Methods for remotely controlling pools and spas and modifying water contained therein

A method for controlling pool or spa equipment through a network device (18) connected to a controller (14) designed to control the operation of said pool or spa equipment, said method comprises the following steps: a. transmitting, from the network device (18), a signal that mimics an access point for a first Wi-Fi network; b. receiving, at a receiving device (50), the signal transmitted by the network device (18); c. connecting the receiving device (50) for wireless communication with the network device (18); d. then, the network device (18) identifies for the receiving device (50) various network signals that are received, transmitting wirelessly, from the network device (18) to the receiving device (50), a set identifier service, SSID, of at least one second Wi-Fi network with which the network device (18) can communicate wirelessly; and. reconfigure the network device (18) by a user of the receiving device (50) by designating the SSID of the at least one second Wi-Fi network or manually providing the receiving device (50) with the SSID of a second different Wi-Fi network, for wireless communication with the network device (18); and f. control the pool or spa equipment through the network device (18), through the second designated Wi-Fi network.
