook", the 160 social network system can generate a structured query "My friends who work at Facebook", where "my friends", "work at "And" Facebook "in the structured query are references corresponding to the particular social-graphic elements, as described above (that is, edge 206 friend type, edge 206 work-on-type, and node 204 of the concept, corresponding to the company “Facebook”). Based on the results of the modified suggested query, the social media system 160 may modify one or more cards 450 or a group 530A-B of cards to incorporate, for example, the names (name strings) of the matching nodes. These structured queries can be pre-generated and a cache can be accessed or they are dynamically generated in response to user input. Although this invention describes generating particular structured queries in a certain way, this invention
IMPI ινπτπιτ · Mexican · £ LA MOHEDA »industrial contemplates generating any appropriate structured query in any appropriate form. .......
In particular modalities, the social network system 160 can mark the generated suggested queries. The mark can be, for example, a confidentiality mark, probability, quality, classification, another type of appropriate mark, or any combination thereof. Suggested queries can be flagged based on a variety of factors, such as, for example, the page or page type the user is accessing, interested user factors, business intelligence data, predicted click-through rate (CTR) of particular suggested queries, the conversion rate of particular suggested queries, user preferences, the user's search history, ad sponsorship of particular queries, user social-graphic affinity for referenced social-graphic elements in particular queries, inferred user intent, general or current popularity of particular suggested queries, usefulness of particular suggested queries, user's current geographic location, time current, other appropriate factors, or any combination thereof. Although this invention describes classifying the suggested queries in a particular way, this invention contemplates classifying the suggested queries in any appropriate way.
As described above, the cards 450 corresponding to the suggested queries can be displayed in the user interface (Ul) of a native application or of a web page accessed by a client browsing the client's system 130 user, as illustrated in figure 3. In particular modalities, the cards
450 corresponding to the suggested queries can be presented to the user in a ranked order, such as for example, based on a previously determined ranking, as described above. Furthermore, in particular modalities, the cards 450 corresponding to the suggested queries on a brand classification can be sent or displayed to the user. More information on structured search queries and grammar patterns can be found in United States Patent Application no. 13/556072, filed July 23, 2012, in United States Patent no. 13/674695, filed November 12, 2012 and in United States Patent No. 13/731866, filed December 31, 2012, each of which is incorporated herein by reference.
Generate search results
In particular embodiments, in response to a suggested query generated by a particular application or program, the social media system 160 may generate one or more search results, where each search result matches (or essentially matches) the terms of the search. suggested query. The social media system 160 may generate a suggested query based, at least in part, on user information for the user's node 202. As described below, in response to the suggested query, the social media system 160 may generate one or more cards 450 corresponding to the search results of the suggested query. In particular embodiments, the cards 450 corresponding to the search results can be grouped or classified and sent to the user as a page accessed by the client's browser or an Ul of the native application. Although this invention describes and illustrates displaying cards and groups of cards on particular pages, this invention contemplates displaying cards and groups of cards on any appropriate page.
In particular modalities, the social network system 160 can generate one or more cards 450 corresponding to the search results of the suggested query. The cards 450 can include information that identifies the resources or content (eg, user profile pages, content profile pages, or external resources) that match or are related to the suggested query. In particular embodiments, each card 450 may correspond to a particular node 202 of the user or to a concept node 204, of the social graph 200. The cards 450 may include a link to the profile page associated with the node, as well as contextual information about the node (that is, the contextual information about the user or the concept that corresponds to the node). In particular embodiments, each search result may correspond to a node that is connected to one or more of the nodes selected by one or more of the selected edges of the suggested query. In particular embodiments, the social media system 160 may also stream advertisements or other sponsored content to the customer's system 130 in response to the suggested query. As an example and without intent to limit, the card recommendation module 630 may identify a particular query filter (eg, ("Genre") that has an associated filter value of (eg, ("Sci-Fi") based on other users who have at least a subset of demographic information in common with the user, such as, for example, having the same level of education and occupation. In particular embodiments, the card recommendation module 630 can identify one or more query filters and filter values for a particular query domain based, at least in part, on determining whether the user is local or a tourist. at the current location. As an example and without any intention of limiting, the determination of whether the user is a local or a tourist of the current location may be based on comparing the current location of the user with his residence or the location of the residence information stored by the module 650 demographic data. As another example, certain demographic information, such as, for example, the user's home address, work, school, etc., may be derived from stored historical GPS data or user's location data. For example, when the user's location data indicates that the user is in Menlo
Park during working hours, most social networks can infer that Menlo Park is the user's workplace. Furthermore, the user's inferred geolocations can be stored in the demographic data module 650 and is used by the card recommendation module 630 even when the user does not explicitly provide this information in their user profile. As another example, location data can be extracted from the user's photos to determine the geolocation associated with the user and infer the user's home address.
In particular embodiments, the user history module 640 can store the social-graphic information that can include the user's past activity within the social network system 160 that can be represented as an edge that connects the user's node with other nodes of the user's social graph 200, as described above. As an example and not intended to be limiting, the user history module 640 may include the entry history or the “like” history of the user. For example, the card recommendation module 630 can identify particular query filters (for example, ("Kitchen") and ("Location"), and the associated filter values ("China") and ("Palo Alto" )), respectively, that are relevant to the user based at least in part on the user having multiple entries in one or more restaurants of a particular restaurant near their residence. As described above, one or more query filters and associated filter values can be identified as more or less relevant to the user, based at least in part, on interactions or lack of user interaction with the cards. 450, which refer to query filters and associated filter values. In particular modalities, the card recommendation module 630 can identify one or more query filters for a particular query domain, based at least in part, on determining whether the user is local or a tourist for the current location. . As an example and not intended to be limiting, the determination of whether the user is a local or a tourist may be based on the user's "posts" or "likes" stored by the user history module 640. In particular modalities, the determination of whether the user is local or a tourist may be based on calculating a brand based on the user information stored in the user history module 640 or the demographic data module 650, as described before.
The card recommendation module 630 can send the identified query filters and the associated filter value of the particular query domains of the suggested query to the domain modules dominiOi-domainN. . ”Covers query domains that have the appropriate number of query filters and associated filter values. In particular modalities, the query filters can remove or ignore a subset of the search results returned by the domain modules dominiOTdominioN based at least in part on the identified query filters and the associated filter values. As an example and without any intention of limiting, for the query filter ("Classification") and the associated filter value ("4 Stars") of the query domain ("Restaurant"), one or more objects associated with the query domain ("Restaurant") are returned in response to the suggested query and have a filter value of ("4 Stars") for the query filter ("Rating") are sent to card adder module 620.
As described above, the card adder module 620 can generate one or more cards 450 that refer to one or more objects received from the domain-domain modules.N domain in response to the suggested query. In particular modalities, the interested user mark can be calculated for each card 450 based on one or more interested user factors. In particular modalities, the interested user factors may include one or more of socialgraphic information, demographic information, current user information or any combination thereof. The interested user mark, for example, may be a confidentiality mark, probability, quality, classification, another type of appropriate mark or any combination thereof. As an example and without any intention of limiting, the interested user brand for each card may represent the

probability that the user is interested in ittoFor example, the interested user tag may represent an estimate of the degree or depth of user interaction with the cards 450 that reference particular objects against a clearly defined set of targets. As an example and without any intention of limiting, calculating the brand of the interested user may be based on the previous interest with the 450 cards that refer to each query domain, the previous click rate on the 450 cards that refer to each query domain, the conversion rate of 450 individual cards, which refer to each query domain, user preferences, user search history, the user's social-graphic affinity for the socialgraphic elements or objects referenced by the 450 cards, infer the user's purpose, the user's current location, the general or current popularity of the 450 cards' query domain ("trends"), other appropriate factors or any combination thereof. As an example and not intended to limit, the user's preferences may specify, for example, the suggested queries or the types of suggested queries of interest and of no interest to the user. As an example and without intent to limit, the social media system 160 may identify cards 450 that correspond to suggested queries or refer to the user's preferred query / filter domains, as specified by user preferences, and calculate marks highest interest of the user for those cards 450 specified as preferred as the user (similarly, cards 450 corresponding to the queries

As another example, user intent can be inferred, as described above, and corresponding cards can be generated for suggested queries related to user intent and sent to the user. Although this invention describes calculating the cardholder mark of interest in a particular way, this invention contemplates calculating the cardholder mark of interest in any appropriate way.
The social media system 160 may send one or more cards 450 to the user. As an example and with no intent to limit, cards 450 can be shipped as one or more groups 530 of cards. In particular modalities, the cards 450 can be displayed on the current page to which the user has access. As an example and without any intention of limiting, the page may be the profile page of the social media system 160 (for example, the profile page of the user of the user who consults or of another user or a profile page of concept of a concept associated with the online social network), a news feed page of the online social network, the search results page corresponding to a particular card, or another appropriate page of the online social network. In particular modalities, each card 450 sent may have a higher interested user mark than the interested user mark for the user. After marking the cards 450, the social media system 160 can then send only those cards 450 that have the stakeholder mark higher than the user threshold mark.

interested. In particular modalities, the rates can be displayed on a news source page of the online social network. In particular modalities, the cards 450 corresponding to the suggested queries that have the interested user mark higher than the interested user threshold mark can be automatically launched to the user. As an example and without any intention of limiting, the cards sent can be displayed as one or more stories in the user's news feed, a notification launched to the user's client system 130d, a suggested null status query, or any combination thereof. . The cards 450 can be generated and stored, as described above, and rather than displaying the card associated with the search query field 350, the cards can be generated as a news source storage and displayed at the user's news source. in response to the user accessing the online social network news feed page, in a separate application, or on the customer's system home screen.
Figure 7 illustrates an exemplary method 700 for generating user cards. The method may start at step 710, where the social network system 160 may have access to a social graph 200, which comprises a plurality of nodes and a plurality of edges 206 that connect the nodes. The nodes may comprise a first user node 202 and a plurality of second nodes (one or more user nodes 202, concept nodes 204, or any combination thereof). FIG. 8 illustrates a prototype representation of an exemplary card interface in an exemplary mobile client system 130. As described above, the social media system 160 may automatically generate one or more cards 450, each including one or more search results 550. In particular embodiments, an initial card stack may include one or more cards 450 that refer to a query domain and zero query filters. In addition, each card 450 can correspond to a suggested query, which refers to a query domain associated with the social media system 160. In particular embodiments, one or more cards 450 may correspond to a preview of one or more search results of the suggested query.
As described above, the query domain of the cards 450 can be modified by one or more query filters. For example, a query domain ("restaurant") may have one or more query filters, such as ("location"), ("kitchen"), or ("rating"). In particular embodiments, cards 450 can result from a combination of query domain, zero or more query filters and zero or more filter values that can refer to one or more concept nodes, user nodes, edges of the graph. social 200, resources and objects in the social network system 160 or any combination thereof. For example, the user can view cards 450 with different query filters when scrolling through the group 530 of cards. As another example, the native application may detect an entry corresponding to a "sweep gesture" on a particular card 450 to reveal options for the user to apply different or additional query filters. In particular embodiments, detecting an input corresponding to a "sweep" gesture on a particular card 450 to display the next card 450 that has the same query domain and one or more different query filters than the previously displayed card 450. As an example and without any intention of limiting, the user can apply a query filter corresponding to one ("classification") of card 450 of the group 530 of cards with the query domain ("restaurants") and the query filter ("kitchen ”). In particular embodiments, the cards 450 lower down in the card group 530 may be modified based on user interactions with the previously described cards 450 in the card group 530. As an example and not intended to be limiting, cards 450 lower down in the card group 530 may display restaurants of a particular kitchen that additionally has a particular classification. In the particular modalities, the social network system 160 can generate relevant cards 450 for different periods of time. A particular 450 card may correspond to a search query that has search results that are immediately relevant, relevant for a period

future tense or relevant to any other --- eg <4e «le — de — Viempo - - appropriate. Cards 450 can be sorted in part in the time period in which they are relevant. As an example and without any intention of limiting, based on the historical application of the query filter (“dinner”), the 450 cards corresponding to “places to dine today” can be placed higher in the 530 group of cards even when they are only 2:00 PM, which is not "normal" dinner time and therefore may not be immediately relevant for several hours. As an example and with no intention of limiting, based on the user's current location (eg, as determined by the customer's mobile system 130) who is out of the office, cards 450 corresponding to "places to eat" can be place higher in the 530 pool of cards even when the current time is 2:00 PM, which may be after “normal” lunch hours, but it can be considered immediately relevant based on the current location of the user.
Ranking cards with suggested queries
In particular embodiments, the card classification 450 may be based, at least in part, on the particular query domains, query filters, filter values, or any combination thereof. Here, the reference to a predicted CTR rating can refer to the probability that the user will "click" to interact with an entity or user associated with the content of the particular card 450. As an example and with no intention of limiting, the social media system 160 may classify cards 450 using a value model described below. As another example and without

FROM INDUSTRIAL PROPERTY intended to limit, the social network system 160 can handle cards 450 according to inferring the use case associated with card 450, as described below. Although this invention describes classifying cards in one or more particular ways, this invention contemplates any appropriate way.
In particular embodiments, the social media system 160 may classify the cards 450 of a particular card group 530 based at least in part on the value model. As an example and without any intention of limiting, the ranking value model may be based on a predicted CTR, as well as an interest value of the card user, which can represent the interest, satisfaction, happiness, etc., of the user, when they click on the particular card (or carry out an activity associated with the card) or may represent an actual monetary value (eg, ad sponsorship) associated with interacting with the particular card. As an example and not intended to limit, a first activity (for example, reading an article) with a click rate of 10% may have a user interest value of 1, which represents the user's nominal interest in the activity, while the second activity (for example, buying a ticket for a concert) may have a CTR of 20 1%, but a user interest value of 100, where the second activity can be determined to have users 100 times happier (or 100 times more interesting) to do this, better than the first activity. Therefore, the cards 450 related to the activity can be ranked higher than the cards 450 related to the first activity, however, the second activity is associated with cards that

IMPI rwrrruTo muicanc DE LA kaOMEDAl> INDUSTRIAL has a lower predicted CTR. In particular ep mode, the value model can be a function of a predicted CTR multiplied by the predicted conversion rate and multiplied by the user interest value of the conversion event.
As another example, the ranking value model may be based, at least in part, on the social media system 160, which calculates the predicted CTR for each card 450. The social media system 160 can infer that the Cards 450 that correspond to the suggested queries with the highest predicted CTRs are of most interest to the user. For example, the social media system 160 may calculate the predicted CTR based on at least several factors, such as, for example, the time of day, the day of the week, the user's current location, the CTRs of other users. with similar demographics, a calculated CTR for the user with respect to query domains / query filters, social affinity, or any combination thereof. In particular embodiments, the social media system 160 can calculate the predicted CTR for each card 450 based, at least in part, on user preferences. As an example and not intended to limit, one or more of the user's preferences may be specified by the user, other users (for example, the user's parents or employers), system administrators, third-party systems, or may be determined from another way through the 160 social media system.
In particular modalities, the social network system 160 can calculate the predicted CTR for each card 450 based on, therefore

INDUSTRIAL 1 less in part, in the search histories of the users of the social network. As an example and without any intention of limiting, cards 450 that refer to the social-graphic objects (or types of objects) to which the user has previously had access (or which have been accessed by other users that are relevant to the user , such as the "friends" of the user) or that are relevant to the social-graphic objects of the user to which he has had access, may be more likely of interest to the user. In this way, these 450 cards can be marked higher. As an example and not intended to be limiting, when the user has previously visited the “Stanford University” profile page and has a current location in Palo Alto, the social media system 160 may determine that a particular card 450 that it references concept node 204 for "Stanford University" has a relatively high CTR based, at least in part, on the user having prior access to concept node 204 for university. As another example, when the user has previously interacted with the search results associated with particular query domains and does not interact with the search results associated with other query domains, then the social media system 160 can mark the predicted CTR of the cards 450 by referencing the query domains previously interacted by the user higher than other cards 450 referencing other previously non-interacted query domains.
In particular modalities, the social network system 160 can calculate the predicted CTR for each card 450 based, at least in part, on the social-graphic affinity of node 202 HaI lignaria corresponding to the user with respect to one or more of the nodes referenced on one or more cards 450. Cards 450 that refer to nodes that have a high social-graphic affinity (eg, a high affinity coefficient) with respect to the user may be more likely to be of interest to the user. Thus, these cards 450 can have a higher predicted CTR. As an example and without intent to limit, the social media system 160 may calculate the predicted CTRs of the cards 450 based, at least in part, on the degree of separation (which may be an affinity measurement) between node 202 of the user of the user and the particular social-graphic objects referenced in the respective card 450. Cards 450 that reference the social-graphic objects that are closest on the social graphic 200 to the user (for example, a few degrees less of separation between the object and the user's user node 202) may have a CTR predicted higher than 450 cards that refer to social-graphic objects that are further away from the user (eg, more degrees of separation). Although this invention describes calculating the predicted CTR in any particular way, this invention contemplates calculating the predicted CTR in any appropriate way.
In particular embodiments, the social media system 160 may calculate the predicted CTR for each card 450 based at least in part on determining the trend with respect to a particular query domain or suggested card query filter values.
450. In addition, the social-network system 160 can calculate trending query domains or trending query filters based on the activity of all users of the social media system 160. As an example and without any intention of limiting, the social media system 160 may determine that a particular query domain (for example, ("Restaurants")), is trending when there is an increase in activity, such as for example, by the "clicks" or "likes" associated with one or more concept nodes corresponding to restaurants over a relatively short period of time, in addition, The social media system 160 may determine a particular filter value (eg, ("Chinos")) associated with the particular query filter (eg, ("Kitchen")) that is trending when there is an increase in activity, such as "check-ins," comments, or "likes" associated with concept nodes for Chinese restaurants over a relatively short period of time. In particular embodiments, the cards 450 refer to the objects corresponding to the trending query domains or the filter values associated with the query filters that may have a higher predicted CTR than the cards 450 that refer to the objects that are not in trend.
In particular modalities, the social network system 160 can classify the cards 450 based, at least in part, on inferring a use case associated with each card 450. Furthermore, inferring the user's use case may be based on at least in part, in the user's history or the history of other users with information

In particular embodiments, the user's inferred jas-intents may correspond to the particular suggested queries or query domains / filters, and the cards 450 corresponding to the suggested queries that match the user's inferred intent may be ranked higher. In particular modalities, the social network system 160 can infer the user's intention based on a variety of factors, such as, for example, the time of day, the user's proximity to other users or objects, social-graphic information, affinity social-graphic, the user's search history, user feedback, the user's geographic location, other relevant information about the user, or any combination thereof. As an example and without intent to limit, the social media system 160 may infer that the user is interested in finding a restaurant based on the time of day and information, such as, for example, the user's user history. For example, the social media system 160 may classify the cards 450 that refer to particular restaurants at a particular time based at least in part on the user's frequent entries into restaurants at that particular time of day. As another example, the social media system 160 may rank the particular cards 450 higher based on the particular day of the week and information, such as, for example, the user's history, of the user. For example, the social media system 160 may rank 450 cards that reference ("Movies") higher on that particular day of the week (eg, Friday) based at least in part on the history of the 2 (for example,

Figure 9 illustrates an exemplary method 900 for sorting cards. The method may begin at step 910, where the social network system 160 may have access to a social graph 200, which comprises a plurality of nodes and a plurality of edges 206 connecting the nodes. The nodes may comprise a first user node 202 and a plurality of second nodes (one or more user nodes 202, concept nodes 204, or any combination thereof). In step 920, the social media system 160 may generate a group of cards that includes a number of cards. In particular modalities, each card corresponds to a suggested query that refers to a query domain associated with the online social network and zero or more query filters. In particular embodiments, each query filter refers to one or more nodes or to one or more edges. In step 930, the social media system 160 may calculate a predicted CTR for each card in the card group based on one or more factors of user interest. At step 940, the social media system 160 may rank each of the cards in the card group based on the predicted CTR. In step 950, the social media nORlKDAD ÍNWJSTR1AL system 160 can send the set of cards to the first user for display on a page to which the first user has access. In particular embodiments, the cards in the group of cards may be ordered based on the classification associated with the cards. Particular embodiments may repeat one or more steps of the method of Figure 9, where appropriate. Although this invention describes and illustrates particular steps of the method of Figure 9, as occurring in a particular order, this invention contemplates any other step of the method of Figure 9 occurring in any appropriate order. Furthermore, although this invention describes and illustrates an exemplary method for sorting cards, which includes the particular steps of the method of Figure 9, the invention contemplates any appropriate method for sorting cards that includes additional steps, which may include all, some, or none. of the method steps of Figure 9, where appropriate. Figure 10 illustrates an exemplary grouping of groups 530 of cards. Although Figure 10 illustrates a particular configuration of card groups 530 with a particular card configuration, this invention contemplates any appropriate card group configuration with any 115 appropriate card configuration. In particular modalities, the system 160 of social networks can

sort the 450 cards (each 450 card shows urHy & -more ^ restrttadcrs ----- 550 search) from the plurality of the 530 group of cards and classify each 530 group of cards, so that the most interesting 450 cards are presented to the user. As illustrated in the example of Figure 10, the groups 530A-C of cards can be displayed in a vertical configuration on an Ul or on a page. As described above, each group 530 of cards can refer to a particular query domain and zero or more query filters. In particular embodiments, groups 530A-C of cards can be ranked from highest to lowest inferred relevance to the user, as described above, and displayed in descending order. As an example and not intended to limit, a first group 530A of cards may include cards 450 that refer to the query domain ("Restaurant"), a second group 530B of cards may include cards 450 that refer to the query domain (" Movie ") and a third group 530C of cards may include cards 450 that refer to the query domain (" monuments "). In particular embodiments, the user can navigate between groups 530A-C of cards by performing a "unfold" touch gesture.
As illustrated in the example of FIG. 10, each card group 530A (including cards 450A-C) that refer to a particular query domain with different query filters can be arranged in a horizontal configuration. In particular embodiments, the horizontal display through the group 530A of cards navigates between the cards 450A-C with cards 450 that refer to the same query domain and different filter values. Comt + xin · example- and-without- ----- limiting intentions, the 530A groups of cards can include cards, where each one refers to the query domain ("Restaurant") and different query filters. For example, a first card 450A may refer to a query filter ("Kitchen"), a second card 450B may refer to a query filter ("Classification"), and a third card 450C refers to a query filter. ("Location"). As another example, the card group 530A may include cards 450, where each reference to the query domain ("Restaurant") and the query filter ("Kitchen") have different filter values. For example, the first card 450A may refer to a first value ("China"), a second card 450B may refer to the filter value ("India"), and the third card 450C may refer to a filter value ( "Ethiopian").
In particular embodiments, the social media system 160 may rank the card groups 530 based, at least in part, on the predicted CTR of the cards 450 in each card group 530. Furthermore, the cards 450 in each card group 530 may be classified on a similar basis. As an example and without intent to limit, the social media system 160 may rank each 530AC group of cards based, at least in part, on the predicted CTR value of the 450 card that has the highest predicted CTR of each group 530A-C of card. For example, a first group 530A of cards may include cards 450 that refer to the query domain ("Restaurant"), a second group 530B of cards may include

As another example, the social media system 160 may rank the card groups 530 based, at least in part, on the average CTR of all cards in the particular query domain. As another example, the group 530A-C of cards from each query domain can be ranked by a weighted average of the predicted CTR of the cards 450 from the particular query domain. In particular embodiments, the lowest predicted CTR value cards 450 may be added to the card group 530 for a smoother transition between the cards 450 of one or more card groups 530. Although this invention describes classifying the groups of cards of the query domain in a particular way, this invention contemplates classifying the group of cards of the card domains in any appropriate way.
Card grouping with suggested queries
In particular modalities, the social network system 160 can group the cards 450 into groups 530 of cards. The cards 450 can be grouped into groups 530 of cards based on the card affinity calculated with respect to each card 450. Here, the reference to card affinity can refer to a metric to represent the strength of the relationship between two or more cards 450. Here, the reference to the brand of the card affinity may refer to a minimum affinity value of

As another example, the social media system 160 may propagate one or more query filters to subsequent cards 450 of a card group 530 based on user interaction. Although this invention describes generating card groups in a particular way, this invention contemplates generating card groups in any appropriate way.
In particular embodiments, the social network system 160 may consider one or more affinities when calculating the card affinity of the cards 450 with respect to the other cards 450. Exemplary affinities that can be used to calculate the card affinity may include domain. from query to query domain, query filter to query filter, filter value to filter value, or any combination thereof. As an example and not intended to be limiting, the social media system 160 may calculate card affinity based, at least in part, on the signals provided by essentially all users of the social media system 160. As another example, the social media system 160 may calculate card affinity based, at least in part, on object characteristics, the user's social-graphic affinity, the user's demographic information, the activities of "friends ”Or any combination thereof.

In particular embodiments, the social media system 160 may calculate the card affinity based, at least in part, on calculating the card affinity corresponding to the different query domains and the same query filters or filter values. As an example and without intent to limit, the social media system 160 may determine the cards 450 corresponding to the query domains of ("Books"), ("TV Shows") and ("Movies") that have the affinity higher than each other in the query filter (“Gender”) and the filter value (“Sci-F¡”) based at least in part on the activity of other users of the social media system 160, that have at least the same overlapping demographics as the user, with respect to the objects corresponding to the query filter ("Genre") and the filter value ("Sci-Fi"). In particular embodiments, the social media system 160 may calculate the card affinity based at least in part on calculating the affinity of the cards corresponding to the same query domain and on different query filters or associated filter values. As an example and without intent to limit, the social media system 160 may determine the cards 450 corresponding to the query filter ("Kitchen") that have the highest affinity for each other in the query domain ("Restaurant") based on , at least in part, in the user's history in the social media system 160 with respect to objects that reference the query filter ("Kitchen"), such as for example, the user "links" or "enters" restaurants in a kitchen

As another example, the social network system 160 may calculate the cards 450 corresponding to the query filter ("Rank") that have the highest affinity for each other in the query domain ("Restaurant") based at least in part. in the user's history in the social media system 160 with respect to the objects corresponding to the query filter ("Classification"), such as for example, the "link" or "entrance" to restaurants of a particular classification.
In particular embodiments, the social media system 160 may update the card affinity calculations based, at least in part, on the user's interactions with the cards 450. As described above, the social media system 160 may modify one or more cards 450 from a group 530 of cards based on user interactions with cards 450 displayed from the group 530 of cards. As an example and without intent to limit, the social media system 160 may apply a query filter and associated filter values on the cards 450 based on user interactions. For example, a first group 530A of cards may include cards 450 that refer to the query domain ("Restaurant") with a filter ("Rating") and the associated filter value ("4 Stars"), so that the First group 530A of cards includes cards that refer to 4-Star restaurants with any type of cuisine. A second card group 530B may include cards 450 that refer to the query domain ("Restaurant") with a query filter ("Rating") and the associated filter value ("3 Stars"). Also, when the user

selects, such as for example, by sweeping a card 450 from the first group 530A of cards, it refers to a particular filter value (eg ("China") for a particular query filter (eg ("Kitchen" ), then later cards 450 of the first group 530A of cards can be modified to refer to Chinese restaurants with a rating of 4 stars and cards of the second group 530B of cards can be modified to refer to Chinese restaurants with a rating of 3 stars. In particular embodiments, the social media system 160 may apply one or more of the previously selected query filters or filter values on the card group 530 that are later displayed. As an example and with no intention of limiting, based on the history of the user who interacts with the cards 450 that refer to a particular query filter (for example, ("Kitchen")), the social media system 160 can calculate the highest card affinity for 450 cards with the same kitchen. In addition, the back card groups 530 may automatically include the cards 450 grouped by the query filter (eg, ("Kitchen"). Although the invention describes modifying the card affinity in a particular way, this invention contemplates modifying the card affinity in any appropriate way.
Figure 11 illustrates an exemplary method 1100 for generating a group of cards. The method can start at step 1110, where the social network system 160 can access a social graph 200 that comprises a plurality of nodes and a plurality of edges 206 connecting the nodes. Nodes can comprise a first node

In particular modalities, each card can include a suggested query, which refers to a query domain associated with the online social network and zero or more query filters for the query domain. In particular embodiments, each query filter can refer to one or more nodes or to one or more edges. In step 1130, the social media system 160 may calculate the card affinity for each card of the plurality of cards relative to the other cards of the plurality of cards. In step 1140, the social media system 160 may generate one or more card groups of the plurality of cards, each card group can include one or more cards, each having a card affinity with respect to the others. cards in the card group that is higher than the card affinity mark. Social-graphical affinity v coefficient
In particular modalities, the social network system 160 can determine the social-graphic affinity (which can be referred to as "affinity") of various social-graphic entities to each other. Affinity can represent the strength of the relationship or the level of interest between particular objects associated with the online social network, such as the users, concepts, content, actions, advertisements, other objects associated with the online social network, or any combination. appropriate of them. Affinity can also be determined with respect to objects associated with third party systems 170 or other suitable systems. You can establish the general affinity for a social-graphic entity for each user, material or content type. The general affinity can be changed based on continuous monitoring of the actions or relationships associated with the social-graphic entity. Although this invention describes determining particular affinities in a particular manner, this invention contemplates determining any suitable affinity in any
IMPI INSTITUTO MUiCAN · DE LA PROPERTY INDUSTRIAL appropriate form.
In particular modalities, the social network system 160 can measure or quantify the social-graphic affinity with the use of an affinity coefficient (which can be referred to here as a "coefficient"). The coefficient can represent or quantify the strength of the relationship between the particular objects associated with the online social network. The coefficient can also represent a probability or function that measures the predicted probability that the user will take a particular action based on the user's interest in the action (or it can be used as an input to calculate that probability). In this way, future user actions can be predicted based on previous user actions, where the coefficient can be calculated, at least in part, on the history of user actions. This predicted probability represented by the coefficient can be different than the probabilities used to mark the search queries or cards described above, it can be used as a factor to calculate those probabilities, or it can be used directly for those probabilities, as appropriate. The coefficients can be used to forecast any number of shares, which can be on or off the online social network. As an example and not intended to limit, these actions may include various types of communication, such as posting messages, submitting content or commenting on content, various types of observation actions, such as accessing or viewing profile pages, media or other appropriate content, various types of matching information about two or more social-graphic entities, such as

Although this invention describes measuring affinity in a particular way, this invention contemplates measuring affinity in any appropriate way.
In particular embodiments, the social media system 160 may use a variety of factors to calculate the coefficient. These factors may include, for example, user actions, types of relationships between objects, location information, other appropriate factors, or any combination thereof. In particular modalities, the different factors can be weighted differently when calculating the coefficient. The weights for each factor can be static or the weights can change based on, for example, user, relationship type, action type, user location, and so on. The rankings for the factors can be combined according to their weights to determine an overall coefficient for the user. As an example and not intended to be limiting, the actions of the particular user may be assigned a rank and weight, while the relationship associated with the particular user action is assigned a rank and correlation weight (for example, for a total 100% weights). To calculate the coefficient of the user towards the particular object, the rating assigned for the user's actions may comprise, for example, 60% of the general coefficient, while the relation between the user and the object may comprise 40% of the general coefficient.
In particular modalities, the social media system 160 may consider a variety of variables when determining weights for various factors used to calculate a coefficient, such as, for example, time since information was accessed, impairment factors, frequency of access, relationship for the information or relationship for the object on which access was had, relationship for the social-graphic entities connected with the object, long- and short-term averages of user actions, user feedback, other appropriate variables, or any combination thereof. As an example and not intended to limit, a coefficient may include a deterioration factor, which causes the strength of the signal provided by particular actions to decay over time, such that the most recent actions are more relevant when calculating the coefficient. The rankings and weights can be continuously updated based on a continuous tracking of the stocks on which the ratio is based. Any type of process or algorithm can be used to assign, combine, average, and so on the rankings for each factor and the assigned weights for the factors. In particular modalities, the social media system 160 can determine the coefficients with the use of machine learning algorithms trained on the historical actions and past responses of the user or the data queried by other users by exposing them to various measurement options and responses. . Although this invention describes calculating coefficients in a particular way, this invention contemplates calculating coefficients in any appropriate way.

In particular modalities, the 160 system of social networks
IMPI • Mexican WTrnrro
Di IA * tOíl®AD INDUSTRIAL can calculate a coefficient based on user actions. The social media system 160 may monitor such actions on the online social network, on a third party system 170, on other appropriate systems, or any combination thereof. Any appropriate type of actions can be tracked or monitored. Typical user actions include viewing profile pages, creating or submitting content, interacting with content, tagging or being tagged in images, joining groups, listing and RSVP for events, entering locations, liking particular pages , create pages, and carry out other tasks that facilitate social action. In particular embodiments, the social media system 160 may calculate a coefficient based on user actions with particular types of content. The content can be associated with the online social network, a third-party system 170, or another appropriate system. Content may include appropriate users, profile pages, emails, news, headlines, instant messages, chat conversations, emails, advertisements, images, video, music, or other objects or any combination thereof. The social media system 160 may analyze the user's actions to determine whether one or more actions indicate affinity for subject matter, content, other users, and so on. As an example and without any intention of limiting, when the user makes frequent post content related to "coffee" or variations thereof, the social network system 160 may determine that the user has a high coefficient with respect to the concept "coffee" . The shares or
<img file="MX349472B_D0048.tif" />
Particular stock types can be assigned a higher weight and / or higher ranking than other stocks, which affects the overall coefficient calculated. As an example and with no intention of limiting, when a first user sends an email to a second user, the weighting or ranking for the action may be higher than when the first user simply views the user's profile page for the second user. .
In particular modalities, the social network system 160 can calculate a coefficient based on the type of relationship between the particular objects. With reference to a social graph 200, the social network system 160 can analyze the number and / or type of edges 206 that connect the user's particular nodes 202 and the concept nodes 204 when calculating the coefficient. As an example and without any intention of limiting, the user's nodes 202 that are connected by a spouse border (which represents that the two users are married) can be assigned with a higher coefficient than the user's nodes 202 that are connected by a friend type edge. In other words, depending on the weights assigned to the actions and relationships for the particular user, the particular affinity may be determined to be higher for content about the user's wife rather than content about the user's friend. In particular embodiments, the relationships that a user has with another object can affect the weights and / or rankings of the user's actions with respect to calculating the coefficient for that object. As an example and without any intention of limiting, when the user is tagged in a first photo, but only likes the segment, ÍQtQ,. „EJ jj ^ topic 160 of social networks can determine that the user has a higher coefficient with respect to the first photo than the second photo, because it has a type relationship tagged with the content, for which it can be assigned a higher weighting and / or classification than the one that has the type relationship I like with the content. In particular embodiments, the social media system 160 may calculate a coefficient for a first user based on the relationship that one or more users have with a particular object. In other words, the connections and coefficients that other users have with an object can affect the first user's coefficient for the object. As an example and not intended to limit, when the first user is connected to or has a higher coefficient for one or more second users and those second users are connected to or have a higher coefficient for a particular object, the network system 160 socials can determine that the first user must have a relatively higher coefficient for the particular object. In particular embodiments, the coefficient may be based on the degree of separation between the particular objects. The lower coefficient may represent the low probability that the first user will share the interest in content objects of the user with whom he is indirectly connected with the first user on the social graph 200. As an example and with no intention of limiting, the social entities that are closer together on the social graph 200 (that is, fewer degrees of separation) may have a higher coefficient than the entities that are further apart on the social graph 200.
<img file="MX349472B_D0049.tif" />
In particular modalities, the social network system 160 can calculate a coefficient based on the location information. Objects that are geographically closer to each other can be considered to be more related or of more interest to each other than objects that are more distant. In particular embodiments, the coefficient of the user towards a particular object may be based on the proximity of the object's location to the current location associated with the user (or the location of the user's client system 130). A first user may be more interested in other users or concepts that are closer to the first user. As an example and without any intention of limiting, when a user is several kilometers from an airport and is further kilometers from a gas station, the social media system 160 may determine that the user has the higher coefficient for the airport than for the gas station, based on the airport's proximity to the user. In particular embodiments, the coefficient of the user towards one or more objects may be based on the geographical proximity of the objects (eg, for the user and / or each other) and the interactions of the user with the objects. By way of example and not intended to be limiting, a pair of geolocations that are visited in sequence by the user, such as for example a nearby restaurant or theater may be considered to be of more interest to each other than unrelated geolocations.
In particular modalities, the social network system 160 can carry out particular actions with respect to the user based on the coefficient information. The coefficients can be used to

A coefficient can be used when any type of object is generated or presented to the user, such as advertisements, search results, news, media, messages, notifications, or other appropriate objects. The coefficient can be used to classify and order such objects, as appropriate. In this way, the social media system 160 can provide information that is relevant to the user's interests and current circumstances, which increases the likelihood that they will find such information of interest. In particular modalities, the social network system 160 can generate content based on the coefficient information. Content objects can be provided or selected based on user-specific coefficients. As an example and without any intention of limiting, the coefficient can be used to generate media for the user, wherein the user can be presented with media for which the user has an overall high coefficient to the media object. As an example and without any intention of limiting, the coefficient can be used to generate advertisements for the user, where the user can be presented with advertisements for which the user has a high overall coefficient with respect to the advertised object. In particular embodiments, the social media system 160 can generate search results based on the coefficient information. In particular embodiments, the social media system 160 may calculate a coefficient in response to a request for a coefficient from a particular system or process. To forecast the likely actions that a user will take (or may be subject to) in a given situation, any process can request a coefficient calculated for the user. The request can also include a set of weights to use for various factors used to calculate the coefficient. This request can come from a process that is carried out on the online social network, from a third-party system 170 (for example, through an API or other communication channel), or from any other suitable system. In response to the request, the social media system 160 can calculate the coefficient (or access the coefficient information that has been previously calculated and stored). In particular modalities, the social network system 160 can measure affinity with respect to a particular process. Different processes (both internal and external for the online social network) can request a coefficient for a particular object or for a group of objects. The social media system 160 may provide an affinity measurement that is relevant to the particular process that requested the affinity measurement. In this way, each process receives the

PE LA PROHSDAC INHISTIIAL social action by the user (such as "liking" a page, "liking" or commenting on a post on a page, RSVPing at an event associated with the page, voting for a question posted on a page, entering a site, using an application or playing a game or "liking" or sharing a website), which the advertiser promotes for example, by having a social action presented within a predetermined area of a user's profile page or other page, presented with additional information associated with the advertiser, consulted or otherwise highlighted within the news feed or ticker of other users or promoted otherwise. The advertiser can pay to have the social action promoted.
In particular modalities, it is possible to request that an advertisement be displayed within the pages of the social network system, third-party network pages or on other pages. An advertisement can be displayed on a dedicated portion of the page, such as in a banner area at the top of the page, in a column on one side of the page, in a GUI of the page, in a pop-up window, in a drop-down menu, in an input field on the page, over the top of the page content, or anywhere else on the page. In addition or as an alternative, an ad can be displayed within an application. An ad can be displayed within dedicated pages, which requires the user to interact with or view the ad before the user can access the page or use the application. For example, the user can view the ad through a web browser.

A user can interact with an ad in any way. The user can click or otherwise select the ad. By selecting the ad, the user can be directed (or the browser or other application used by the user), to a page associated with the ad. On the page associated with the advertisement, the user can take additional actions, such as purchasing a product or service associated with the advertisement, receiving information associated with the advertisement, or subscribing to a newsletter associated with the advertisement. The ad can be an audio or video to be played by selecting the ad component (such as a "play button"). Alternatively, by selecting the advertisement, the social media system 160 may execute or modify a particular user action. As an example and not intended to be limiting, ads may be included in the search results of a search results page, where sponsored content is promoted over non-sponsored content. As an example and not intended to limit, the ads may be included among the suggested search queries, where the suggested queries that refer to the ad or its content / products can be promoted over the unsponsored queries.
An advertisement can include the functionality of the social media system with which the user can interact. For example, an ad may allow the user to “like” or recommend the ad by selecting an icon or link associated with that recommendation. As another example, the ad may allow the user to search (for example, by making a query) for content related to the advertiser. In

Similarly, the user can share the ad with oíry * ur íb ~ TpOT ~ for example, through the social media system 160) or RSVP (for example, through the social media system 160) for an event associated with the ad . In addition or as an alternative, an ad may include user-directed social media system context, for example, an ad may display information about a friend of the user within the social media system 160 who has taken action associated with the matter. of the ad. As an example and not intended to be limiting, a particular place or object that the advertisement wishes to promote can be enhanced or promoted within a card 450 of the group 530 of cards or as a single item card 450 for the user on its classified cards. The ranking of a promoted 450 card can take into account the dynamic offer to displace the "hit" of interest incurred to deploy another 450 card that is potentially less interesting to users. As another example, a 450 sponsored card, not just the sponsored item, can be displayed to the user, for example, a 450 NETFLIX card can correspond to only the content available on NETFLIX or a 450 STARBUCKS card can be a 450 " Nearby Starbucks ”that can be displayed in front of the 450 cards corresponding to“ Nearby Cafes ”.
