222102/3 CLAIMS:1. A method of distributing applications to a plurality of communication devices , comprising: determining what type of applications currently exist in the plurality of 5 communication devices;determining which features within the plurality of communication devices can be shared;selecting at least some of the features to be shared among the plurality of communication devices;10 uploading a linkage application to the plurality of communication devices responsive to the selection of features to enable sharing of the selected features between at least two of the plurality of communication devices ;and selectively operating the at least two communication devices in an independent mode or in a collaborative mode, wherein the collaborative mode is selected in response 15 to a determination that a communication device of the at least two communication devices is operating in a public safety mode and wherein the selection of the collaborative mode causes pairing the plurality of communication devices over the shared link for predetermined usage of the shared feature;and when operating in a collaborative mode, controlling, by a safety net application 20 that supports peer to peer sharing between the at least two communication devices of public safety information and status, a delivery of safety information to a most appropriate communication device of the at least two communication devices.
  2. 6
A method of distributing an application to communication devices, comprising:providing a first wireless communication device with a first user interface feature;providing a second wireless communication device having a second user 10 interface feature;uploading a linkage application to both the first and second wireless communication devices , the linkage application providing for a sharing of the first and second user interface features such that the first wireless communication device controls the second user interface feature and the second wireless communication device 15 controls the first user interface feature ;determining that the first wireless communication device is operating in a public safety mode;in response to determining that the first wireless communication device is operating in a public safety mode, automatically enabling an application on the second 20 wireless communication device that is not enabled on the first wireless communication device;and utilizing, by the first wireless communication device and via the linkage application, the application enabled on the second wireless communication device.
  3. 12
An apparatus comprising:a first wireless communication device;10 a second wireless communication device, wherein the second wireless communication device operates on a different communication system than the first wireless communication device;wherein one or more of the first and second wireless communication devices determines what type of applications currently exist in the first and second wireless 15 communication devices, determines which features within the first and second wireless communication devices can be shared, and selects a feature to be shared;wherein each of the first and second wireless communication devices uploads a linkage application to enable sharing of the selected feature between the first and second wireless communication devices;20 wherein each of the first and second wireless communication devices selectively operate in an independent mode or in a collaborative mode, wherein the collaborative mode is selected in response to a determination that a communication device of the at least two communication devices is operating in a public safety mode and wherein the selection of the collaborative mode causes pairing of the first and second wireless 25 communication devices over a shared link for predetermined usage of the shared features;and wherein, when operating in a collaborative mode, a safety net application, implemented by one or more of the first and second wireless communication devices and that supports peer to peer sharing of public safety information and status between 14 02183991\76-01 222102/3 the first and second wireless communication devices, controls a delivery of safety information to a most appropriate communication device of the first and second wireless communication devices.
  4. 13
An apparatus comprising:5 a first wireless communication device;a second wireless communication device, wherein the second wireless communication device operates on a different communication system than the first wireless communication device;wherein each of the first wireless communication device and the second 10 wireless communication device uploads a linkage application, the linkage application providing collaborative operation and information sharing amongst the first and second wireless communication devices during an expanded public safety mode of operation, the linkage application controlling enablement of features for a predetermined optimized user interface amongst the plurality of communication devices;and 15 wherein in response to determining that the first wireless communication device is operating in a public safety mode, the second wireless communication device automatically enables an application on the second wireless communication device that is not enabled on the first wireless communication device and the first wireless communication device utilizes the enabled application via the linkage application.
