Abstract
The package of the present invention is made of a cardboard blank with crease lines, a wall panel (1), a bottom flap (2) forming the bottom of the package, and an upper end of the package and a top flap 3 folded together so as to be heat sealed and having a short side flap 3A and a long side flap 3B. One of the long flaps is provided at its free end with a sealing tab 4, which is provided with a heat sealing adhesive and is sealed against the opposite long flap. This sealing tab has a length less than the width of the package so that it can be lowered into the upper end of the package for resealing.Packages, fold lines, heat seal adhesives, sewing stitches, lift tabs

The present invention is made of a cardboard blank with crease lines, a wall panel, a bottom flap forming the bottom of the package, and extending continuously over the entire width of the package. A package comprising a top flap having two long-side flaps and two short-side panels, the top flap being folded to form an upper end of the package and heat-sealed together; The package may be of a gable top type or a parallelepipedical type.
Dry foodstuffs, such as cereal, wheat and oatmeal, are often packaged in cardboard box packages of gable top type or parallelepiped type. For a variety of reasons, it is common to make cardboard of waste fibres and to package the food product in, for example, an inner bag of plastic, which keeps the food product in good condition until the bag is opened and the food product is Avoid contact with recycled cardboard.
At present, coated cardboard materials made of virgin fibers have emerged, which are lighter than conventional materials, completely seal essentially dry materials, and do not impart any taste or odor to the packaged product. In this way, if the package can be hermetically sealed, the dry food product can be packaged directly into the package without any inner bag.
A problem with hermetically sealed packages is that they can be difficult to open and reseal after use.
This problem can be solved according to the present invention, wherein one of the long flaps is provided with a sealing tab at its free end, said sealing tab being a heat sealing adhesive for sealing to the opposite wall panel or the opposite long flap. A heat seal adhesive is provided and has a length shorter than the width of the package to be lowered into the upper end of the package for resealing.
In order to provide easy access to this sealing tab, according to the invention, a lift tab may be provided at the free end of the sealing tab.
The design according to the invention makes it possible to use as sealing means a sealing tab inserted between one of the long flaps and the short flaps. Even after the first opening of the package, moisture and harmful animals can be kept out.
The present invention will be described below in more detail with reference to the accompanying drawings.
1 and 2 are perspective views of a first embodiment of a package according to the invention, respectively showing a semi-finished form and a finished form;
3 and 4 are views similar to FIGS. 1 and 2 of a second embodiment;
Packages according to the present invention are typically made of coated cardboard, preferably made of virgin fiber, which is a prerequisite to enable the storage of foodstuffs in the package without the need for any inner bag or the like. The cardboard material may comprise different layers, for example a barrier layer of EVOH. The coating may be, for example, polyethylene. The cardboard material is preferably hermetic for dry materials.
A cardboard blank is first cut and folded and sealed along the side edges in a conventional manner to form a semi-finished package open at both ends as shown in FIG. 1 . It is evident that such a package has a wall panel 1 , a bottom flap 2 and a top flap 3 (flaps 3A and 3B to be described).
The bottom flap 2 is then folded in a conventional manner and, for example, heat sealed to form a tight bottom as illustrated in the lower part of FIG. 2 .
The package is now ready to be stuffed, preferably with a dry food product such as cereal, wheat or oatmeal.
After that, the top of the package is sealed. In a conventional manner, the two short-side flaps 3A are folded along the fold line, and the two long-side flaps 3B are heat-sealed by contacting each other to form a hermetic upper end.
One of the long flaps 3B, located behind in FIG. 1 , has a sealing tab 4 and a lift tab 5 integral with the long flap, but preferably separated by a fold line. A heat sealing adhesive is applied to the sealing tab 4, the two tabs 4 and 5 are folded down over the entire upper end of the package, and the sealing tab 4 is heated to the opposite long side flap 3B. Sealed, a so-called gable top package as shown in FIG. 2 is formed.
To initially open the package, the sealing tab 4 is lifted by the lift tab 5, so that the seal provided by the heat sealing adhesive is broken, and the long flap 3B pours out the contents of the package. It can be pulled off to the required extent.
An important aspect of this design is that after each opening, the package can be resealed by pushing the tabs 4 and 5 downward between the opposite long side flaps 3B and the folded short side flaps 3A.
3 and 4 show a parallelepiped package instead of the gable top package of FIGS. 1 and 2 . The package also has a wall panel 11 , a bottom flap 12 , and a top flap 13 . From the stage shown in FIG. 3 , the bottom flap 12 is folded in a conventional manner and heat sealed to form a hermetic bottom, for example as shown in the lower part of FIG. 4 .
After filling, the top end of the package is sealed. In a conventional manner, the two short side flaps 13A are folded along their fold line, and the upper part of the long side flap 13B (here separated from the remainder of the flap by the fold line) is brought into contact with each other and , heat-sealed to form a hermetic top.
The sealing tab 14 formed on the rear long side flap 13B is provided with a heat sealing adhesive. The upper end is folded downward, and the sealing tab 14 is sealed to the upper portion of the front wall panel 11 by heating, so that the parallelepiped package shown in FIG. 4 is formed.
The package can be opened by lifting the lift tab 15 and, after opening, resealed as described with reference to FIGS. 1 and 2 .
