177702/2 X CLAIMS 1. System for guiding a catheter through a lumen system, to a predetermined location within the lumen system, the system comprising:5 a medical positioning system including at least one position detector, said at least one position detector being firmly attached to a distal portion of said catheter, said medical positioning system determining the position of said at least one position detector;a moving mechanism coupled with said catheter;and io an organ monitor with said medical positioning system, for monitoring an organ timing signal of a monitored organ and of said lumen system, said monitored organ being coupled with said lumen system, a controller coupled with said medical positioning system, with is said organ monitor and with said moving mechanism, said controller updating a topological representation of at least a portion of said lumen system according to said organ timing signal, said controller further updates said position, said controller controlling the operation of said moving mechanism to move said catheter to said 20 predetermined location, according to the updated position of said distal portion and according to the updated topological representation.

    15. Method for guiding a catheter to a predetermined location within a lumen system, the method comprising the procedures of:establishing a path in said lumen system from a topological representation of said lumen system;io determining a first position of said catheter in said path, according to a position signal received respective of said first position of a distal portion of said catheter, and determining a new position to which said catheter is to be moved based on said determined first position and according to said path established from said topological is representation;operating a moving mechanism to move said catheter to a second position, according to said new determined position;receiving said position signal, as said catheter is moved during said operating step, when said second position is substantially 20 identical with said new determined position, determining a further new position on said path to which said catheter is to be moved and when said second position is not identical with said new determined position, determining at least one corrective movement for said catheter, said at least one corrective movement including retreating 25 said catheter backward within said lumen system;directing said moving mechanism to move said catheter according to said determined corrective movement;updating at least one of said topological representation, said first position and said second position, according to according to an organ 30 timing signal of an organ timing monitor;-26- 177702/2 controlling said moving mechanism according to at least one of said updated topological representation, said updated first position and said updated second position;superposing a representation of at least one of said updated first 5 position and said updated second position on an image of at least a portion of said lumen system;and displaying said superposition, wherein said displaying procedure includes a transforming a three-dimensional coordinate system of a medical positioning system 10 for determining at least one of said first position and said second position, to a two-dimensional coordinate system of said image.

    30. Method for guiding a catheter within a lumen system, the method comprising the procedures of:receiving at least three consecutive position inputs from a user, to automatically guide said catheter in real time, within said lumen 20 system;determining a user defined position for the tip of said catheter, for each of said received consecutive position inputs, said user defined positions defining a trail for said catheter tip;constantly detecting the real time position of the tip of said 25 catheter;determining continuously successive incremental paths along a trail, each one of said incremental paths passing between said real time position and the adjacent proceeding user defined position, constraint by a topological representation of said lumen system;and 30 automatically directing a moving mechanism to incrementally move said catheter within said lumen system along each of said -29- 177702/2 incremental paths, from each of a plurality of real time positions, toward said adjacent proceeding user defined position.
