Those skilled in the art will appreciate that the following description of the present invention is merely exemplary and not limiting at all. Other embodiments of the invention will be readily conceived by those skilled in the art.
The present invention relates to a solid material composition having improved physical and electrical properties, a product made using the material, the material and a method of making the product.
Various products can be made using the compositions of the present invention. One aspect of the invention is a detergent or solution used to treat the ingredients used to form the composition. Since the volume of detergent or solution depends on the particular application, an exemplary example of formulating a detergent using 1 gallon of acetone is given. It will be appreciated by those skilled in the art that the amount of ingredients disclosed in the examples can be proportionally adjusted and distributed in several more or less doses of detergent.
In one exemplary example shown in FIG. 1, at reference numeral 10, brass is mixed with acetone in a commercially available mixer. In the example, about 454 grams of brass (about 100 mesh or finer) at high speed in a commercially available mixer for about 10 minutes, or until a golden color appears on the surface of acetone when the mixer is stopped. Mix with 1 gallon of acetone. At reference numeral 12, about 2 grams of silver granules are added and mixed. At reference numeral 14, the carbon nanotube material is added and mixed. In an exemplary example, about 1 gram of multi-walled carbon nanotube material is added and mixed at high speed for about 5 minutes. At reference numeral 16, pyrite is added and mixed. In an exemplary example, about 33.5 grams of pyrite with a particle size of about 0.125 inches is added and mixed at high speed for a minimum of about 3 minutes. At reference numeral 18, copper is added and mixed. In an exemplary example, about 517 grams of copper (about 100 mesh or finer) is added and mixed at high speed for about 8 minutes until a slurry begins to form on the surface after the mixer is turned off. Slurry. The order in which the carbon nanotube materials, silver, pyrite, and copper are added is not significant.
As described, when all the ingredients have been mixed, the liquid can be filtered and used as a detergent or solution. All of the filtered solids can be stored for further use, as disclosed herein. Once the material has been processed, the used cleaning solution is collected and can be reused by adding it to several new cleaning solutions.
When the cleaning solution is added, the constituent materials of the produced product are washed with a detergent. The adhesive film is combined with the constituent material. The constituent materials are combined by drying and applying pressure in either a dryer or room temperature.
According to one aspect of the invention, the composition forms the calcium-tin lead anode and cathode electrodes of the battery for applications of hydrometallurgical electrowinning (electrowinning) processes such as refining processes performed in the mining industry. Effectively used for. According to an example of the anode forming process described with reference to FIG. 2, at reference numeral 20, a single dose of lead melts. In an exemplary example, as is known in the art, about 635 kg of molten lead containing the appropriate amounts of calcium and tin is supplied into a suitable container at a temperature of about 800 ° F. At reference numeral 22, brass is treated with the cleaning solution described above. In an exemplary example, about 9 kg of brass granules (about 100 mesh) are treated with the detergent by running the above detergent over the granules. The cleaning solution is drained and the treated brass granules are dried. At reference numeral 24, about 2.3 kg of pyrite powder (about 0.025 inch granules) is treated with the cleaning solution, along with about 2 ounces of silver powder (about 100 mesh). At reference numeral 26, copper is treated with a cleaning solution. In an exemplary example, about 4.5 kg of copper granules (about 100 mesh) are treated and dried as described above. At reference numeral 28, treated brass, pyrite, and copper are added to the molten lead. An anode mold of the desired shape is supplied. A thin layer of approximately 100 mesh brass is evenly sprinkled over the entire bottom surface of the lead injection mold plate, which allows the material to flow uniformly from top to bottom as lead is injected and cooled. Becomes possible.
A mixture of treated materials is lined up on the bottom surface of the mold, and then lead is injected into the mold at reference numeral 30. When the treated lead anode ingot is cooled, it is removed from the mold at reference numeral 32 and transported to a rolling press, where at reference numeral 34 the ingot is rolled to a desired thickness, such as about 0.25 inch. And cut to the size of the finished anode with the desired dimensions, such as about 3 ft.X about 4 ft.X about 0.25 inch.
The anode formed by the present invention is more conductive than conventional lead anodes. These anodes are believed to last longer than traditional anodes.
With reference to FIG. 3, a method of forming a copper electrode according to another aspect of the present invention is a step of supplying a mold sized for a particular electrode and a first of the treated materials in the mold. And the step of placing the first layer of acid resistant polymer such as glass-filled nylon to a height sufficient to cover the first layer of treated material in the mold, and in the mold. A step of placing a second layer of treated material on a first layer of acid-resistant polymer, a step of placing a copper plate on a second layer of treated material in the mold, and a step in the mold. The step of placing a third layer of treated material on the copper plate and a second layer of acid resistant polymer such as glass-filled nylon to a height sufficient to cover the third layer of treated material in the mold. And the step of placing the fourth layer of the treated material on the second layer of acid resistant polymer in the mold, and the gold at about 800 ° F for about 30 minutes or until the polymer begins to melt. It includes heating the mold, removing the mold from the dryer, pressing the contents of the mold until it reaches the desired thickness, and cutting the electrodes to the desired final size.
According to another aspect of the invention, the composition is effectively used in a hanger bar used to support and supply current to the anode and cathode. Different figures of two exemplary examples of hanger bars according to the invention are shown in FIGS. 4, 5, and 6. The process of forming the hanger bar is shown in Figure 7. According to one exemplary embodiment of the hanger bar 60 according to the present invention, a copper tube 62 of suitable length having a rectangular cross section shown in FIG. 4 or a circular cross section shown in FIG. 5 is shown in FIG. Supplied at reference numeral 80. In one exemplary embodiment, the rectangular tube can have, for example, a wall size of about 1.75 inches x 0.75 inches and a wall thickness of about 0.125 inches. As will be appreciated by those skilled in the art, the wall thickness can be selected depending on the weight of the electrodes supported. Reference numeral 82 covers one end of the tube, and reference numeral 84 in FIG. 7 has a length shorter than the length of the copper tube by twice the length of the copper stopper used to seal the hanger bar. The copper strips 64 shown in FIGS. 4-6 are placed within the copper tube, and have a width selected to provide a sliding fit in the tube. Preferably, the perforated steel strip 66 shown in FIGS. 4-6 is secured to one or both sides of the copper strip 44 by, for example, spot welding, soldering, or brazing before inserting the copper strip into the tube. At reference numeral 86, the tube is filled with a mixture of brass, multi-walled carbon nanotube material, pyrite, and copper, as indicated by reference numeral 68 above.
As shown in FIG. 6, the stopper 70, which is made of a material such as copper, is used to seal the pipe and is held in place by, for example, press fitting, welding, brazing, or soldering. Can be done. The copper stopper 70, which has a length of about 2 inches, can be used in other lengths, but has been found to be sufficient for this purpose.
Prior to filling the tube, the brass, pyrite, and copper mixture 68 described above are washed and drained using an acetone solution, as described above. In addition, about 2 g of magnetite washed and drained with an acetone solution is added to the mixture. The post-drainage mixture is coated with a penetrating oil, such as the oil sold under the trademark WD-40, and then filled around the inserted strip in the pipe. In reference numeral 88 of FIG. 7, the second stopper 70 is inserted into the other end of the pipe and can be held in an appropriate position by, for example, press fitting, welding, brazing, or soldering.
According to another aspect of the invention, the busbar can be formed using the same process used to form the hanger bar. The central copper strip 64 is sandwiched between the perforated steel sheets 66 and placed in a copper tube 62 of appropriate length, as previously shown in FIGS. 4, 5, and 6. A mixture of copper, brass, pyrite, and magnetite treated as described herein (reference numeral 68) is injected into the tube, which is then covered by a plug 70 on each end. The length of the busbar may or will vary depending on the application and a particular length will be selected to suit the application. One advantage of using such a busbar is to provide more conductive lead to both the anode and cathode, thus providing more current and less battery voltage drop.
According to another aspect of the invention, the electrodes containing the anode and cathode in the case of zinc hydrometallurgy electrowinning (electrowinning) processes are similar to those used for copper anodes, with one exception. Formed using a mixing process. The exception is to replace copper with approximately equal amounts of additional brass and pyrite at reference numeral 26 during the process shown in FIG. Brass should be high in zinc, not copper, and brass compositions containing about 68.5% copper by weight, about 1.5% lead, and about 30% zinc have been found to be suitable for this application. It was. Zinc hydrometallurgical electrodes form lead electrodes, except that approximately 0.46% of silver is replaced by calcium-tin and a modified mixture containing additional brass and pyrite is used in place of copper. Created using the same process as shown in Figure 2.
