232299/2 CLAIMS 1. A pen-shaped transducer configured to be detected by a sensor including an array of electrodes, the pen-shaped transducer comprising:a pen-shaped body;a pressure sensor configured to detect pressure applied to a tip of the pen-shaped body, a transducer controller configured to generate a signal corresponding to a pressure value detected by the pressure sensor, an antenna configured to transmit the signal corresponding to the pressure value to the sensor, and a drive current source configured to drive the transducer controller;wherein the transducer controller is further configured to format the pressure value detected by the pressure sensor in a data frame and encode the data frame pursuant to a defined encoding method, and to transmit the pressure value encoded by the defined encoding method via the antenna to the sensor;and wherein the transducer controller is further configured to enter into low-current draw mode when the pressure value detected by the pressure sensor remains under a defined threshold value for a defined period of time;and wherein the transducer controller is further configured to: (i) operate in the lowcurrent draw mode and compare the pressure value detected by the pressure sensor to the defined threshold value in the low-current draw mode;and (ii) upon determining that the detected pressure value equals to or exceeds the defined threshold value, switch from the low-current draw mode to awake mode, format the pressure value in the data frame and encode the data frame, and transmit the pressure value encoded by the defined encoding method with a start signal indicative of a start of the data frame via the antenna to the sensor.

A method of controlling operation of a pen-shaped transducer configured to be detected by a sensor including an array of electrodes, the method comprising:sensing pressure applied to a tip of the pen-shaped transducer;generating a signal corresponding to the sensed pressure;formatting the sensed pressure in a data frame and encoding the data frame pursuant to a defined encoding method;transmitting the sensed pressure encoded by the defined encoding method to the sensor;and entering into low-current draw mode when the sensed pressure remains under a defined threshold value for a defined period of time, the steps of entering into the low-current draw mode further including: 51 232299/2 (i) operating in the low-current draw mode and comparing the sensed pressure to the defined threshold value in the low- current draw mode;and (ii) upon determining that the sensed pressure equals to or exceeds the defined threshold value, switching from the low-current draw mode to awake mode, formatting the sensed pressure in the data frame and encoding the data frame, and transmitting the sensed pressure encoded by the defined encoding method with a start signal indicative of a start of the data frame to the sensor.
