The invention relates to pocket knives with one or more blades, the shells of which carry images and / or texts for advertising purposes. The object of the invention is to animate such publicity means of the fact that the images or the texts appear alternately during the opening and the closing of the blades of the penknife and it is possible in this way to make appear images or different texts. In addition, it is also possible , for example, to replace an image with advertising text relating to said image.

According to the invention this object is achieved by the fact that the image or the text are no longer affixed, as so far, on the shells of the penknife themselves, but on a movable plate, disposed between the cheek and the shell adjoining the latter and made of a transparent material. During the opening and closing of the knife blade, the movable plate, placed on the cheek, is moved longitudinally in a cavity provided in the inner face of the shell and, for this purpose, said movable plate is articulated at the hinge of the penknife by means of two articulated levers, guided in a notch provided in the cheek. On the other hand, the inner face of the shell is covered with a thin-walled plate, provided with windows, so as to provide it with partial opacity.

When the penknife blade opens, the movable plate carrying the image or the text and connected to the blade by means of articulated levers, is automatically pushed back by the blade, that is to say it is moved in the cavity of the inner face of the corresponding shell until the moment when the images and texts, visible until that moment in the windows of the cover plate provided on the inner face of the shell, are pushed back under the cover plate and become invisible, on the other hand, other images or texts, provided on the movable plate, appear in the windows of the cover plate and are visible through the transparent shell of the penknife.

The invention can be applied not only when using transparent shells, but also when opaque shells are used. In this case, the shell itself is provided with windows in which the images or the texts of the movable plate appear.

The invention can also be carried out in the case of pocket knives with automatic opening, the blades of which are subjected to the traction of helical springs which are tensioned by means of the blades when they fold back and which relax during the opening of the blades by attracting them in the open position. Since the construction of such pocket knives does not allow the articulated levers to be guided in a notch in the cheek carrying the movable plate, connecting said movable plate, provided with images and texts, to the corresponding blade, but requires that the articulated levers are disposed between the two cheeks of the shells of the penknife, the invention proposes to connect the movable plate to its articulated lever by means of a rivet, guided, during the displacement of the movable plate, in a notch in the corresponding cheek.

Several embodiments, given by way of nonlimiting example, are shown in the accompanying drawings, in which:

Fig. 1 shows a side plan view of a closed penknife, the shell of which, cooperating with the movable plate carrying the images or the texts, is covered on its inner face with a thin-walled plate, provided with windows, in order to obtain partial opacity;

1, 2 are the shells fixed on the cheeks 3 and 4, represents the blade, subjected to the action of a spring 6 of the penknife shown in FIGS. 1 to 5. The different parts of the penknife are assembled by means of the rivets 7,8. According to the invention, a movable plate 13, carrying in the embodiment shown the image of a bicycle, an automobile, a sailboat and an airplane, is moved longitudinally in a cavity 9, provided in the inner face of the shell 1 covered with a thin-walled plate 10, provided with windows 11 and 12, to obtain the desired partial opacity. In order to be able to proceed with the longitudinal displacement of the movable plate 13 in the cavity 9, provided in the inner face of the shell 1, said plate 13 is coupled to the blade 5 by means of two articulated levers 14 and 15 which are guided in a notch 16 in the cheek 3. When the blade 5 opens, the plate 13 is pushed back by the blade 5 by means of the articulated levers 14, 15 and moves in the cavity 9 of the shell 1 so that the images of the bicycle and of the automobile, visible until this time in the windows 11, 12 of the cover plate 10, are pushed back under the cover plate 10 so that the images of the sailboat and of the aircraft appear in place of the initial images. When the blade 5 is closed, the articulated levers 14, 15 drive the plate 13 back to the starting position and, therefore, the initial images reappear in the windows 11, 12 of the cover plate 10.

In the penknife shown in vertical section in fig. 6, the shells 1, 2 are opaque. On the other hand, the shell 1, cooperating with the movable plate 13, is provided with windows 17, 18 in which the images or the texts appear.

Figs. 7 to II show the invention applied to a penknife with automatic opening, the blades 19, 20 of which are subjected to the traction of the coil springs 21, 22 and, when the blades 19, 20 are folded in the case of the penknife where each of they are locked by a bolt 23 or 24, the blades tension the coil springs 21, 22 which, for their part, after unlocking, attract the blades 19, 20 in the open position. Since the construction of such penknives requires that the articulated levers 14, 15, connecting the movable plate 13 carrying the images or texts to the corresponding blade 19, be disposed between the two cheeks 3, 4 of the penknife and that, on the other hand, the movable plate 13 must be applied against the cheek 3, said movable plate 13 is connected to its articulated lever 15 by means of a rivet 25 which is guided in a notch 26 in the cheek 3. In addition, it is also possible to equip such penknives with transparent or opaque shells in the manner described above.

It is obvious that it is possible without departing from the scope of the invention to use the two wide faces of a penknife for the intended purpose, that is to say, to equip the penknife with two movable plates bearing images or texts.
