  1. 1
WHAT IS CLAIMED IS:• 1. A method for spray forming films of selected material components suitable for solar energy photovoltaic conversion devices, comprising the steps of: moving a glass substrate through a plurality of heat zones to establish at least one surface of said substrate at a uniform temperature functionally related to a film to be formed;spraying a portion of said at least one surface with a composition selected to form said film while said portion of said at least one surface is within one of said heat zones;and energizing said heat zones selectively to obtain a thermal energy input distribution adjacent said substrate approximating thermal energy losses from said substrate to maintain said at least one surface within a range of temperatures effective to produce said film suitable for said solar energy conversion device.
  2. 7
The method described in any of the preceeding claims, including the step of:limiting the deposition of said composition to only portions of said spray effective to form said film of material.
  3. 24
The apparatus described in any of the preceeding claims, including:spray means for projecting a said composition toward said surface at an angle effective to control the flow of said composition incident on said surface to selected portions of said surface;a fan for moving the atmosphere about said spray means and adjacent said substrate at a rate effective to remove detrimental spray products and reaction products from about said surface;baffle means for exposing said surface in functional proximity to said composition projected from said spray means;said spray means, fan, baffling means and radiative heaters cooperating to limit said film forming reaction to portions of said surface most suitable to form said films while removing products detrimental to film quality.
  4. 27
    28. Apparatus described in claim 27, wherein said means for collecting said composition includes:dwell tubes located transversely of said substrate;said dwell tubes having a first duct sized to receive said composition projected during said second cycle;and a second duct cooperating with said moving atmosphere for exhausting said composition received by said first duct.
  5. 29
    30. Apparatus described in claim 29, wherein said post-spray baffle further includes leading edge configured to deflect portions of said moving atmosphere to an exhaust region above said post-spray baffle.
