The present invention relates to an improved mattress.
It is well known that one of the main drawbacks of current mattresses lies in the formation of a hollow in the center of these, following prolonged use and resulting from a compaction of their internal constituent material.
In addition, when such a mattress is used simultaneously by two people whose weights have a significant difference, it generally results in a deformation of the mattress caused by the heaviest person, deformation which affects the entire surface of said mattress and discomfort the other person's good rest.
The present invention aims precisely to overcome these drawbacks and it relates to this aim, a mattress formed mainly by a plurality of longitudinal or transverse bands juxtaposed in a horizontal strip, each band itself being constituted by springs juxtaposed and housed individually or by strips in a protective envelope ensuring good performance of the assembly.
In this way, the mattress being made up of a plurality of springs independent of each other, its deformation under the weight of a sleeper will be located under the latter, without any repercussions on the behavior of the remaining surface of the mattress.
According to a particular embodiment of this mattress, the bands which constitute it are each formed by a tubular envelope of foam or other cellular material inside which is housed a plurality of vertical springs placed side by side and secured by their ends to a flexible frame, the springs and the frame being previously housed in a first protective cover of canvas or other similar material.
According to another embodiment, the juxtaposed strips are each formed by a tubular envelope of foam or other cellular material, inside which is housed a plurality of vertical springs placed _jote side by side and previously housed in a first protective envelope eh canvas or other similar material, on which a vertical seam is formed between each spring joining the two longitudinal side walls of this envelope, so as to

The set of strips juxtaposed longitudinally or transversely is sandwiched between two coverings, each formed on the one hand, internally, of a sheet of foam or other cellular material, and, on the other hand, externally, of a padding giving the whole a good finish and a pleasant aesthetic appearance.
On the other hand, means, such as for example glue, make the juxtaposition of the strips final.
In any case, the invention will be clearly understood with the aid of the description which follows, with reference to the appended diagrammatic drawing, representing, by way of nonlimiting examples, two embodiments of this mattress. In this drawing:
Figure 4 is an end view and in a vertical cross section, of a mattress composed of longitudinal strips;
Figure 2 is a top view with partial section showing a first embodiment of this mattress;
Figure 3 is a view similar to Figure 2 showing a second embodiment of this mattress ”
FIG. 4 shows in section a mattress formed according to the invention, that is to say composed mainly of a plurality of flexible strips 2 able to be arranged longitudinally or transversely with respect to the longitudinal axis of the mattress to be produced and juxtaposed in a horizontal plane so as to cover the surface of a normal bed.
Each of these bands 2 is itself composed of a tubular envelope g of any section of foam or other cellular material and inside 3aqéL3e is introduced an assembly of vertical springs 4, juxtaposed in alignment and housed inside d '' a protective cover in canvas or other.
According to a first embodiment of this mattress illustrated in Figure 2, each spring 4 is secured by its upper and lower ends to a flexible frame constituted by four metal wires 6 each wound helically over their entire length and arranged parallel to the envelope tubular in cellular material. As clearly shown in FIG. 2, the connection of the springs with the armature takes place by causing the wire consti40, killing each spring 4, to penetrate in certain places through a few windings of the

-32076465 wire 6 of 11frame.
In this way, if a localized pressure is exerted at any point of the mattress, only the springs 4 located directly above the pressed area, undergo a crushing, so that only said area is deformed on the surface of the mattress without cause deformations of the surrounding surface.
According to another embodiment illustrated in Figure 5 »each spring 4 is independent and is housed in a cell 2.i produced by connecting, by means of a vertical seam located between each of these springs, the dem ·; ^ longitudinal side arois of the protective casing a chain of springs 4 of suitable length being engaged longitudinally inside each tubular casing £ ·
On the other hand, all of the strips 2 which can be arranged either transversely or parallel to the longitudinal axis of the mattress to be formed are connected together by bonding in the chosen arrangement. ''
The strips 2 thus assembled are then sandwiched between two identical or different coatings, each composed, in general, of a sheet of foam 8 or of any other cellular material and placed in contact with the strips 2, and of an external padding £ ensuring the finishing of the mattress and obtaining a suitable external appearance.
As it goes without saying, and as it already reassures from the above, the invention is in no way limited to the sole embodiments of this mattress which have just been described by way of nonlimiting examples ; it embraces, on the contrary, all the variant embodiments.
Thus, for example, all box springs, cushions, seats or other similar products produced according to the present invention cannot pretend to go beyond the scope thereof.
