Thermoplastic resin composition and prevention of deterioration

PURPOSE:To prevent the deterioration of resins due to heat and ultraviolet ray with simple and inexpensive means, by incorporating hydrotalcites into the resins contg. halogen and an acidic material. CONSTITUTION:Thermoplastic resins such as polystyrene, polyacrylate, polymethacrylate are prepd. by using a catalyst contg. an acidic material such as sulfuric acid and/or halogen such as boron trifluoride, stannic chloride. Thus, these resins contain halogen and/or the acidic material. Molds are corroded by the halogen and the acidic mateiral contained in these resins at the time of molding. The deterioration of molded article due to heat and ultraviolet ray is caused by the halogen and the acidic material. In order to improve the properties of the resins from about 0.1- 5wt.pts. of hydrotalcites having a specified crystalline particle state and a surface area of below 30m<2>/g, pref. 20m<2>/g as determined by BET method is mixed with 100wt.pts. of the thermoplastic resin by ribbon mixer, high speed mixer, kneader, etc.
