Single incision laparoscopic tissue retrieval system

A tissue removal system (10) comprising: an elongated introducer (3) having a hollow lumen formed therein; a tissue removal bag (20) having a proximal end (22), a distal end (24), and an edge (26) defining an opening; and an actuator (7) extending at least partially in the hollow lumen of the introducer (3); wherein the tissue removal bag (20) is operable by the actuator (7) from a stowed position where the tissue removal bag (20) is placed within the hollow lumen of the introducer (3) to a position open in which the tissue extraction (20) the bag is substantially outside the introducer (3); wherein in the open position the tissue removal bag (20) has an elongated profile with respect to the edge (26) so that the opening is placed in the bag (20) adjacent to the proximal end (22) and the removal of Tissue comprises a portion of a distal edge (26) that extends distally with respect to / from the opening to the distal end (24) of the tissue removal bag (20), and wherein in the retracted position, the tissue removal bag (20) is a rolled edge (26), characterized in that at the opening about an axis generally parallel to position, the distal end (24) of the tissue removal bag (20) is positioned distal to the distal end of the edge (26), and in the retracted position the distal portion and the distal end (24) of the tissue removal bag (20) each extend distally from the opening relative to the edge (26).
