    Claims 1. A method for providing access to information about an article associated with a tag (101), suitable for a network system including a local server (103), an Object Naming Service, ONS, proxy (106); an ONS server (105) and at least one Physical Markup Language, PML, server (107) comprising the steps of:reading, by the local server (103), at least one encrypted virtual ID included in a tag (101);sending an ONS service request including the virtual ID from the local server (103) to the ONS proxy (106);acquiring, by the ONS proxy (106), an article ID by decrypting the virtual ID by use of a key K;generating, by the ONS proxy (106), based on the article ID , a network address request for acquiring the network address of a PML server (107) in which the information on article associated with the tag (101) is stored, and sending the request to the ONS server (105);receiving, by the local server (103), the network address of a PML server (107) which the ONS server (105) has returned in response to the network address request;sending, by the local server (103), based on the network address of a PML server (107), a PML service request including the virtual ID to the PML server (107);and providing, by the PML server (107), access to the information on article associated with the tag (101), which has been specified with the article ID acquired by decrypting the virtual ID by use of the key K, for the local server (103).

    The method according to Claim 1, wherein the article ID has a length of (N - r) bits, and the virtual ID has a length of N bits, the virtual ID being generated by encrypting a bit string with a length of N bits, which has been generated by distributing digits of a random number R of r bits within the bit string of the article ID in a manner that decryption of the encrypted bit string with the key K stored in the ONS proxy (106) and the PML server (107) is possible.

    The method according to Claim 1 or 2, wherein the network system includes multiple PML servers (107a, 107b, 107c), and the method further comprises a step of performing authentication between the local server (103) and the ONS proxy (106), and a PML server (107) for providing access at the step of providing access for the local server changes based on a result of authentication performed at the step of performing authentication.     The method according to Claim 3, wherein the step of performing authentication comprises a step of sending a credential to the local server (103) based on a result of authentication, and the ONS proxy (106) sends a network address request with different contents to the ONS server (105) based on the presence/absence of the credential and/or contents of the credential at the step of sending a request for a PML server address to the ONS server (105).

    The method according to Claim 4, wherein the ONS server (105) returns the network address of one of the multiple PML servers (107a, 107b, 107c) which corresponds to contents of the network address request.

    The method according to Claim 4 or 5, wherein the step of providing access to the information about an article associated with the tag (101) for the local server (103) comprises a step of the PML server (107) determining permission/_refusal to access the PML information by the local server (103) based on the presence/_absence of the credential and/or contents of the credential.

    A method for creating, by using a tag writer (102), a tag (101) including a virtual ID with a length of N bits, the method comprising the steps of:storing an article ID with a length of (N - r) bits in a storage device;generating a random number R of r bits;generating a bit string with a length of N bits by distributing digits of the random number R of r bits within the bit string of the article ID with a length of (N - r) bits;generating a virtual ID with a length of N bits by encrypting the bit string with a length of N bits in a manner that decryption of the encrypted bit string with a key K is possible;and writing the virtual ID with a length of N bits to a tag by use of the tag writer (102).

    The method according to Claim 7, wherein the step of generating a bit string with a length of N bits comprises a step of distributing digits of a random number R of r bits within the article ID according to an All-_or-_Nothing Transformation, AONT, algorithm.

    The method according to Claim 8, wherein the step of distributing digits of a random number R of r bits within the article ID comprises the steps of:hashing the IBM Corporation random number R of r bits to generate a hash value F_(R) of (N - r) bits;generating an exclusive OR X between the article ID and the F_(R);hashing the X to generate a hash value G_(X) of r bits;and generating an exclusive OR Y between the random number R of r bits and the G_(X).

    The method according to Claim 7, 8 or 9 , wherein the step of generating a virtual ID comprises a step of encrypting the bit string with a length of N bits with the key K, which is a common key, with a public key cryptography.

    A local server (103) suitable for a network system including an Object Naming Services, ONS, proxy (106), an ONS server (105) and at least one Physical Markup Language, PML, server (107) comprising:means for reading, by using a tag reader (102) connected to the local server (103), at least one encrypted virtual ID included in a tag (101);means for sending an ONS service request including the virtual ID to the ONS proxy (106);means for receiving the network address of a PML server (107) which the ONS server (105) has returned in response to the network address request which is generated from the ONS proxy (106) by using the article ID acquired by decrypting the virtual ID by use of a key K and is for acquiring the network address of a PML server (107) in which the information on article associated with the tag (101) is stored;and means for sending, by using the network address of a PML server (107), a PML service request including the virtual ID to the PML server (107) to access the information on article associated with the tag (101), which has been specified with the article ID acquired by decrypting the virtual ID by use of the key K.

    An Object Naming Service, ONS, proxy (106) suitable for a network system including a local server (103), an ONS server (105) and at least one Physical Markup Language, PML, server (107), comprising:means for receiving an ONS service request including at least one encrypted virtual ID which is read by using a tag reader (102) connected to the local server (103);means for acquiring an article ID by decrypting the virtual ID by use of a key K;means for generating, by using the article ID, a network address request needed for the local server (103) to acquire the network address of a PML server (107) in which the information on article associated with the tag (101) is stored;and means for sending the network address request to the ONS server (105).     An apparatus with a tag writer (102) for creating a tag (101) including a virtual ID with a length of N bits, comprising:a storage device for storing an article ID with a length of (N - r) bits;means for generating a random number R of r bits;means for generating a bit string with a length of N bits by distributing digits of the random number R of r bits within the bit string of the article ID with a length of (N - r) bits;means for generating a virtual ID with a length of N bits by encrypting the bit string with a length of N bits in a manner that decryption of the encrypted bit string with a key K stored in the ONS proxy (106) and the PML server (107) is possible;and means for writing the virtual ID with a length of N bits into tag (101).

    A tag (101) including a virtual ID with a length of N bits, the virtual ID being generated by encrypting a bit string with a length of N bits in a manner that decryption of the encrypted bit string with a key K is possible, the bit string with a length of N bits being generated by distributing digits of a random number R of r bits within a bit string of an article ID with a length of (N - r) bits.

    A program for obtaining information about an article associated with a tag (101), the program enabling a local server (103) suitable for a network system including an Object Naming Service, ONS, proxy (106), an ONS server (105) and at least one Physical Markup Language, PML, server (107) to perform the steps of:reading, by using a tag reader (102) connected to the local servery (103), at least one encrypted virtual ID included in a tag;sending an ONS service request including the virtual ID to the ONS proxy (106);receiving the network address of a PML server (107) which the ONS server (105) has returned in response to the network address request which is generated from the ONS proxy (106) by using the article ID acquired by decrypting the virtual ID by use of a key K and is for acquiring the network address of a PML server (107) in which the information on article associated with the tag (101) is stored;and sending, by using the network address of a PML server (107), a PML service request including the virtual ID to the PML server (107) to access the information on article associated with the tag (101) which has been specified with the article ID acquired by decrypting the virtual ID by use of the key K.

    A program for providing information on article associated with a tag (101), the program enabling an Object Naming Service, ONS, proxy (106) suitable for a network system including a local server (103), an ONS server (105) and at least one IBM Corporation Physical Markup Language, PML, server (107), to perform the steps of:receiving an ONS service request including at least one encrypted virtual ID which is read by using a tag reader (102) connected to the local server (103);acquiring an article ID by decrypting the virtual ID by use of a key K;generating, by using the article ID, a network address request used for the local server (103) to acquire the network address of a PML server (107) in which the information on article associated with the tag (101) is stored;and sending the network address request to the ONS server (105).

    A controlling program for controlling an apparatus with a tag writer (102) for creating a tag (101) including a virtual ID with a length of N bits, the controlling program enabling the apparatus with a tag writer (102) to perform the steps of:storing an article ID with a length of (N - r) bits into a storage device;generating a random number R of r bits;generating a bit string with a length of N bits by distributing digits of the random number R of r bits within the bit string of the article ID with a length of (N - r) bits;generating a virtual ID with a length of N bits by encrypting the bit string with a length of N bits in a manner that decryption of the encrypted bit string with a key K is possible;and writing the virtual ID with a length of N bits into a tag (102) by use of tag writer (102).
