11 claims: 6 independent, 5 dependent

  1. 1
RF MEMS switch comprising micromechanical switching means that can be actuated between two positions:a first position (off-state) and a second position (on-state), and actuation means for actuating the position of the switching means, the micromechanical switching means comprising a flexible membrane (6) which is supported by support means (3), which is bendable under the action of the actuation means (7), characterized in that said flexible membrane (6) is freely supported by said support means (3) and is adapted to freely slide relatively to the support means (3) during its bending movement.
  2. 3
The RF MEMS switch of claims 2 wherein it comprises electrostatic means (4) adapted to maintain the membrane (6) in its rest position.
  3. 4
The RF MEMS switch of any one of claims 1 to 3 wherein the membrane (6) forms a capacitive switch element.
  4. 9
The capacitive RF MEMS switch of claims 7 and 8 wherein the membrane (6) is in contact with the second dielectric layer (5) when the membrane (6) is at rest.
  5. 10
The RF MEMS switch of any one of claims 1 to 9 wherein the actuation means are electrostatic means.
  6. 11
The capacitive RF MEMS switch of any one of claims 5 to 9 wherein the actuation means are electrostatic means that comprise two electrodes (7) adapted to bend the membrane away from the substrate (1), and wherein the two electrodes (7) are positioned on the substrate (1) outside the coplanar wave guide.
