Bicycle rental system and station

A bicycle rental station, comprising: a bicycle module comprising a bicycle dock adapted to secure a bicycle; an input/output control module in communication with the bicycle module and a meter; wherein the bicycle dock comprises a sensor for obtaining status information related to the bicycle; wherein the input/output control module is configured to communicate status information to a meter and receive electronic commands from the meter; and wherein the bicycle dock comprises an actuator for securing or releasing the bicycle in response to electronic commands.
