Dissipative drug delivery device - Subtotal medicine applicator
The present invention relates to a drug delivery device, and more particularly to an aerosol-type delivery device which is particularly suitable for administering a gum to a patient.
Gingival drugs are usually applied topically, usually by brush or vagina. Injection devices have not been found to be unsatisfactory due to the inability to control effective application to precise areas of the user's / patient's mouth while exposing the patient's clothing to staining.
The present invention overcomes the drawbacks of prior art devices by providing a convenient hand-held aerosol dispenser, the tip of which protrudes at a certain angle from the rest of the applicator, providing easy access to the treated site without obstruction of vision. The essential features of the invention are set forth in the appended claims.
The present invention relates to a hand-held, gingival drug delivery device comprising an aerosol container loaded with a gingival filling in liquid form and a propellant. A rod is attached to the canister, the tip of which protrudes out of the rest of the applicator at a certain angle. A channel passes through the rod. A valve is provided to control the flow of liquid from the tank to the duct. The tank is hand-held and is equipped with a button to operate the valve. The passage through the tip member is thinner and the device is provided with a baffle that cooperates with the tip member and its channel and outlet to cause the tip member to oscillate, pulse to be dispensed or discharged, or both.
U.S. Patents 4,386,911 and 4,457,711 disclose a device for treating teeth and gums. In U.S. Patent 4,386,911, parts 64, 98, 100, and 134 are not baffles in the aperture, such as plate 38 in the aperture of the applicator of the present invention. Instead, they are members outside the feeder cam and at the same time throughout the device, and thus are not located in the tapered channel portion towards the outlet of the tip piece. The ribs 64 act as abrasives against the gums and teeth. The same applies to organs 52-58 and 94-96 of US 4,457,711. All of the bodies numbered above in these references are outside the apparatus and none of them is on the tapered tip. At the same time, it is clear that the organs disclosed in the two US publications do not cause vibration in the tip.
In the following, the invention will be illustrated by reference to the drawings.
Fig. 1 is a side view of the gingival drug delivery device of the present invention;
Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view of a member of a rod;
Figure 3 is a detailed sectional view taken along line 3-3 of Figure 2; and Fig. 4 is a sectional view similar to Fig. 3 of a modified form of the present invention.
Referring further to the accompanying drawing and initially to Figure 1, reference numeral 10 generally denotes the gum application device of the present invention .
The applicator 10 includes an aerosol canister 12 loaded with a liquid gingival drug filling 14 and a nitrogen propellant 16. The canister 12 is provided with a valve 18 which is controlled by a button 20 to allow fluid flow.
The container 12 is sized to fit a medium-sized user's palm, and the button is preferably arranged to be easily manipulated with the user's thumb.
The barrel 12 has a discharge opening 22 in the channel 24 of the rod 26 which is secured to the barrel 12. The rod may be made of a synthetic plastic material or suitable sterilized metal and either the bar or the barrel 12 may be disposable and replaceable.
Alternatively, the rod 26 may be permanently attached to the container 12.
The rod 26 and the container 12 may be separated for refilling the container 12 and for washing or sterilizing the rod 26.
Referring now to the structure of rod 26, which is illustrated in greater detail in Figures 2 and 3, rod 26 has a tip member 30 projecting at a certain angle out of the remaining rod portion 32 of rod 26. It has been found that the tip member preferably forms 135160 °, and blunt angle with arm 32. The channel portion 28 in the tip member is preferably thinned at its outlet 36. The thinner shape of the channel member 28 may be such that it causes pulsation of the fluid to be dispensed or discharged and / or vibration of the tip member 30.
As shown in Fig. 4, the selected shape of the baffle 38 is used to provide a pulsating or ejected liquid drug pulsation and / or vibration of the tip piece 30 to improve delivery of the gum.
It should be noted that the rod portion of the rod may be much stiffer than the tip portion to facilitate application of the drug to the area to be treated.
