-22- 188334/2 CLAIMS:1. Method for controlling access to data encrypted by control words (CW), these control words being received by a security module in control messages (ECM) and returned to a user unit (STB) for encrypted data, this method 5 comprising the following steps: reception of a first control message (ECM1) comprising at least one control word (CW) and a time stamp (TS), reception of a second control message (ECM2) consecutive to the first control message (ECM1), this second message comprising at least one control 10 word (CW) and a time stamp (TS), determination of a duration corresponding to the difference between the time stamps (TS) of the two consecutive control messages (ECM1, ECM2), if this duration is lower than a predefined duration (CP), incrementation of an error counter (CE), 15 if this duration is equal to or greater than said predefined duration, decrementation of said error counter (CE), returning of the control word (CW) to the user unit (STB) after a waiting time that depends on the value of the error counter (CE).
  2. 6
Method for controlling access according to any of claims 1 to 5, characterised in that said first control message (ECM1) includes a time stamp (TS), in that said second control message (ECM2) includes a time stamp (TS), and in that the duration separating the two consecutive control messages corresponds to the difference between the time stamps (TS) of these two control messages.
  3. 7
Method for controlling access according to any of claims 1 to 5, characterised in that the security module and/or the user unit contain a clock and in that the duration separating the two consecutives control messages corresponds to the difference between the moment of the reception of said first control message (ECM1) and the moment of the reception of said second control message (ECM2), these moments being determined by said clock.
  4. 11
Method for controlling access according to claims 9 and 10, characterised in that the preset rule for the incrementation of the value of the error counter (CE) and that for the decrementation of this error counter (CE) are different. -24- 188334/2
  5. 15
Device for controlling access to data encrypted by control words (CW), these control words being received by a security module in control messages (ECM) and returned to a user unit (STB) for encrypted data, this device comprising:reception means of a first control message (ECM1) comprising at least one control word (CW), . reception means of a second control message (ECM2) consecutive to the first control message (ECM 1), this second message comprising at least one control word (CW), means to determine a duration separating the two consecutive control messages (ECM1, ECM2), means to increment an error counter (CE) if this duration is lower than a predefined duration (CP), means to decrement said error counter (CE) if this duration is equal to or greater than said predefined duration, -25- 188334/2 and means to return the control word (CW) to the user unit (STB) after a waiting time depending on the value of the error counter (CE).
