Surgical knife safety handle
Abstract
A scalpel safety device (10) for both ophthalmic and non-ophthalmic applications, comprising: a recessed body (20, 120) having a distal end, a proximal end and a substantially cylindrical housing extending thereto along a longitudinal axis between said distal and proximal ends; a scalpel holder (26, 126) in said distal outer of said emplacement body (20, 120); a protective device (30, 130) coupled with a mechanism (50) for positioning the protective device for a longitudinal movement between an extended position and a retracted position with respect to said emptiness body (20, 120), said protective device having (30, 130) a proximal end, an enlarged distal end to at least partially surround a scalpel blade fixed to said scalpel holder, and a protective device body that extends along a longitudinal axis between said distal and proximal ends of said protective device (30, 130); and said protective device positioning mechanism (50) having a control mechanism (58) for the user, wherein said cylindrical housing comprises a contour wall (22) of the upper body and a contour wall (24) of the body bottom and defines a camera therein and has at least one slot (28, 128) that extends along said longitudinal axis accessing said camera, said chamber comprising an opening at said distal end of said emptiness body (20, 120), said positioning mechanism (50) being slidably mounted on said chamber, said control mechanism extending to the user from the inside of said chamber through said slot (28, 128), characterized in that said distal end of the contiguous wall (22) of the upper body comprises a coincident semicircular orifice, which extends backward from said distal end, and provides a position in which a contiguous raised surface of an exposed portion of said enlarged distal end of said protective device (30, 130) is seated when folded, and said body of Empufiadura has said raised contoured surface of an exposed portion of said enlarged distal end of said protective device (30, 130) provided at its distal end to allow improved recess control and orientation of the blade in said retracted position.
