Ultrasonic cellular tissue screening tool

Abstract

A system for screening breast tissue is disclosed. The system comprises an ultrasound probe and a carrier adapted to support the ultrasound probe and to progressively move the probe over the breast tissue. A pad is employed to cover the nipple of the breast tissue, and a fabric covering is adapted to hold the breast tissue and the pad in place as the probe is moved over the breast tissue.

  1. 1
A system for screening cellular tissue, comprising:an ultrasound scanning device including an ultrasound probe;a location and orientation sensor system coupled with the ultrasound probe;a receiver to receive images from the ultrasound scanning device, and a receiver to receive location and orientation data from the sensor system for each image, wherein the progressive movement of the probe is matched to the frame capture rate of the ultrasound scanner associated with the probe.
  2. 6
A system for screening cellular tissue, comprising:an ultrasound scanning device including an ultrasound probe;a carrier driven to move progressively over the cellular tissue, the probe being mounted to the carrier to generate a series of cross-sectional images of the cellular tissue that are substantially parallel to adjacent images in the series, and a controller in communication with the probe to sequentially activate the probe during progressive movement of the probe over the cellular tissue.
  3. 49
A system for screening breast tissue for anomalies or other features, with means for obtaining a sequential series of cross-sectional ultrasound scan images of breast tissue, with each succeeding scan uniformly spaced and substantially parallel to the preceding scan, comprising:a platform to steady the patient;a carrier connected with the platform;an ultrasound probe connected with the carrier in such a manner that its angular position can be adjusted by rotating the probe on at least one axis, wherein the carrier moves the probe over the breast, and the scan data gathered by the probe is collected by an ultrasound scanning device.
  4. 64
A method of transmitting scan data from a ultrasonic scanning device to a computer, whereby a program implemented by a computer initiates transmission of the scan data via a connection device, comprising the steps of:a handshake sequence between the program and the scanning device, clearing the scanning device's internal memory buffer;acquiring a desired number of individual scan images as frames within the buffer;freezing the buffer to count the number of frames in the buffer, and to determine their dimensions and format;opening a file on the computer to accept the frames;transmitting the frames from the scanning device to the computer via a connection device;converting the frame, data from the scanning device format to the format used by a viewer program, and writing the converted flame data to an Image file in a sequential manner.
