  1. 1
What is claimed:'-..'. 50978/2 <’ * ״ ,/* ׳.״ י *. י 'י . te CLAIMS: <־ . 1. A solar energy collector apparatus comprising , a first elongated, hollow transparent cylindrical glass tube having its one end closed and the other end open, a second elongated, hollow transparent cylindrical glass tube having its one end closed and the other end open, said second tube being disposed within said first tube, the open . end of the second tube being situated adjacent to the open end of the first tube, the glass composition of both said glass tubes being substantially the same, a surface coating . 10 of energy absorbing material on the surface of־said second . . tube, said coating having relatively high absorptivity and low emissivity, means on the closed end of said second . tube holding the second tube in spaced relationship to the 'Γ first tube defining a space therebetween, and means sealingly joining the first and second tubes adjacent their open ends, said means comprising a fusion of an encircling, ׳ annular portion of the glass adjacent the open end of the . ’ .1 : said first tube with the second Lube thereby enclosing a space . therebetween, said space being evacuated.
  2. 3
The solar energy collector apparatus of claim 1 or 2, wherein the surface coating of the energy absorbing ' . material is opaque and is on the exterior surface area on . . the second tube and contained within said evacuated space, the said energy absorbing material of said coating comprising a compound selected from the group consisting of black chrome, nickel, lampblack, carbon and copper compounds.
  3. 4
The solar energy collector apparatus of claims 1-3 having a means in communication with the other open end of said second tube for conducting the collected solar energy away from the collector apparatus.
  4. 7
    8. The solar energy collector apparatus of claim 7 in which the manifold comprises separated inlet and outlet passages for working fluid and includes means for detachably connecting the delivery tube and second tube, respectively, to said manifold passages.
  5. 8
    9. The solar energy collector apparatus of claim 8, wherein the means for detachably connecting the collector to said manifold for circulation of working fluid through the collector comprises coaxial ports in the manifold, one port in said inlet passage thereof for connecting said delivery tube and the working fluid source and the second port in coaxial alignment therewith disposed in the manifold adjacent its said outlet passage and spaced from said inlet passage, and sealing means cooperating respectively between the delivery tube and the inlet port and between the energy collector tube and the outlet port thereby providing for readily detachably connecting said energy collector to the manifold., said sealing means comprising annular grooves in the wall of the manifold peripherally encircling each of said coaxial ports and compressible 0-rings of fluid sealing material retained in each said groove and compressed respectively between the port and the delivery tube and the port and the energy collector.
  6. 13
    15. The solar energy collector apparatus of claim II, wherein the spring-like, snap on element engaging the closed end of the second tube comprises a cup-like element having plural outwardly dependent resilient legs, said legs frictionally engaging said second tube externally adjacent its closed end and nestingly engaging the closed end of said first tube, thereby holding the innermost closed end of said second tube in spaced relationship to the interior of said first tube.
  7. 16
    18. The solar energy collector apparatus substantially as described herein with reference to the accompanying drawings,.
