The present invention generally relates to an improved tampon or tampon applicator, and more particularly to a tampon applicator with an outer cylinder having a reverse taper to improve ease of use and user comfort. Regarding.
A commercially available tampon applicator typically has an outer cylinder and a plunger used to extrude an absorbent cotton sprinkle housed therein. The outer cylinder portion is typically divided into three portions, that is, a finger grip portion, an insertion tip portion, and a main body portion arranged between the finger grip portion and the insertion tip portion.
The finger grip typically has the same diameter as the main body of the outer cylinder, but in some designs (eg Playtex and Gentle Glide) it has a smaller diameter to improve grip. Has. The main body is typically linear, except for the outer cylinder, which is molded with a slightly tapered plastic to improve its release properties from the manufacturing mold. The insertion tip of some types of outer cylinders has a "petal" (ie, a rounded tip) that covers and curves around the cotton extruded yarn contained within the outer cylinder, but cotton. When the thread is extruded from the insertion tip, it easily bends outward.

To provide a department.

Another object of the present invention is to provide an ergonomic tampon applicator with a plunger having at least one flared end.

These and other objectives and advantages of the present invention will be recognized by the ergonomically modified tampon applicator of the present invention having a plunger and an outer cylinder. The outer cylinder portion has four portions, that is, a finger grip portion, a reverse taper portion, a main body portion, and an insertion tip portion. The reverse taper portion is tapered toward the finger grip portion. The main body is tapered in the opposite direction toward the insertion tip. The maximum diameter portion is formed in the outer cylinder portion where the reverse taper portion and the main body portion come into contact with each other. This maximum diameter provides the user with a sensory indication to inform the user when the applicator has been inserted into the vagina to a suitable depth.

With reference to the drawings, in particular FIG. 1, an ergonomically modified tampon applicator 10 according to the present invention is shown. This ergonomically modified applicator 10 is easy to use and more convenient to insert and remove. The applicator 10 has a plunger 12 and an outer cylinder portion 14.
The outer cylinder portion 14 can be divided into four parts, whereas the conventional tampon applicator is typically divided into three parts. These four parts have a finger grip portion 16, a reverse taper portion 18, a main body portion 20, and an insertion tip portion 22.
The finger grip 16 is defined by a front end ridge 24 and a rear end ridge 26. The anterior end ridge 24 provides a stable grip when inserting the applicator 10 into the vaginal fornix. The rear end ridge 26 provides a stable gripping surface when extruding cotton-removed yarn (not shown) and when pulling the applicator 10 out of the body. The front end ridge 24 and the rear end ridge 26 are about 6 mm to about 22 mm in diameter. The front end ridge 24 and the rear end ridge 26 preferably have a diameter of about 11 to about 17 mm, most preferably about 14 mm.
A finger receiving region 28 is formed between the front end ridge 24 and the rear end ridge 26. The front end ridge 24 and the rear end ridge 26 are separated by about 13 mm to 40 mm to ensure an area suitable for receiving one or more fingers of the user. The front end ridge 24 and the rear end ridge 26 are more preferably separated by about 17 mm to about 21 mm, and most preferably about 19 mm apart. The finger receiving region 28 may be concave, convex, flat, or a predetermined combination thereof. The finger receiving area 28 is preferably a concave surface that matches the outer shape of the user's finger. The maximum diameter of the finger receiving region 28 is preferably slightly smaller than the diameters of the ridges 24 and 26 at both ends. Region 28 preferably has a ratio of maximum diameter to minimum diameter of about 1.10 to about 1.75, more preferably about 1.25 to about 1.35.
The finger grip area 28 may also have one or more grip structures 46 to improve the grip of the applicator 10. A suitable gripping structure 46 may be, for example, an embossed portion, a raised portion, a slit, a groove, a perforated portion, a louver, a lance, an adhesive, a highly wettable humidity friction coefficient material, a pressure sensitive adhesive portion, or a predetermined portion thereof. It has one or more, preferably two or more of the combinations. Further, the gripping structure 46 may include, for example, arcuate, circular, concave, conical, convex, rhombic, linear, elliptical, polygonal, rectangular, ribbed, square, triangular, and predetermined combinations thereof. Can be formed into a predetermined shape including.
The maximum diameter portion 34 of the outer cylinder portion 14 of the applicator is located at the front end portion of the reverse taper portion 18. Reverse taper means having a taper attached in the opposite direction, i.e., away from the insertion end of the applicator 10, which taper does not necessarily have to be the same dimension as the main body 20. The diameter of the reverse taper portion 18 decreases toward the front end ridge 24 and is equal to or slightly smaller than the diameter of the front end ridge 24. This taper may be linear or curved.
The maximum diameter portion 34 of the outer cylinder portion 14 applies a slightly larger pressure to the vaginal opening than the minimum diameter portion of the outer cylinder portion. Its unique properties of the outer tube 14 provide a way for the user to sensuously signal or indicate that the applicator 10 has been inserted into the vagina to the correct depth. Thus, the position of the maximum diameter portion 34 in the length direction of the outer cylinder portion 14 is one of the important problems of the present invention. The position of the maximum diameter portion 34 in the outer cylinder portion 14 is about 32 mm to about 54 mm from the front end portion 36 of the insertion tip portion 22 in the axial direction of the outer cylinder portion 14. The maximum diameter portion 34 is preferably located about 40 mm to about 50 mm, more preferably about 44 mm from the front end portion 36 of the insertion tip portion 22 in the axial direction of the outer cylinder portion 14.
The main body portion 20 is connected to the reverse taper portion 18, and the maximum diameter portion 34 of the outer cylinder portion 14 is located here. Since the main body portion 20 is linear or curved and becomes smaller toward the insertion tip portion 22, its minimum diameter portion is located where the main body portion 20 contacts the insertion tip portion 22. .. The ratio of the maximum diameter portion 34 to the diameter of the front end portion 38 of the main body portion 20 is about 1.1 to about 1.5, more preferably about 1.2 to about 1.3. This tapering of the main body 20 increases insertion comfort by gradually dividing the vulva-vaginal channel over the longer length direction as well as the insertion tip 22.
The insertion tip 22 starts from a place where there is a substantial change in the curvature of the front end of the outer cylinder, where a petal 40 surrounding the cotton-removed yarn is formed. In the petal-free applicator design, the insertion tip 22 is the front end of the main body 20 of the outer cylinder 14. The preferred insertion tip 22 is a type of petal having a curvature close to an elliptical or hyperbolic curve. The insertion tip 22 preferably has about 2 to about 12 petals, more preferably about 3 to about 8 petals. The ratio of the maximum diameter of the insertion tip 22 (the diameter of the surface whose rear end contacts the front end 38 of the main body 20) to the axial overall length of the insertion tip along the horizontal axis of the applicator 10 is , from about 0.9 to about 1.8, more preferably not about 1.1 about 1.3 to.
This relatively gentle curvature of the insertion tip 22 may further increase the comfort of the insertion by gradually dividing the vulva-vaginal channel along its length direction.
The outer cylinder portion 14 of the tampon applicator of the present invention is shown to have four portions, namely a finger grip portion, a reverse taper portion, a main body portion, and an insertion tip portion, but the outer cylinder portion of the tampon applicator. It will be appreciated that the portion may have a reverse taper portion and a finger grip portion, a main body portion, an insertion tip portion, or at least one additional portion selected from a combination thereof.
The inner wall of the outer cylinder portion 14 accommodating the cotton-removed yarn may have the same general side wall shape as the outer wall. However, when molding a complicated inner wall or the like, a complicated manufacturing process is required. Alternatively, while the outer wall has the cross-sectional shape described above, the inner wall may actually be a straight wall (even a slight taper may require the release of tool toolwork), thereby forming a mold. The process can be simplified.
Referring to FIGS. 2 and 3, the outer cylinder portion 14 has a finger grip portion 42. The plunger 12 is nested in the finger gripping end 42 of the outer cylinder 14. The plunger 12 has a diameter slightly smaller than the minimum diameter of the finger gripping region 28 so that the plunger 12 fits perfectly in the outer cylinder portion 14 in a nested manner. Preferably, in one embodiment of the invention, the plunger 12 has a diameter of about 4 mm to about 18 mm. The plunger 12 more preferably has a diameter of about 5 mm to about 9 mm, and most preferably has a diameter of about 7 mm.
The plunger 12 has a first spreading portion 32 at its tip and a holding structure 48 at its opposite outer cylinder end 52. The finger grip portion 16 has a plunger receiving end portion 30. The plunger receiving end portion 30 of the finger grip portion 16 has a chamfered portion 44 for receiving the first spreading portion 32 of the plunger 12 when extruding the cotton-removed yarn. As a result, the entire length of the portion of the plunger 12 protruding from the outer cylinder portion 14 can be used for the nested operation, so that the length of the protruding portion can be shortened. This can result in better ergonomic applicators. In such an ergonomic applicator, the distance between the finger grip 16 and the first spread 32 on which the fingertips are placed is shortened to the same extent as the length of the first spread 32. It can be used with one hand. The second spreading portion, that is, the holding structure 48, of the outer cylinder end portion 52 of the plunger 12 prevents the plunger from separating from the outer cylinder portion 14.
The first spread 32 has a maximum diameter of about 6 mm to about 22 mm. This maximum diameter is preferably from about 12 mm to about 16 mm, most preferably from about 13 mm, in order to provide a fixed area for the user's fingertips when extruding the cotton-removed yarn. The rear end of the first spread 32 may be flat, concave, or convex. This rear end is preferably concave in order to provide a fixed area to the fingertips.
The second spread 48 has a maximum diameter of about 5 mm to about 20 mm. This maximum diameter is preferably about 11 mm to about 14 mm, most preferably about 13 mm, in order to prevent the plunger from moving away from the outer cylinder portion 14.
The cross-sectional shape of the plunger 12 and the outer cylinder portion 14 has been suggested to be circular by the use of the term "diameter", but this cross-sectional shape may be non-circular, such as elliptical or polygonal. Will be understood. Further, this cross-sectional shape may vary along the length directions of both the plunger 12 and the outer cylinder portion 14. For example, a circular plunger may be made that has a polygonal finger grip and an elliptical main body.
The cotton-removed yarn housed by the outer cylinder portion 14 of the applicator has a tapered front end corresponding to the shape of the insertion tip 22. The machined taper maintains the petal 40 so that it does not lose its shape when the applicator 10 is inserted, increasing comfort. In addition, when extruding the cotton removal thread from the applicator 10, the tapered tip of the cotton removal thread gradually divides the vaginal channel, increasing user comfort.
Suitable materials for forming the plunger 12 and / or the outer cylinder 14 are, for example, biopolymers, cardboard, heat-shrinkable plastics, paper slurries, plastics, plastic tubulars, pulp slurries, pulp castings, and predetermined materials thereof. Including combinations of.
The plunger 12 and / or the outer cylinder portion 14 can be coated with a coating material to reduce friction and / or increase strength. Suitable coating materials include, for example, cellophane, cellulose, epoxies, lacquers, nitrocellulose, nylon, plastics, polyesters, polylactides, polyolefins, polyvinyl alcohols, polyvinyl chlorides, silicones, waxes, and predetermined combinations thereof.
The above description and drawings are merely examples of the present invention and are not limited to the embodiments that disclose the present invention. Modifications and variations apparent to those skilled in the art are intended to fall within the scope and properties of the invention as defined in the accompanying drawings.
