  2. 3
The method according to Claim 2, wherein the step of requesting comprises:sending said IGMP request (18) from one of the IGMP hosts (16) to an IGMP router which communicates directly or indirectly with an Optical Line Termination OLT (12), the IGMP request indicating said requested multicast channel for delivering information to the particular end customer served by the host, wherein the IGMP request is sent via a particular Optical Network Terminal ONT (16) associated with the particular end customer and with said OLT.
  3. 4
The method according to Claim 2 or 3, wherein the step of ensuring the proper receipt to the particular end customer comprises sending a code key message (22) in response to said IGMP request, wherein the code key message comprises the service data (44, 45, 46, 50) .
  4. 5
The method according to any one of claims 2 to 4, wherein the delivering step comprises preliminary churning said multicast channel by using a churning key specific for said channel or a group of channels, and the step of ensuring the proper receipt to the particular end customer comprises sending a code key message in response to said IGMP request, the code key message further comprising access data that includes churning information (47, 52) about the churning key, . for dechurning said requested multicast channel at the facilities of the particular end customer.
  5. 7
The method according to any one of Claims 3 to 5, wherein the IGMP request further comprises an additional information associated with the requested multicast channel, said additional information being inserted in the IGMP request at the ONT and sent from the ONT to the OLT.
  6. 8
The method according to any one of claims 4 to 7, wherein the code key message is transmitted in the form of a physical layer operations Administration and Maintenance (PLOAM) message or in the form of ONT Management and Control Interface (OMCI) message.
  7. 9
The method according to any one of claims 6 to 8, further comprising a step of providing entitlement information associated with each of said hosts, the entitlement information comprising at least data about multicast channels assigned to each of said end customers .
  8. 10
The method according to any one of Claims 2 to 9, wherein said PON is an Asynchronous Transport Network (ATM) based PON, and the service data (44, 45, 46, 50) further comprises information concerning Virtual Path/Virtual Connection VP/VC (44, 45) or information about port-ID, at which the requested multicast channel can be received at the facilities of the end customer.
  9. 11
The method according to any one of Claims 4 to 10, wherein said code key message is transmitted through one of the following connection types:through a multicast connection to all ONTs of the multicast group, through a unicast connection shared at the physical level between several ONTs, or via a layer 2 unicast connection to said particular ONT.
  10. 12
The method according to any one of claims 6 to 11 wherein, if the requested multicast channel is being presently received in . a churned form by at least one end customer other than said particular end customer requesting the multicast channel, the churning key is selected to be equal to that being presently used for said other at least one end customer.
  11. 13
An Optical Line Termination (OLT), (12), for a PON communication system (10), capable of performing multicast transmission, using Internet Management Group Protocol (IGMP) protocol and an IGMP router, to a plurality of Optical Network Terminations (ONTs) , (16), each associated with an IGMP host and serving respective end customers of the PON communication system, the OLT being capable of :- receiving an IGMP request (18) for a multicast channel (20) from a particular end customer via a particular ONT (16) , and forwarding said IGMP request to the IGMP router;- if said particular end customer is added to a multicast group by said IGMP router, the OLT (12) being operative to deliver information over said multicast channel to the end customers belonging to said multicast group, the OLT is characterized in being capable of producing and sending a code key message (22) to the particular ONT, separately from the multicast channel (20), wherein the code key message comprises aceess service data (44, 45, 46, 50) including one or more information fields selected from among the fields indicating: service type, traffic type, service priority, data rate, flow ID, maximal latency/jitter, bit error rate (BER), thereby to ensure, at the ONT of said particular end customer, proper receipt of the information delivered over said multicast channel in response to said IGMP request.
  12. 14
The OLT according to Claim 13, capable of churning said multicast channel before delivery by using a multicast churning key;and wherein said service data in the code key message further comprises access data including churning information (47,52) about the multicast churning key.
