The present invention relates to a device applicable to combine harvesters in order to allow the harvesting of cereals with long stalks.

In the harvesting of long-stemmed cereals, such as corn and sunflower, difficulties arise in the feeding of the combine harvester and this feeding often becomes very irregular despite the presence of the reel which is provided above the bar cutting and which has so far failed to remedy these difficulties.

The object of the present invention is to remedy these drawbacks and to ensure a regular supply of the drum of the complete harvesting machine, that is to say, the stem and fruit, and while having continuous collection and allowing a cut over a width corresponding to several juxtaposed dividers.

In order to achieve this goal, the device object of the invention is characterized in that an apron for feeding the cut rods to an endless screw with retractable fingers is located between the latter and dividers provided at the front and in that these dividers are designed and cooperate with the deck so as to produce, without the intervention of a reel, a reievage and a retraction of the rods brought in several lines before their feeding under the effect of the worm on a narrower width towards the conveyor of supply.

In the practical embodiment of the invention, a frame carrying the cutter bar in which are housed the worm screw provided in its central part with retractable fingers and an apron or conveyor, supports forwards dividers provided with chains of brought to different levels, the upper chains having the highest speed.

Price of the booklet: 2 francs, thus allowing the easy transformation of a harvester for ordinary cereals into a harvester for cereals with long stems.

In order to clearly understand the invention, there will be described below an embodiment given by way of nonlimiting example with reference to the drawings in which:

Figure 1 is an elevational view of the device and Figure 2 a plan view.

In the accompanying drawings, there is shown at 1 one of the wheels of a combine harvester, at 2 the chassis of the conveyor (not shown) serving to bring the threshing rods cut and forming part of the chassis to the threshing mechanism. the combine and in 3 the driver's seat.

On the chassis 2 is mounted a frame which includes a bottom 4 and flanges 5 and in which are housed an endless screw 6 provided in its central part with retractable fingers 7 and towards the front a conveyor 8 provided as the endless screw over the entire width of the frame 4-5 and formed of slats 9 fixed to chains 10 passing on chain wheels 11 and 12 whose axes are carried by the flanges

The frame 4-5 which is provided towards the front of the cutter bar 42 carries dividers 13 which are formed from boxes inclined towards the ground and which are each provided with a point 14 made floating by the fact that it can tilt around an axis 15 carried by supports 16 integral with the bottom 4 of the box.

Each divider is provided at different levels with supply chains 17-18 carrying drive teeth 19.

These chains in general four in number for each divider are superimposed two by two but forward each upper chain is offset from the corresponding lower chain so as to increase the collection area.

On the other hand, the lower chains 17 have a speed lower than the upper chains 18.

The assembly formed by the frame 4-5, the worm 6, the conveyor 8 and the divider is generally removably mounted relative to the chassis

As a connection means, any suitable device can be used. In the example shown, plates 20 are provided which are fixed to the frame 2 passing through the frame 4-5 and are provided with openings 21 receiving shims or pins 22.

In general, ies different elements; worm gear 6, conveyor 8 and supply chains 17-18 are controlled by the tractor from a single shaft 23.

In the example shown Tarbre 24 of the worm 6 and the motor shaft 25 of the conveyor are driven by a chain 26 circulating on wheels 27-28-29.

For the control of the supply chains 17-18, there is provided a shaft 30 located transversely in the frame 4-5 and controlled by a chain 31 circulating on the one hand on a wheel 32 wedged on the shaft 25 and on the other leaves on a wheel 33 wedged on the shaft 30.

The chains 17-18 run on guide wheels 34-35 and wheels 36-37 fixed on a shaft 38 carrying a chain wheel 39 rotated by a chain 40, a wheel 41 and a shaft 42 controlled from of the shaft 30 by bevel gears 43-44.

The relative speeds of the worm screw 6 of the conveyor 8 and of the chains 17-18 are calculated in such a way that the conveyor has an intermediate speed between that of the worm which is the highest and those of the feed chains 17 -18.

In such a device, the rods are gripped by the dividers and are subjected to the action of chains 17-18 which due to the fact that the upper chains have a higher speed cooperating to give rise to a straightening of the rods such that, while being subjected to the action of the cutter bar 45, the rods are folded back towards the deck 8 which serves as a support at the time of their introduction under the effect of the action of the retractable fingers 7 on the conveyor located in the chassis 2.

The presence of the conveyor or apron 8 located between the dividers and the worm has the effect of avoiding any twisting of the rods and by its cooperation with the dividers, the rods are properly straightened and folded down, allowing the reel usually provided above the cutter bar to be removed and giving rise to regular feeding while maintaining the divider-deck and worm gear assembly, and more specifically for the deck 8 of the permissible length dimensions and allowing cutting work over a large width.

As is understood in the case where the frame 45 is removable, a harvester intended for ordinary cereals can be easily adapted for use for cereals with long stems by removing the reel and replacing by the assembly described here. - above the frame carrying the cutter bar and containing the worm.
