198253/5 CLAIMS:1. A method comprising performing a machine-executed operation involving instructions, wherein said instructions are instructions which, when executed by one or more processors, cause the one or more processors to perform certain steps 5 including: receiving a first input data defining an ontology;creating and storing the ontology for a data store in response to said receiving, wherein the ontology comprises a plurality of object property types;creating one or more parser definitions in response to receiving second user 10 input defining the parser definitions, wherein each of the parser definitions specifies two or more sub-definitions, wherein each of the two or more sub-definitions specifies how to automatically transform a portion of first input data into a portion of modified input data that is compatible with a component of one of the object property types;wherein at least two different types of modified input data are valid for at least 15 two different components, wherein at least two different portions of the modified input data match at least two different components;storing each of the one or more parser definitions in association with one of the plurality of object property types;determining whether a particular portion of the first input data matches one of 20 the parser sub-definitions;and using a matching one of the parser sub-definitions, creating and storing a particular portion of modified input data in a component of the object property type that is identified in the matching one of the parser sub-definitions;wherein the machine-executed operation is at least one of (a) sending said 25 instructions over transmission media, (b) receiving said instructions over transmission media, (c) storing said instructions onto a machine-readable storage medium, and (d) executing the instructions.
  2. 9
A data storage system, comprising:10 a data store;an ontology coupled to the data store and comprising a plurality of object property types;a parser coupled to the ontology and configured to receive first input data and automatically transform the first input data into modified input data according to one or 15 more parser definitions;wherein each of the object property types comprises one or more of the parser definitions, wherein each of the parser definitions specifies two or more sub-definitions, wherein each of the two or more sub-definitions specifies how to automatically transform a portion of the first input data into a portion of the modified input data that is 20 to be stored in a component of one of the object property types;wherein at least two different types of modified input data are valid for at least two different components, and wherein at least two different portions of the first input data match at least two different expression patterns.
  3. 17
An apparatus, comprising:means for creating and storing an ontology for a data store in response to 5 receiving first user input defining the ontology, wherein the ontology comprises a plurality of object property types;means for creating one or more parser definitions in response to receiving second user input defining the parser definitions, wherein each of the parser definitions specifies two or more sub-definitions, wherein each of the two or more sub-definitions 10 specifies how to automatically transform a portion of first input data into a portion of modified input data that is compatible with a component of one of the object property types;wherein at least two different types of modified input data are valid for at least two different components, and wherein at least two different portions of the first input data match at least two different expression patterns;15 means for storing each of the one or more parser definitions in association with one of the plurality of object property types.
