Powerline communication control of light emitting diode (led) lighting fixtures

A master controller configured to control a light emitting diode (LED) lighting unit through a power distribution system (110) to supply operating power to the LED lighting unit (130), characterized by: a lighting control command processor (106) configured to generate lighting unit command outputs in a lighting system command format in response to an indication of a user adjustment setting from any one of the plurality of conventional dimming lighting controllers (102), wherein the plurality of conventional dimming lighting controllers (102) are connected to a configurable interface (104) arranged to provide a stimulus (105) to produce a response (103) from at least one of the plurality of controllers (102) conventional dimming lighting, the response (103) of at least one of the plurality of conventional dimming lighting controllers (102) providing the indication of the user adjusted setting of one of the plurality of conventional dimming lighting controllers (102); and a power distribution system interface (108) configured to superimpose lighting unit command outputs on the power distribution system (110) and a power signal present therein as a lighting command signal according to a lighting unit command transmission mode.
