Method and apparatus for transmitting and receiving packet in a communication system

A transmission packet transmission procedure in a communication system, the method comprising: generating a forward error correction packet (510), FEC, by adding a first FEC payload ID (516), to an input transmission packet comprising a block (520) of origin; generating a parcel (530) of FEC parity by adding a second FEC payload ID (536) to a parity symbol, generating the parity symbol encoding the source block; and transmitting the FEC source packet and the FEC parity packet as transmission packets, in which each of the FEC source packet and the FEC parity packet includes a transmission packet header (512, 532) , and characterized in that the transmission packet header (512, 532) includes type information indicating whether forward error correction coding, FEC, is applied to the transmission packet and, if FEC coding is applied, if the transmission package is an FEC source package or an FEC parity package.
