THE CLAIMS:1. In a stereolithographic method for constructing an object from a medium solidifiable upon exposure to synergistic stimulation, comprising the step of forming a plurality of layers of said medium, each layer of the medium having a desired thickness, and the step of selectively exposing said plurality of said layers to synergistic stimulation in patterns corresponding to cross-sections of the three-dimensional object, to build up the three-dimensional object layer by layer, the patterns including paths of exposure defined by vectors, the improvement comprising the steps of: exposing a first portion of a first layer to synergistic stimulation comprising at least a first set of vectors;and exposing a second portion of a second layer, at least partially overlying said first portion on said first layer to at least a second set of vectors substantially interposed between the vectors of said first set of vectors.
  2. 15
In a stereolithographic method for constructing an object from a medium solidifiable upon exposure to synergistic stimulation, comprising the step of forming a plurality of layers of said medium, each layer of the medium having a desired thickness, and the step of selectively exposing said plurality of said layers to synergistic stimulation in patterns corresponding to cross-sections of the three-dimensional object, to build up the three-dimensional object layer by layer, the patterns including paths of exposure defined by vectors, the improvement comprising the steps of:solidifying a first portion of a first layer by selectively exposing medium to synergistic stimulation comprising a first set of parallel vectors which result in adjacent traces of solidified medium contacting each other;and solidifying a second portion of a second layer by selectively exposing medium to synergistic stimulation comprising a second set of parallel vectors which result in adjacent traces of solidified medium contacting each other, wherein said vectors of said first and said second sets are not parallel.
  3. 18
The method of any of claims 15-17 wherein said first set and said second set of vectors comprise external skin vectors.
  4. 19
In a stereolithographic method for constructing an object from a medium solidifiable upon exposure to synergistic stimulation, comprising the step of forming a plurality of layers־־ of said medium, each layer of the medium having a desired thickness, and the step of selectively exposing said plurality of said layers to synergistic stimulation in patterns corresponding to cross-sections of the three-dimensional object, to build up the three-dimensional object layer by layer, the patterns including paths of exposure defined by vectors, the improvement comprising the steps of:providing a first boundary on at least a portion of a layer;and at least partially solidifying an area within the first boundary with a set of vectors, with at least one of the vectors of the set having at least one retracted end spaced apart from the boundary.
  5. 26
In a stereolithographic method for constructing an object from a medium solidifiable upon exposure to synergistic stimulation, comprising the step of forming a plurality of layers of said medium, each layer of the medium having a desired thickness, and the step of selectively exposing said plurality of said layers to synergistic stimulation in patterns corresponding .״־ to cross-sections of the three-dimensional object, to build up the three-dimensional object layer by layer, the patterns including paths of exposure defined by vectors, the improvement comprising the steps of:partially solidifying a portion of a first layer according to a first set of vectors, the vectors of the first set being substantially parallel to each other with their exposure specified such that the resulting cure depth of the vectors of the first set is less than the desired thickness of the first layer of medium and with adjacent vectors of the first set spaced apart from each other by at least a cure width;and at least partially solidifying the portion of the first layer with a second set of vectors with adjacent vectors of the second set spaced apart from each other by at least a cure width, the vectors of the second set being substantially parallel to each other and not parallel to the vectors of the first set such that at least some of the vectors of the second set intersect at least some of the vectors of the first set, the vectors of the second set having an exposure specified such that their resulting cure depth achieves adhesion to the previously formed layer only at points where vectors of the second set overlap vectors of the first set, with no adhesion occurring at points where vectors of the first set and second set do not overlap.
  6. 33
The method of any of claims 1-32 further comprising the step of reducing curl by using at least one technique selected ί»״״..... from the group consisting of smalleys, rivets, webs and multipass.
  7. 34
The method of any of claims 1-32 wherein the medium comprises a powder.
  8. 35
The method of any of claims 1-32 wherein the medium comprises a photopolymer.
