The present invention relates to new and improved winding isolation and termination assemblies and more particularly relates to a single isolation and termination element such as those used in relay coils.
Until now, relay coils have had many pieces of insulating material to ensure correct positioning and satisfactory electrical operation of the coil. These components are usually joined together using different adhesives, tapes or wires during an assembly operation which, when performed manually, takes a considerable amount of time. Although the use of numerous interconnecting components and tapes or adhesives may seem permissible for large relay coils, recent coils of very small overall dimensions cannot use such elements because they would be far too bulky to be incorporated into small coils. Furthermore, a manual assembly of t hese small coils would constitute an extremely complicated and delicate operation.
The invention proposes to provide a single coil isolation and connection element which can be used advantageously for both large and small relay coils.
Another object of the invention is to provide a single winding insulation and connection element which can be easily put in place by an operator during the assembly of the relay coils.
According to one aspect of the invention, the relay coil consists of a winding fixed to a support by means of a single insulation and connection element. This single element has first, second and third segments. The pr-pmi pr segment comprises a split part intended to receive the coil support while the second segment comprises on the one hand means for fixing the single element of isolation and connection on the coil support and on the other part of the means for fixing the element with respect to the projecting part of the reel support. The third segment comprises terminals intended to be connected to the winding and means for holding the single element in position around the winding.
Other advantages and characteristics of the invention
46206 2 2074150 will be highlighted in the following description of a particular embodiment, given by way of nonlimiting example, with reference to the accompanying drawings in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of an assembled relay coil.
Figure 2 is a plan view of the single isolation and connection element.
FIG. 3 is a perspective view of the single insulation and connection element in which the coil support is placed.
Figure 4 is a section taken along line 4-4 of Figure 1.
With reference to the drawings, and more particularly to Figure 1, the relay coil 1 according to the invention comprises a winding 2, means for supporting the coil, for example a hub 3 comprising a first end plate 4, a second end plate 5, a central part 6 and an insulation and connection element 7 which fixes the winding on its support.
As shown in Figure 2, the single insulation and connection element comprises a first segment 8, a second segment 9 and a third segment 10. The first segment comprises two branches 11 and 12 which delimit between them a slot 13 intended to receive the central part 6 of the coil support. Each of the branches of the first segment extends respectively to a common selvage to symmetrical parts 14 and 15 of the second segment of the element 7. The symmetrical parts 14 and 15 delimit an opening 16 intended to receive the central part 6 of the coil support. An anchoring element 17, such as a lug, protrudes from the second part and prevents any displacement of the insulating and connecting element relative to the coil support when the winding is placed around the central part. of the medium. The second segment of the element 7 located at its other end extends to a common edge with a third segment which is oriented transversely with respect to the second segment and is arranged asymmetrically with respect to the latter. Conductive strips 18 and 19, connected to terminal wires 20 and 21 are provided on this second segment. It is also provided on the third segment of the conductive strips 22 and 23 which ensure the connection
46206 3 2074150 with wires 24 and 25. Wires 24 and 25 are twisted together so as to hold the single insulation and connection element in position around the winding during assembly of the relay coil. A fourth electrically insulating tab 26, oriented transversely with respect to the third segment when the relay coil is assembled, extends from the bar 22 in the direction of the opposite bar 23 in order to protect the winding when the wires 24 and 25 are twisted with each other. A fifth electrically insulating segment 27 can be incorporated into the aforementioned single element. When it is desired to incorporate a fifth segment, this is arranged in the longitudinal direction from the third segment of the element 7, this fifth segment improving the insulation between the lower side of the strips 18, 19, 22 and 23 and winding 2.
As shown in Figure 3, when assembling the relay coil, the central part 6 of the support 3 is engaged in the slot 13 of the first segment of the single insulation and connection element 7 and enters a opening 16 of the second segment. The first and the third segments of the element 7 are bent backwards on the end plate 4 of the support in order to maintain the assembly during the subsequent assembly operations. The anchoring element, such as the leg 17, is curved perpendicular to the element 7 and is applied against the central part 6 of the support. The wire constituting the winding is then wound around the central part of the support. The first turns of the wire around the central part of the support maintain the anchoring element 17 in the desired position and prevent the element 7 from moving during subsequent assembly operations. The start wire 28 (shown in Figure 3) and the end wire (which has not been shown for clarity of the drawings) of the winding are long enough to be able to be finally connected to the corresponding good wires 20 and 21 of the single isolation and connection element. Once the wire constituting the winding has been completely wound on the central part of the hub, the curved part of the first segment 8 of the element 7, which extends beyond the outer diameter of the first end plate * of the medium is deleted. When the single isolating and connecting element is used with coils of
46206 4 2074150 small dimensions, the curved part of the first segment 8 is not removed until the subsequent assembly operations are completed in order to help the anchoring element to prevent any movement of the element 7. terminal wires 20 and 21 and wires 24 and 25 are then soldered to the corresponding strips. Once these wires have been fixed on their respective strips, the third segment 10 of the single element is bent so as to rest against the outer periphery of the winding. When the fifth insulating segment 27 is used, it must be bent below the strips of the third segment in order to improve the insulation between the winding and the back of the strips before the third segment is bent over the winding. . The third segment is then arranged so as to match the contour of the outer periphery of the winding and a fourth isolation lug 26 is placed below the winding, being directed towards the strip 23 placed in opposition. Once the third segment matches the contour of the outer periphery of the winding as shown in Figures 3 and 4, the wires 24 and 25 are crossed, by exerting a tension along the axis of each wire, then they are twisted together so as to hold the element 7 in position around the winding. Although a single twist is sufficient to hold element 7 around a small relay coil, several twists of wire, or a suitable clip, can be used for a large relay coil. The terminal wires are then soldered to the outgoing and incoming wires of the winding in order to establish a connection between these and the terminal wires. The insulation of the coil thus formed can be further improved by depositing a finishing coating on the assembly by known and suitable means, and a chemical stripping substance is deposited on the parts of the terminal wires which are external to the assembly of the coil so as to remove any insulating material which may have been deposited on them.
Although the description has been made with reference to a particular embodiment to illustrate, it should be understood that various modifications can be made thereto without departing from the scope of the invention.
