  1. 1
CLAIMS^ 1. A method of carrying out combustion or a reaction between streams of fluids in a region remote from the ( walls of the apparatus in which the combustion or reaction takes place, in which a stream of fluid in which no combustion or reaction is taking place is supplied into an annular chamber surrounding a combustion or reaction chamber and caused to follow a helical flow path which is symmetrical relative to the axis of the annular chamber and which passes into the combustion or reaction chamber through perforations in a perforated cylindrical wall which forms the dividing wall between the two chambers and moves around and along an axial cylindrical region of the combustion or reaction chamber, causing an axial stream of fluid to flow along initially substantially straight paths into said axial region of the combustion or reaction chamber, the axial stream of fluid consisting of substances which react with the substances forming the helical stream or with one another or combustible substances, and that at least a portion of the combustion or reaction chamber is brought to a temperature at which combustion or reaction is initiated.
  2. 14
Apparatus as claimed in any one of claims 4 to 13, in which a tangential pipe is directly connected to the reaction chamber, near the end of the chamber opposite the inlet for the axial stream, the tangential pipe pointing in the reverse direction to the feed pipe for the helical stream and the reaction chamber then being closed at that end by a substantially flat wall. 4756^/2
  3. 16
A method of carrying out a reaction between streams of fluids in a region remote from any wall of apparatus in which the reaction takes place, substantially as hereinbefore ך described.
