  1. 1
CLAIMS 1. A high strength polymer-based cartridge casing inclosing a volume, comprising:a first end having a mouth;a neck extending away from the mouth;a shoulder extending below the neck and away from the first end;a bullet configured to impact a target and disposed in the mouth;and a relief formed in the neck proximate to the mouth forming a gap between the neck and the bullet;and an adhesive disposed in the gap and in contact with the bullet, wherein at least the mouth, the neck, the shoulder and the relief are formed of at least one polymer.
  2. 3
A method of making a high strength polymer-based cartridge casing comprising the steps of:molding a component using a polymer, comprising: a first end having a mouth;and a second end opposite the first end;molding a neck extending away from the mouth, using a polymer;molding a shoulder extending below the neck and away from the first end, using a polymer;forming a relief on the neck, further forming a gap between the neck and a bullet configured to impact a target and disposed in the mouth;and applying an adhesive in the gap between the neck and the bullet and the adhesive contacts the bullet.
  3. 5
A high strength polymer-based cartridge casing comprising:a cartridge body, molded from a polymer, comprising: a first end having a mouth;a neck extending away from the mouth;a shoulder extending below the neck and away from the first end;a second end opposite the first end;and an inner sheath disposed proximate the second end;an insert, formed from at least one of a metal and metal alloy, comprising a front end and a back end, and further comprising: a rim disposed at the back end;a primer pocket disposed at and open along a portion of the back end and continuing partially toward the front end;a flash hole disposed forward of the primer pocket, in fluid communication with the primer pocket, and continuing partially toward the front end;and an undermolded area formed at the front end, opposite the rim, comprising: a basin formed on an inside of the undermolded area and disposed above the primer pocket;a ridge formed on the undermolded area;wherein the ridge engages the inner sheath, and engages the cartridge body.
