Systems and methods for accessing, manipulating and using funds associated with lottery-type games
Abstract
A lottery-type betting method is disclosed. One method utilizes a credit instrument associated with an account established by the customer in the game manager. The credit means may be used to place lottery-type bets at the game terminal, and also for the purchase of goods and/or services, access to additional information displays, or other bets associated with the game manager or venue offering lottery-type bets. It can also be used for non-target areas. The credit instrument acts as a cash substitute, wherein the customer's account may be updated automatically via a network system with all of the customer's wins, failures, and purchases, or may be updated on the credit instrument. In other words, lottery-type bets are placed on an anonymous account, so the identity of the player is not known to the game manager.Credit instruments, lottery-type games, game terminals, anonymous accounts

SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR ACCESSING, MANIPULATING AND USING FUNDS ASSOCIATED WITH LOTTERY-TYPE GAMES
<b>technical field</b>
The present invention relates to systems and methods for accessing, handling, and using funds associated with lottery-type games. In particular, the present invention relates to systems and methods for accessing funds using a credit instrument to place lottery-type bets, and optionally the use of such funds for the purchase of goods, services, or both at a betting facility. It's about use.
<b>background technology</b>
Various conventional lottery-type games allow a player to select one or more groups of numbers to match, for example, a group of numbers generated by a game manager, which may include a game manager, game authority, or some other game operator. do. For example, game managers often offer lottery-type games, often referred to as "Pick-3," in which a player selects three numbers to match equal to a set of three numbers generated by the game manager. do. Another example of a lottery-type game is POWERBALL, which is offered by many states.
In conventional lottery-type games, the player is typically required not only to match a number, but also to match the order in which the numbers are generated. For example, if the player selects the number group "123", and the numbers generated in the lottery-type game draw were "213", the player correctly matches the three numbers because the sequence of the concatenated series of numbers did not match. Even if you do, the play will not be considered as a winning result. In general, the size of the payout for a winning play is balanced by the amount of numbers a player must match to produce a winning outcome. For example, if the game manager offers a high payout, it is usually required for the player to match 6 or 7 numbers. Therefore, in a conventional lottery-type game, the probability of a player winning a jackpot prize other than a relatively small amount of the second prize prize is quite slim, and the player may lose the motivation to continue playing. These high payout lottery-type games typically yield very few winners, which often causes the player to lose interest in the game.
A player typically purchases a lottery-type bet by going to a facility offering the lottery-type game and purchasing the lottery-type bet from a teller or employee operated game terminal located at the facility. Usually, in order to place a lottery-type bet, a cash purchase method is used in which a player pays cash to purchase a lottery ticket. However, with the cash purchase method, no record of the identity of the player who actually purchased the lottery ticket is left. In essence, a lottery ticket is a bearer instrument.
A record of the player's identity, even if the wagered funds and selected numbers are stored or tracked in a lottery-type gaming computer system operatively connected to the game terminal, and a lottery-type game ticket is issued to the player who purchases the lottery-type game wager This is not established, jeopardizing the player holding the lottery ticket. For example, if a lottery ticket is lost or accidentally tampered with, the payable security nature of the ticket holder may cause the player to lose the opportunity to cash the ticket. For example, if a player loses his lottery-type game ticket proving the purchase of a lottery-type bet, the player loses the opportunity to receive his winnings, which results in an unfair transaction. Other risks of the pay-out security nature of lottery ticket holders include the possibility of disputes revolving around a player claiming to have purchased a winning ticket without being able to prove it. Also, since lottery tickets are essentially dispensable securities in anonymous holders, gaming establishments cannot offer any kind of reward program with lottery tickets. The shortcomings of conventional lottery tickets result in player dissatisfaction, unnecessary costs and inconveniences associated with administrative and/or legal hearings, and undesirable negative pressure on lottery managers.
Accordingly, a need exists for a method and system for associating a player with a player's lottery-type game betting activity while maintaining the player's anonymity, a feature favored by many customers seeking confidentiality in betting transactions. . Further, since a small number of players in lottery-type bets win significant amounts of money, a need exists for lottery-type betting methods and systems that provide players with a bonus or other incentive to place a lottery-type bet.
<b>details</b>
In each of the various embodiments of the present invention, the present invention includes lottery-type gaming methods and systems that overcome the shortcomings of conventional lottery-type systems. The various embodiments are non-limiting examples of the invention.
In one embodiment, a lottery-type betting method includes providing a game terminal configured for a player to place a lottery-type bet, and providing the player with an opportunity to deposit funds in an anonymous account. The player may access a portion of the funds in the anonymous account for use in the game terminal, and the player may use the portion of the funds in the anonymous account to place a lottery-type bet on the game terminal on the lottery-type game.
A method of performing a lottery-type gaming activity is disclosed in another embodiment. The method includes providing a game terminal associated with a device for reading a credit instrument, and providing a player an opportunity to associate an anonymous account having a currency value with the credit instrument, wherein the credit instrument accepts the credit instrument. readable by the device for reading. The method also includes providing the player with an additional opportunity to place a lottery-type bet on a lottery-type gaming activity using the credit instrument and the gaming terminal.
In another embodiment, a method of performing a lottery-type gaming activity includes enabling a player to associate a credit instrument with an account of a financial institution and an account of a lottery-type gaming system. Players will also be able to transfer funds between accounts in financial institutions and accounts in lottery-type gaming systems. Subsequent to the transfer of such funds, the player may be able to place a lottery-type wager with the funds associated with the account of the lottery-type game system using the credit means. As a result, the player may lose only a single transaction fee, without losing the multiple transaction fees for each subsequent bet placing that would occur if betting directly from the account of the financial institution. In this way, savings resulting from reduced transaction fees may encourage players to place more bets.
In yet another embodiment, a cashless lottery-type wagering method comprises the steps of: providing a game terminal configured for a player to place a lottery-type wager, the player presenting a credit instrument associated with a currency account to a card reader in communication with the game terminal; enabling the player to access at least a portion of the funds in the currency account for use in the game terminal, and allowing the player to use at least a portion of the funds to place a lottery-type wager at the game terminal. includes
In yet another embodiment, a cashless lottery-type wagering method comprises: entering a unique identifier associated with a currency account via a communication link with a remote computer; allowing a player to access at least a portion of the funds from the currency account; , and enabling a player to place a lottery-type wager over a communication link on an event using at least a portion of the funds.
In yet another embodiment, the present invention includes a method of enabling a cashless lottery-type game, wherein the method provides a tracking capability for use in an incentive program in which a player may accumulate bonus points or prize money based on purchases. Credit instruments may be used, whether anonymous or not, for
In another embodiment, the present invention includes a lottery-type gaming method in which tangible but anonymous securities are presented to a player for placing a lottery-type wager, which is much more robust than conventional paper tickets.
The present invention also includes systems for implementing the lottery-type gaming methods described above.
Various features, advantages, and alternative aspects of the present invention will become readily apparent to those skilled in the art upon consideration of the following detailed description in conjunction with the accompanying drawings.

<b>to practice the invention</b><b> best form(s) for</b>
The drawings illustrate what is presently considered to be the most suitable form for carrying out the present invention.
The present invention includes methods for placing cashless lottery-type bets at a gaming venue. In accordance with the present invention, lottery-type bets may be placed anonymously using credit instruments, anonymous accounts, or a combination thereof. As used herein, the term "credit instrument" refers to house or "frequent-player" cards, such as lottery-type gaming venue issued cards, credit cards, smart cards, debit cards, bank cards, token cards, anonymous Token cards, vouchers, magnetic strips, radio frequency identification transmitters, ATM cards, smart card accounts, integrated house cards/credit/debit cards, tokens/debit cards, prepaid cards, barcodes, arbitrary coded markings, dictionaries any means in your possession (i.e., VISA Card, DISCOVER Card, MASTERCARD Card, AMERICAN EXPRESS Card, STARBUCKS Card, HOME DEPOT Card, Air Miles Program Card, or Driver's License), gift card, or any combination thereof may include, or be associated with, without being limited thereto. The credit means may have a preset amount of money purchased by the player, so that when a player wins, more money may be put into the credit means, where the winning amount can be transferred to another account. "Credit means" may also be used to refer to a device having a unique identifier including, but not limited to, a cell phone, a personal digital assistant (PDA), a virtual address associated with an individual, or any other electronic address. have. The invention also includes using the credit means to access funds from an account associated with the credit means to place lottery-type bets. As used throughout this application, the term "account" includes, but is not limited to, accounts such as credit card accounts, bank accounts associated with debit cards, personal checking accounts, and accounts established in lottery-type game managers. it's not going to be
In one embodiment, a customer may associate a credit instrument with an account in the game manager's system that provides a lottery-type game. The credit instrument is associated with the game manager account established by the player, contains account related information recorded in the credit instrument, and is reusable (ie, the credit instrument may be used more than once per day, more than one day may be used for). In various embodiments, the credit instrument may be associated with a 16 digit account number, a 4 digit default PIN (personal identification number), or password, wherein the numbers may be printed on the back of the credit instrument and may be associated with the credit instrument. may be The 4 digit PIN may have a film covering the 4 digit PIN which may be easily removed by scraping to reveal the 4 digit PIN. When a magnetic strip card is associated with a credit instrument, the magnetic strip may be encoded with a default PIN, and the default PIN may be automatically entered into the system when first used. Thereafter, the PIN may be changed by the player. Accordingly, the instrument of credit may be configured as a bearer payable instrument (ie, cash substitute).
Allowing a player to associate a credit instrument with the purchase of a lottery-type bet allows the player to have a more durable transaction record (i.e., credit instrument) than a lottery ticket (e.g., washing through a washing machine) Reduces the possibility of accidental damage. Also, association of credit instruments with lottery-type bets may help resolve any possible disputes as to which player actually purchased the winning lottery-type bet while that player may still remain anonymous. For example, a credit instrument may provide an audit trail such that other lottery transactions may exist on the credit instrument that players may refer to to help prove proof of ownership. Also, if the player chooses to register a credit instrument in his name with the gaming facility, a firm proof of ownership may be established. Further, in the event that the credit instrument is lost, the assets associated with the credit instrument, and any pending lottery-type bets may be "frozen" and then reissued to the player by the gaming facility upon successful resolution of any verification. it might be
In another embodiment, the player may use any number of transfer means, such as cash, check, debit/credit card charge, direct deposit, transfer from an EFT system, among several other means of transfer, for example in a lottery type. At an employee terminal or self-service terminal located at a location providing the game, funds may be deposited into an account associated with a credit instrument. redemption of funds in the customer's account associated with a credit instrument, which may be redeemed at the employee terminal or may be mailed or presented directly to the game manager for redemption, if the venue does not wish to invest in the employee terminal's PIN pad; A self-service terminal may be used to issue a ticket. Funds from the voucher and winning lottery-type game tickets may be deposited into an account associated with the credit means at a self-service terminal or an employee terminal that reads the credit means. In the event the player's account associated with the credit instrument is depleted of funds, the player may replenish the funds using any one or combination of the methods described above. Also, a player's winnings, losings, and spending expenses may be automatically updated in the player's account by the game administrator. If a player's winnings are eligible for withholding by a tax authority such as the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), the winnings may be flagged by the game administrator and thereafter in the player's account upon completion of the form required by the tax authority. may be credited to
The means of credit may be used to place lottery-type bets, optionally purchase products and/or services at a venue, access additional betting screens, or special access areas (eg, a clubhouse or grandstand area of a stadium or racetrack). can also be used to access Basically, credit instruments act as or may be used as cash substitutes at the location. Various graphics may be used on the credit instrument if desired, where credit instruments are provided by the place to assist with marketing as desired by the place's management.
<b>Anonymous lottery bets</b>
In other embodiments, a means of credit may be associated with a so-called "anonymous" account in which the identity of the player is not known to the game administrator. For example, the player may be provided with an opportunity to associate the credit means with an anonymous account in the lottery-type game system, or to set up an anonymous account using a game terminal of the lottery-type game system. In one embodiment, the player enters an identifying characteristic (ie, the account number on the credit card) or on a device capable of reading the credit means associated with the lottery-type gaming system (ie, the credit card's identity on the debit card). strip) is scanned. When the credit instrument is identified by the lottery-type gaming system, an anonymous account associated with the lottery-type gaming system is established. Anonymous accounts may be identified by lottery-type gaming systems by code or account number, and may optionally be encrypted, and the identity of players who set up anonymous accounts is not readily available to lottery-type gaming systems, making players anonymous. keep Once the anonymous account is established and the player deposits funds in the anonymous account, the player may use the funds in the anonymous account to place a lottery-type wager. Funds in the Anonymous Account may also be used to purchase products and/or services at locations offering lottery-type games or other locations suitably equipped to recognize and process transactions from the Anonymous Account. For security purposes, the player may also associate a password or PIN number with a means of credit, such that in order to access funds in the anonymous account, the password or PIN number must be entered to activate the anonymous account.
In another embodiment, a player may set up an anonymous account in a lottery-type game system without a means of credit. For example, the player may input a unique identifier, such as, for example, a user name, into a game terminal of a lottery-type game system, where the lottery-type game system associates the unique identifier with the anonymous account and identifies the anonymous account with the unique identifier. In other embodiments, the unique identifier may be established using, for example, a biometric device such as a fingerprint scanner. In this way, even if the player does not have a means of credit, the player may deposit funds into an anonymous account, place lottery bets, and access the funds for other purposes (i.e. to purchase goods or services). You may.
The use of anonymous accounts, and the ability to place lottery-type bets, appeals to players who are believed to be more likely to place lottery-type bets if the gaming activity is anonymous. For example, some customers may want to keep their bets secret for cultural or religious reasons. Accordingly, an anonymous account associated with a credit instrument or other proprietary security may be established by the player. For anonymous accounts, players are not required to provide identifying information such as a social security number or name, and are not required to complete an application. In an embodiment, an anonymous account may be set up at a self-service terminal and associated with a credit instrument, where the anonymous account may be accessed with a credit instrument or unique identifier, and funds associated with the anonymous account may be used as cash. In this way, the player can quickly set up an anonymous account and does not need to go to a special location in the game venue to fill out a lengthy application to obtain a means of credit.
The association of an anonymous account with a means of credit or unique identifier is the use of cash or vouchers in that the means of credit may be protected with a security measure, such as, for example, use of a PIN, any other access code, password, or biometric identifier. It has several security advantages compared to Unlike cash or vouchers, which, for example, may be used by someone who finds cash or vouchers if lost, if a means of credit is lost, someone who does not know the PIN, access code, or password will be able to use the credit card. You will not be able to access funds in the anonymous account associated with the means or unique identifier. Anonymous accounts may also be used to combat money laundering, in the sense that, under federal directives to help combat terrorism funding, the amount of money deposited and withdrawn from anonymous accounts may be monitored and limited; If detected by this lottery-type gaming system, the anonymous account may be automatically or manually locked or frozen by the lottery-type gaming system until the anonymous account holder contacts the game manager for reconciliation and/or resolution. may be
Another benefit of an anonymous account is marketing or betting tracking. For example, the customer relationship management (CRM) software of the computer system implementing the anonymous account is configured to track wagering activity associated with the anonymous account while maintaining the player's anonymity, as opposed to the use of cash or coupons. it might be In this way, the CRM may follow and track betting patterns, betting trends, and betting trends that may be used to develop marketing information or programs. Other advantages of an anonymous account include paper-free aspects of credit instruments such as less waste generation, less labor required to set up an account at a venue with a gaming terminal configured for lottery-type games, and cost savings. Also, lottery-type betting terminals may be easier and less expensive to maintain, and may last longer if the printing function is not frequently used or removed entirely. In addition, the game administrator may decide not to substitute any lost, stolen, damaged, or altered credit instrument, with any funds from the credit instrument used without the owner's permission.
The amount of money associated with the credit instrument issued to the player may be a predetermined amount, such as, for example, $20, $30, $40, or $50. The game manager may also sell credit instruments in the form of gift certificates or gift cards to attract customers. In one embodiment, the credit instrument may act as a cash substitute, where you must have a physical credit instrument to repay any cash balance. Also, the credit instrument may be reused, and may be used from one day to the next. If the customer is a member of a "reward" program offered by the game manager, the credit instrument may be associated with a reward program such that each bet placed using the credit instrument accumulates points or other value into the reward program. . Reward points may be used for a variety of different purposes, such as, for example, betting and credit for fulfilling non-betting purposes such as gifts and prizes (consumer goods, air tickets, hotel rooms). In another embodiment, a "reward" program may be associated with an anonymous account such that a player may remain anonymous while accumulating reward points.
In another embodiment, an anonymous account associated with a credit instrument or unique identifier may be upgraded by the customer, wherein the credit instrument provides the game manager with name, address, and any other requested information at the employee terminal or self-service terminal. It may be converted to an "account card" by the customer, or a means of credit may initially be issued to the customer as an account card. In case the anonymous account associated with the credit instrument or unique identifier is upgraded, the customer may continue to use the same credit instrument as the account card or the game administrator may issue another replacement card. In this embodiment, the account house card may be automatically configured to record reward points for each lottery-type bet placed using the funds associated with the account card. Funds may also be transferred by direct deposit between the account associated with the customer's account card and his bank account. Account house cards may also provide an additional level of security to the owner because the owner's identity is known. Accordingly, an account associated with an account house card may be immediately frozen and/or replaced by a game administrator in the event that the house card is lost, stolen, or accidentally damaged.
In a further embodiment, the means of credit may also be so-called "super cards", including integrated prepaid cards and debit/credit cards. That is, the SuperCard may be used as both a house card and a debit/credit card with an associated account set up in the game manager. In one particular aspect of the SuperCard useful for marketing by the Game Manager, when the SuperCard's debit/credit card function is used for a purchase, the reward points formally calculated based on the purchase price will be credited to an account established with the Game Manager. may be For example, if a customer uses the SuperCard as a debit or credit card to purchase groceries, a certain percentage of the price of the groceries will be credited to the account (ie, the House Card portion) associated with the SuperCard's game manager. may be The house card portion of the supercard may be set up to be used only with the game manager for certain uses, such as lottery-type betting. Funds from different portions of the SuperCard (ie, the debit or credit card portion and the house card portion) may be transferred between each other. In another embodiment, an account associated with a credit instrument may also accumulate points for betting, wherein the points may be converted to a cash balance and transferred to another portion or account associated with the credit instrument.
When the player quits the game, or at any other time authorized under the rules set by the game administrator, any balance associated with the means of credit or unique identifier may be transferred to, withdrawn from, or the balance of the player's bank account. It may remain in the account associated with this credit instrument or unique identifier. The player may withdraw the balance on the credit means from any employee terminal or self-service terminal at the location providing the lottery-type game. The player may also have a voucher issued by the self-service terminal of the venue, which can be redeemed later by mail or at the staff terminal. If the balance is maintained in an account associated with a credit instrument or unique identifier, an administrative fee may be deducted by the game administrator from the balance remaining after a period of non-use (eg, 12 months).
<b>Interoperability of financial networks and credit instruments</b>
Both the player and the game manager want to use a single credit instrument to place lottery-type bets and also to make purchases that are not bets (ie, to purchase goods or services). Accordingly, in yet a further embodiment, a credit instrument is associated with multiple accounts with separate balances. In one embodiment, the means of credit is linked to a player's account or balance of a financial institution via a financial network (eg, a bank or credit card company), and a player's account or balance associated with a closed-loop system, such as a lottery-type gaming system, for example. related The financial network balance may be, for example, a credit limit on a credit card or an amount of money in an account associated with a debit card. A balance associated with a closed-loop system may be an amount of money credited to or transferred from another account, such as an account associated with a financial network balance, and in other embodiments, a balance associated with a closed-loop system may be a balance as described herein. It may be due to an anonymous account. In one embodiment, the closed loop system is the computer system 602 indicated by the dashed line in FIG. 7 . In still other embodiments, the credit instrument may be associated with another or additional account or balance.
With the credit means 604 of FIG. 7 , the player transfers funds between a first account accessible by the player and associated with a financial network balance and a second account accessible by the player and associated with a balance in the computer system 602 . To make a transfer, it becomes possible to use an input device of the computer system 602 , such as, for example, a cash register 606 or a game terminal 608 associated with the computer system 602 . For example, at the beginning of the day, a player at a venue offering a lottery-type game may have a $100 balance on a first account associated with the financial network, and a $0 balance on a second account associated with computer system 602 . A player may use an input device associated with computer system 602 to transfer funds from a first account balance associated with the financial network to a second account balance associated with the closed loop system. In this way, the player will be able to transfer $50 from a first account associated with the financial network balance to a second account associated with the closed loop system, so that one or more lottery-type bets at the game venue without losing multiple money transfer fees may access the transferred $50 to increase the balance of a second "account" associated with the closed loop system to bet or purchase. Otherwise, the remaining $50 balance of the first account associated with the financial network may be used to purchase other goods or services at the venue, such as food from an on-premises kiosk, such as, for example, having a vendor terminal networked to the financial server 610 . In other embodiments, the player may access multiple accounts associated with a credit instrument and transfer funds between the multiple accounts remotely, such as via a phone-based system or remotely via the Internet.
Using credit means 604 associated with multiple accounts and their associated balances, players may place lottery-type bets and purchase other goods or services, such as vouchers, with a single credit instrument. The credit means 604 is also reusable, so that the credit means 604 may be used more than once and on more than one day during the day. Players can also make "bulk" transfers of funds from the financial network to the closed-loop computer system 602 and vice versa, on a per-transaction basis (i.e., each time they access a balance on the financial network, You can avoid any financial network charges that could cost you a service fee) or lose dollar-based costs. In addition, the use of multiple balances associated with the credit means 604 can be used for the last minute without the player needing to connect to the financial server 610 as the funds to be used already exist in the player's account in the closed loop computer system 602 . Or you can place lottery-type bets in the last second. Thus, the lottery-type wager, and particularly the last minute wager, is more encouraged as it increases player satisfaction by eliminating the possibility of failing to establish and maintain a connection between the closed-loop computer system 602 and the financial server 610 while the wager is being attempted. and is believed to be done.
In yet another embodiment, a credit instrument may be associated with a marketing program to provide incentives to players having the credit instrument to use the credit instrument and earn credit for placing lottery-type bets. For example, where the credit means is a credit or debit card, an account associated with the credit means such that when the credit means is used to make a purchase to a first account associated with the financial network, a deposit is made to a second account associated with the closed loop system. may be set. In this way, whenever a player uses a means of credit to make a purchase, a specified amount of funds (eg, such as a percentage of the value of the purchase) or a reward points calculated by the formula is transferred to a second associated balance in the closed-loop system. It is automatically deposited or credited to the "Account". For example, when making a purchase with a player's DISCOVER credit card, the player's DISCOVER credit card is configured such that the DISCOVER credit card is credited or credited to the balance of a second account associated with the closed-loop system based on the level or amount of purchases used. could be In this way, when a player uses a credit instrument to purchase a license, item, or service at a venue or other location offering a lottery-type game, the player may obtain credit or funds for a lottery-type wager. Further, in order to provide an additional incentive for the player to use the credit instrument associated with the multiple accounts, the player can, for example, by spending money from the first account for other goods or services associated with or sponsored by the game manager. , you may receive extra or bonus credits for using your credit instrument to make certain purchases. In another embodiment, the second account and associated balance of the closed loop system may be an account specific to a venue offering a lottery-type game, or a specific venue associated with a specific company or other sponsor.
In another embodiment, the credit instrument may be used locally at a venue offering a lottery-type game. The credit means may be used in the game terminal, or may be used, for example, in a cash register configured to read the credit means. A player's account information and balance may be accessed from a computer system if the information is included in the computer system, or may be accessed from an off-site financial server or similar device. The credit instrument may also be used abroad, such as a cash register configured to read the credit instrument, a foreign ATM, or a gaming terminal at another location. The account associated with the credit instrument may also be used to place bets and purchase goods and/or services via the Internet or phone.
<b>lottery game system</b>
Referring to FIG. 1A , a lottery-type game system 100 is illustrated in the form of a block diagram, in which the lottery-type game system 100 of the present invention described herein may be implemented. The lottery-type game system 100 includes a player or teller interface 109, a microprocessor 106 with associated memory and software, a network interface device 104 with associated software, and a printer 123 if desired. It may include a lottery-type game terminal 102 . The lottery-type game terminal 102 comprises a device 114 for reading credit means (optionally used in connection with the secondary identifier input device 113 ), an input device 110 , and a display 112 . may have a housing (not shown) that supports a player or teller interface 109 . In one embodiment, the device for reading the credit means is a card reader where the credit means is a card. In other embodiments, the device for reading the credit instrument is any device capable of recognizing a unique identifier associated with the credit instrument, or if an anonymous account is set up without a credit instrument, the device will allow the player or teller to use the user name or an input device for inputting a unique identifier, such as a biometric scanner recognizable feature (ie, fingerprint). If desired, the secondary identifier input device 113 may be integrated with the device 114 for reading the credit means. The microprocessor 106 and its associated memory and software are in electrical communication and operatively coupled to the network interface device 104 . The network interface device 104 is operatively connected via a telephone line, cable line, or other suitable secure connection to the game manager computer system 116 , which may include a database of player accounts. The game manager computer system 116 may be located at the game manager's headquarters or other secure location. Such a computer system may be configured to store the player's account information and balance.
The player or teller interface 109 is in electrical communication and operatively connected with the microprocessor 106 and allows the player to transfer funds to and from the player's account on the game manager computer system 116 . It provides the necessary mechanism for initiation. The device 114 for reading the credit means of the player or teller interface 109 is configured to read encoded information on the credit means. Optionally, the credit means may include a button arrangement, key for an additional security measure to assist in verifying the player's identity and account, such as a microchip embedded smart card, a personal identification number (PIN) or other code entry. , a unique secondary identifier input device 113 such as a fingerprint imaging device, retina scan, or other biometric device. By using the device 114 to read the credit instrument, the game manager may not need to use a paper ticket reader. Compared to the conventional paper ticket reader currently used by most game managers, the device 114 for reading credit instruments is cheaper and more reliable. Conventional paper ticket readers often have problems reading damaged paper tickets, creating customer dissatisfaction and incorrect ticket rejections. Also, credit instruments, which may be made from materials such as plastic, are much more durable than conventional paper tickets, which are easily damaged by bites and handling.
Display 112 may include a display such as a liquid crystal display (LCD), an LCD touch screen, a plasma display, a field emission display (FED), or may use any other suitable display technology known to those skilled in the art. Under the control of microprocessor 106 , display 112 displays information regarding the transfer of funds from the game manager's player's account. Such information may include, for example, a prompt to enter a personal identification number, a notice that the transfer of funds has been authorized, the amount of the authorized transfer, and the player's account balance.
The input device 110 may include, for example, a keypad, control buttons, a touch display, a joy stick, a touch screen, or a combination thereof. The input device 110 allows the player or teller to place a lottery-type bet by allowing the player or teller to select the outcome of an event in which the bet is in progress.
The lottery-type game terminal 102 may be connected to the lottery-type game terminal ( 102 ) may be configured with a network interface device 104 including components such as ports, cable connections, and/or network cards for linking the lottery-type game manager computer system 116 . If necessary or desired, encrypted communication may be used for additional security. Although only a single lottery-type game terminal 102 is shown in FIG. 1 , a plurality of lottery-type game terminals 102 may be connected to the game manager computer system 116 (eg, a central server) using such a network. As shown in FIG. 1B , the lottery-type game manager computer system 116 is also configured to make electronic funds transfers, such as via a telephone line or cable line connection, to make payments by credit means such as credit/debit cards. transfer (EFT) system 120 . The EFT system 120 is then operatively connected to the credit/debit card issuance system 122 using a cable line or telephone line. As shown in FIG. 1C , in another system for implementing the methods of the present invention using credit means, the game manager computer system 116 will not store the player's account information and balance. Instead, the game manager computer system 116 may be operatively coupled to a financial server 121 that stores the player's account balance and associated account information, at a location separate from the game manager computer system 116 . In addition, in order for the present invention to manage and store the player's account information and account balance, People Soft<sp>TM</sp>This includes, of course, the use of commercially available customer relationship management (CRM) systems such as The CRM system may be used in conjunction with the game manager computer system 116 , or may be used in conjunction with the game manager computer system 116 and a foreign computer server in communication with the computer server 118 .
On the premises of a facility where the device 117 for reading credit means, optionally having a secondary identifier input device 113 (not shown) associated with the device 117 for reading credit means, provides for the purchase of lottery-type game tickets. It may be located at a kiosk, entrance, or special access area, and via a computer server 118 , the game manager computer system 116 , the EFT system 120 , or a financial server, as illustrated in FIGS. 1A-1C , respectively. It may communicate with (121).
2A includes a process flow diagram illustrating one method of practicing the present invention, the method comprising a gaming facility such as, for example, a lottery retail facility, a horse or dog racetrack, a jai alai fronton, or a casino, or Use of credit instruments as a cash substitute for purchases of goods and/or services and lottery-type bets at resorts, sports venues, airports, or other venues such as shopping centers. In one embodiment, the method includes using a credit instrument to enable a player to participate in a lottery-type gaming activity. The method will be described with reference to FIGS. 1A and 1C . Prior to step 202A, the player may place a lottery-type bet, purchase products and/or services, access additional betting screens, and/or secure such as a clubhouse at a gaming facility, an airline club, or a grandstand suite at a stadium. He may have already used his credit instrument to get tickets to the realm. The purchase of a product or a lottery-type wager may be effected with different identifiers associated with the credit instrument. For example, a credit instrument may be associated with two or more identifiers, such as, for example, a card number, magnetic strip, or barcode. Examples of products or services available for purchase at a gaming facility or other location may include, but are not limited to, food, beverage, parking, and admission tickets, and may include many others. Next, in step 204A, the lottery-type game terminal 102 located in the employee terminal or the self-service terminal checks whether the player has inserted the credit means into the device 114 for reading the credit means of the lottery-type game terminal 102 . to detect If the lottery-type game terminal 102 does not have the device 114 for reading the means of credit, the player's account information is manually entered into the player or teller interface 109 using a keypad or other suitable interface device. it might be Optionally, for security purposes, the player enters a secondary identifier, such as a personal identification number (PIN), which is entered into the keypad, into the player or teller interface 109 via the secondary identifier input device 113, or to be accessed. a smart card with an embedded microchip for an added security measure to help verify the player's identity to the account, an electronic button for entry of a code such as a PIN in the player or teller interface 109, a fingerprint imaging device; Using a retinal scan, or other type of biometric device, step 206A may be required. A player may also be allowed to change his PIN using the player or teller interface 109 . If the player changes his PIN, the lottery-type game terminal 102 may be programmed to require the player to enter a new PIN whenever the credit means is used. Referring again to FIG. 2A , after step 204A or 206A, in step 208A, the player's account information associated with the credit instrument, such as a unique identification number, is transmitted to the game manager computer system 116 . In step 210A, game manager computer system 116 or financial server 121 accesses the player's account information associated with the credit instrument. Step 210A may also occur without the player entering the desired amount of playing credits. Instead, the lottery-type game terminal 102 interface software may automatically generate a request for the amount of credit to the player's account. In the case where the system of FIG. 1C is used, the player's account information and balance is not stored in the game manager computer system 116, and the game manager computer system 116 finances a request to access the player's account information and balance. Forward to server 121 . In step 212A, the player's account information associated with the credit instrument is automatically transferred from the game manager computer system 116 directly to the lottery-type game terminal 102 when the system of FIG. 1A is used, and the system of FIG. 1C When used, it is automatically transferred by way of a detour via the financial server 121 . If the player's account balance includes a positive balance, in step 214A, the funds are made available for the player to use in the lottery-type game terminal 102 .
Optionally, in order to prevent the player from leaving his credit means in the lottery-type game terminal 102, the lottery-type game terminal 102 is required to remove his credit means in step 216A before the player places a lottery-type bet. Software may be programmed. In step 218A, the player participates in an event (eg, a lottery or draws) using the player interface 109 of the lottery-type game terminal 102 , which may optionally be linked to a player input device 110 . place a bet Following placing of the lottery-type wager, in step 219A, funds may be automatically deducted from the player's account. Optionally, when the lottery-type game terminal 102 is equipped with the printer 123, the player may receive a printed receipt recording the lottery-type bet placed.
After the end of the lottery-type betting event, in step 220A, the results are automatically sent to the game manager computer system 116 and, if necessary, a financial server that updates the player's account information via the game manager computer system 116 ( 121) is forwarded. That is, after the lottery-type event in which the player wagered is completed, the player's account balance is updated so that the winnings are added to the account balance. In step 221A, which may occur concurrently or after step 220A, subsequent to the outcome of the lottery-type bet, the outcome of the lottery-type bet, the player's account balance, or both, is transmitted to the player via text messaging to the player's pager, cellular phone may be sent, or an email may be sent to the player's email address. After placing the player 's lottery-type wager, in step 222A, the player uses his credit means at the device 117 for reading the credit means to wager on different additional events at the venue, products and/or services may optionally continue to use the means of credit for further purposes. Any balance remaining in the account associated with the credit means may also be withdrawn for cash at the employee terminal, or a coupon may be issued at a self-service terminal at a location equipped with a device 117 for reading the credit means, or for redemption. For this reason, the means of credit may be mailed to the game manager or presented directly. The remaining balance may also be transferred by direct deposit into the player's bank account. Any remaining balance may also be left in the account associated with the credit instrument so that the player may reuse the credit instrument at a later time. The purchase of goods and/or services at the premises and the use of credit means for further purposes may be made at the premises of the kiosk of goods and services using the device 117 for reading the credit means allowing purchases made by credit means. may be done by Again, after each subsequent lottery-type wager or purchase of goods and/or services, the player's account information may be automatically updated on the computer system 116 . In the event the account associated with a credit instrument is depleted of funds, or if the player desires additional funds, the player may use cash, check, or credit/debit card at any employee terminal or self-service terminal that accepts such payment. You can also add funds to your account. The employee terminal or self-service terminal will be located at a location having a device 117 for reading a credit means, allowing the player to add funds to an account associated with the credit means by credit/debit card, check, cash, etc. may be
