-22- 10 Claims That which is claimed is:1. A wireless mobile terminal (15 0) for a wireless communications system, comprising: a wireless transceiver (152);and a Global Positioning System receiver (170);wherein said wireless transceiver and said GPS receiver share a reference oscillator signal (161), characterized by: said communication system including at least one base station (26/126) that broadcasts a frequency reference signal, and wherein said reference oscillator signal is synchronized to said frequency reference signal of said base station.
  2. 4
A wireless mobile terminal (150) for a wireless communications system, comprising:a wireless transceiver (152);and a Global Positioning System receiver (170);5 wherein said GPS receiver and said wireless transceiver share a reference oscillator (161) signal, characterized by: a first multiplier (210), wherein said reference oscillator signal is multiplied by a first integer at said first multiplier to produce a first GPS local oscillator used in signal conversion to a first intermediate frequency at said GPS receiver;and 10 a second multiplier, wherein said reference oscillator signal is multiplied by a second integer at said second multiplier to produce a second GPS local oscillator used in signal conversion to a second intermediate frequency at said GPS receiver. A wireless mobile terminal (150) for a wireless communications system, comprising:a wireless transceiver (152);a Global Positioning System receiver (170);5 a phase locked loop circuit including a frequency synthesizer, characterized by: said frequency synthesizer alternately operating in a wireless mode and a GPS mode.
  4. 13
A wireless mobile terminal (150) for a wireless communications system, comprising:a wireless transceiver (152) including a wireless local oscillator (198) that is 5 controlled by a control signal (184"');and a Global Positioning System receiver (170) including a GPS local oscillator (250) that is alternatingly controlled by said control signal.
