A device for recording images on a printing form comprising: an array of light sources;5 imaging optics for generating η x m imaging spots on the printing form, n being greater than one and m being greater than or equal to one and n and m being natural numbers;the array of light sources including an array of r x s Vertical Cavity Surface Emitting Laser (VCSEL) light sources, at least two of the r x s Vertical Cavity Surface Emitting io Laser (VCSEL) light sources being controllable independently of one another, r being greater than or equal to n and s being greater than or equal to m, r and s being natural numbers;wherein the array of r x s Vertical Cavity Surface Emitting Laser (VCSEL) light sources is constituted in modular form by a plurality of subarrays. 15

A device for recording images on a printing form comprising:5 an array of light sources;imaging optics for generating η x m imaging spots on the printing form, n being greater than one and m being greater than or equal to one and n and m being natural numbers;the array of light sources including an array of r x s Vertical Cavity Surface Emitting 10 Laser (VCSEL) light sources, at least two of the r x s Vertical Cavity Surface Emitting Laser (VCSEL) light sources being controllable independently of one another, r being greater than or equal to n and s being greater than or equal to m, r and s being natural numbers;wherein the array of r x s Vertical Cavity Surface Emitting Laser (VCSEL) light 15 sources includes a subarray of at least two of the Vertical Cavity Surface Emitting Laser (VCSEL) light sources, the printing form having at least one specific imaging spot formed by combining light emitted by the subarray of the r x s Vertical Cavity Surface Emitting Laser (VCSEL) light sources;and wherein the subarray has at least one first and one second Vertical Cavity Surface 20 Emitting Laser (VCSEL) light source, the first and second Vertical Cavity Surface Emitting Laser (VCSEL) light sources being controlled so that light emitted by the first Vertical Cavity Surface Emitting Laser (VCSEL) light source is in a fixed phase relation to light emitted by the second Vertical Cavity Surface Emitting Laser (VCSEL) light source. 25

A device for recording images on a printing form comprising:an array of light sources;imaging optics for generating η x m imaging spots on the printing form, n being greater than one and m being greater than or equal to one and n and m being natural 30 numbers;the array of light sources including an array of r x s Vertical Cavity Surface Emitting 20 148602/2 Laser (VCSEL) light sources, at least two of the r x s Vertical Cavity Surface Emitting Laser (VCSEL) light sources being controllable independently of one another, r being greater than or equal to n and s being greater than or equal to m, r and s being natural numbers;5 wherein the array of Vertical Cavity Surface Emitting Laser (VCSEL) light sources has at least one subarray having a Vertical Cavity Surface Emitting Laser (VCSEL) light source provided as a reference emitted for diagnosing parameters relevant to emission.

A device for recording images on a printing form comprising:10 an array of light sources;imaging optics for generating η x m imaging spots on the printing form, n being greater than one and m being greater than or equal to one and n and m being natural numbers;the array of light sources including an array of r x s Vertical Cavity Surface Emitting 15 Laser (VCSEL) light sources, at least two of the r x s Vertical Cavity Surface Emitting Laser (VCSEL) light sources being controllable independently of one another, r being greater than or equal to n and s being greater than or equal to m, r and s being natural numbers;wherein the array of Vertical Cavity Surface Emitting Laser (VCSEL) light sources 20 has a subarray, the imaging optics for the subarray having a component with a focal position variable as a function of a distance at least one light source of the array of Vertical Cavity Surface Emitting Laser (VCSEL) light sources to the printing form.

A device for recording images on a printing form comprising:25 an array of light sources;imaging optics for generating η x m imaging spots on the printing form, n being greater than one and m being greater than or equal to one and n and m being natural numbers;the array of light sources including an array of r x s Vertical Cavity Surface Emitting 30 Laser (VCSEL) light sources, at least two of the r x s Vertical Cavity Surface Emitting Laser (VCSEL) light sources being controllable independently of one another, r being 21 148602/1 greater than or equal to n and s being greater than or equal to m, r and s being natural numbers;wherein the array of Vertical Cavity Surface Emitting Laser (VCSEL) light sources has at least one first light source having a control, the control, as a function of a power output from the first light source, varying an input power when the power output deviates from a setpoint value.
