Abyssal sequestration of nuclear waste and other types of hazardous waste

Abstract

A method of disposing of nuclear waste, where the method comprises the steps of: i) mixing a waste stream, which includes a radioactive waste with a liquid to produce a dense fluid with a density greater than the density of a rock formation to cause a absolute tendency for the fluid to travel downward: ii) pumping the dense fluid into a chain of tubes from an injection port in said rock formation; and iii) the dense fluid after step (ii) exiting, through a bore in a housing, from the injection hole which is at a predetermined depth to allow said dense fluid to vertically fracture the surrounding rock strata and continue propagating the fracture vertically downwards until said dense fluid is immobilized.
