DESCRIPTION
Cell reselection method, terminal and system
FIELD OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to a field of mobile communications and more particularly, to a method, terminal and system for cell reselection.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
With developments in the field of mobile communications, various mobile communication systems emerged, for example, a Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM), a GSM Evolution Enhanced Data (eDgE) system, an Access Network system a gSm / eDgE Radio (GERAN), a Wideband Code Division Multiple Access (WCDMA) system, a Code Division Multiple Access (CmDa) system, a Code Division Multiple Access 2000 (CMDA2000) system, a Time Division-CMDA Synchronous (TD-SCDMA) system, a Long-Term Evolution (LTE) system under development and establishment, a Worldwide Interoperability system for Microwave Access (WIMAX), etc. The WCDMA system can also be referred to as a Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS). Due to the emergence of various systems, when a terminal reselects cells during movement, there may be various frequencies available for selection in the system and there may be numerous cells from various systems available for selection. Therefore, it becomes an important question to know how the terminal reselects a suitable cell and how it reduces measurements to save energy consumption.
In the current LTE system, considering that the terminal must reduce the overall measurement load to save energy consumption, when cell reselection is performed, the terminal will decide on a cell in which the terminal has to domicile based on priority. More specifically, the terminal will first measure a frequency or system that has a higher priority. If a cell of the frequency or system having a higher priority meets the cell reselection criteria, the cell will be reselected; otherwise, a cell with a lower priority will be measured. If a terminal is domiciled in a cell that has a lower priority, a cell that has a higher priority could be measured periodically. The cell reselection method, based on priority, can reduce measurements by the terminal and save power consumption. At the same time, correct prioritization can result in load balancing.
In existing technical solutions, the terminal performs cell reselection using a specialized priority list established by the non-LTE mobile communication system. The Access Network node (AN) or the Central Network node (CN) has to add more signaling for the establishment of specialized priorities, which results in higher costs for network modernization.

A 3GPP TSGR2 White Paper # 6 (99) 808 discloses a solution on a cell reselection and cell reselection criteria. A 3GPP whitepaper R2-074001 discloses a solution on IDLE (idle) mode mobility control principles. An EP patent, EP2111074A1, discloses a method of obtaining cell reselection priority. DETAILED DESCRIPTION
In order to further clarify the objectives, technical solutions and advantages of the present invention, detailed descriptions for the practice of the present invention are provided below with reference to the accompanying drawings.
Referring to Figure 1, a cell reselection method disclosed in an embodiment of the present invention comprises the following steps.
In step 001, a terminal obtains a specialized priority list from a first system.
In step 002, the terminal performs a cell reselection in accordance with the specialized priority list when the terminal resides in a cell of a second system.
In the above embodiment of the invention, the terminal performs cell reselection using the specialized priority list obtained from the first system. Thus, there is no need for the second system to establish the specialized priority list.
Furthermore, the first system can be an LTE system and the second system can be a non-LTE system, in one embodiment of the invention. Accordingly, the problems in the prior art that the establishment of the specialized priority list by the non-LTE system causes excessive increase in signaling and too high costs for network modernization are solved.
Furthermore, the terminal in this embodiment can also obtain the validity period of the specialized priority list from the LTE system. Before the validity period expires, the terminal that is domiciled in a cell of the non-LTE system can perform a cell reselection in accordance with the specialized priority list. After the validity period has expired, the specialized priority list is invalid. In such a case, the terminal can perform a cell reselection according to a public priority list or perform a cell reselection based on a measured result according to a cell signal quality criterion or search for a cell from the LTE system. .
Also, the above public priority list can be obtained by the terminal from LTE system or non-LTE system. Optionally, the terminal can process the public priority list based on an indication that is used to notify the terminal that the non-LTE system will not provide the public priority list and / or notify the terminal of the memorization of the priority list obtained from the LTE system.
In addition, the terminal can also perform other processes related to cell reselection based on an indication from the non-LTE system. The indication may notify the terminal of any (or combination) of the following: (1) to search for a cell in the LTE system when the specialized priority list is invalid; (2) search for a cell from the LTE system when the terminal does not memorize the specialized priority list and the public priority list and (3) perform a cell reselection based on a measured result in accordance with a signal quality criterion of cell when the terminal does not memorize the specialized priority list and the public priority list.
ES 2 392 665 T3
In an embodiment of the invention, if no specialized priority list is provided to the terminal from a UMTS or GERAN system, the terminal can use the specialized priority list obtained from the LTE system and the duration of the validity period of the list of specialized priorities. The terminal can use a public priority list provided from the UMTS or GERAN system. Alternatively, if no public priority list is provided from the UMTS or GERAN system, or a public priority list delivered from the UMTS or GERAN system is not received, a public priority list obtained from the LTE system can be used. . When the terminal stores the specialized priority list and the public priority list, the specialized priority list can be used for cell reselection. When the terminal does not have any specialized priority list, the public priority list can be used for cell reselection.
It should be noted that the UMTS and GERAN systems are taken by way of example to describe embodiments of the invention for ease of illustration. The embodiments of the invention are equally applicable to other non-LTE systems, for example the GSM system, the WCDMA system, the CMDA system, the TDSCDMA system or the WIMAX system. Furthermore, the quality of the cell reselection signal, which is one of the performance measures related to the cell reselection procedure, is taken as an example for illustrative purposes in an embodiment of the invention.
A priority in the priority list can refer to the priority level of a frequency or a Radio Access Technology (RAT). Furthermore, it can refer to the priority level of a frequency band in the GERAN system. The priority list may include the priority levels of the frequency of the serving cell, its adjacent frequencies and neighboring systems as well as the priority level assigned to each frequency, or frequency band, of a neighboring system.
In the following embodiments 1 to 4, the cell reselection procedure is described in a case where the terminal is inoperative, that is, the terminal is turned on but not activated.
Realization 1
In this embodiment, the terminal is domiciled in a cell of an LTE system. The LTE system can provide a specialized priority list by means of specialized signaling and provide a public priority list in broadcast information of the system. A UMTS or GERAN system can provide a public priority list. The public priority list, provided in the broadcast information of the UMTS or GERAN system, may indicate a priority such as LTE> UMTS> GERAN. A public priority list can be provided in LTE system broadcast information. Alternatively, the public priority list may be provided through specialized signaling (for example, specialized Radio Resource Control (RRC) signaling) or a Non-Access Stratum (NAS) message when a connection is established. Specialized RRC. The provided public priority list may indicate that LTE> UMTS> GERAN. It can be understood that the above priority list may indicate the same or different priorities. The specialized priority list, provided in the specialized signaling of the LTE system, may indicate that GERAN> uMtS> LTE.
Referring to Figure 2, a method for cell reselection according to Embodiment 1 of the invention may include the following steps.
In step 101, when a terminal is domiciled in a cell of an LTE system, the terminal obtains a specialized priority list and a public priority list from the LTE network side and memorizes the two priority lists.
In step 102, the terminal performs cell reselection in accordance with the obtained specialized priority list. Since the specialized priority list indicates a priority such as GERAN <UMTS> LTE, the terminal in the LTE system cell reselects and introduces a cell from a GERAN system.
Those skilled in the art will appreciate that the terminal in the LTE system cell is reselected and domiciled in the GERAN system cell in accordance with the specialized priority list. If the signal quality of the GERAN cell does not meet the signal quality criteria, the terminal in the GERAN cell performs a cell reselection, again in accordance with the specialized priority list in order to perform reselection and is introduced into a cell of a UMTS system.
In step 103, the terminal obtains a public priority list from the GERAN or UMTS network side and stores the public priority list.
In step 104, the terminal in the UMTS or GERAN system cell obtains an indication of the broadcast information from the GERAN or UMTS system.
The indication is provided periodically in the system broadcast information from the UMTS or GERAN network side. The indication indicates whether the public priority list provided from the UMTS or GERAN system is
ES 2 392 665 T3 usable or not. In this embodiment, for example, the indication shows that the public priority list, provided from the UMTS or GERAN system, is usable.
It can be understood that the delivery of the indication in the broadcast information of the system from the side of the UMTS or GERAN network is not limited by whether the terminal is in the cell of the UMTS system or the GERAN system.
In step 105, the above indication communicates to the terminal that the public priority list provided from the UMTS or GERAN network side is usable. The terminal then deletes the public priority list obtained from the LTE system.
The above deletion of the public priority list obtained from the LTE system, by the terminal, is optional. Alternatively, the terminal can tag the public priority list obtained from the LTE system as "unusable", instead of suppressing the list.
In step 106, before the signal quality of the current cell drops to a certain level, the terminal in the UMTS or GERAN system cell can perform a cell reselection based on the specialized priority list obtained from the system. LTE until the specialized priority list is invalid.
Overriding the specialized priority list can be implemented by setting a timer. In other words, a validity period of the specialized priority list is set by a timer and the timer is operatively started when the terminal obtains the specialized priority list. Before the timer run period expires, the specialized priority list is GERAN> UMTS> LTE. In this way, the terminal will try to reselect a cell from the LTE system only when the signal quality of the current cell drops to a certain level (for example, when it is lower than a preset threshold value). The validity period of the specialized priority list can be provided to the terminal by means of an evolved base station (eNodeB) via specialized RRC signaling, for example, an RRC connection release message, or it can be provided in a Non-Access stratum message (NAS) to the terminal through a CN node. Before the timer expires its period of operation, the terminal is domiciled in a cell that has the highest priority shown in the specialized priority list. At this point, the terminal decides whether to perform a cell reselection based on the signal quality of the cell. When the signal quality of the cell drops to a preset threshold, the terminal can perform cell reselection.
In step 107, when the specialized priority list is invalid, the terminal interrupts its operation using the specialized priority list and deletes the specialized priority list. The terminal uses the public priority list for cell reselection. Since the priority displayed in the public priority list is LTE> UMTS> GERAN, the terminal reselects a cell from the LTE system.
In step 108 (not illustrated in Figure 2), when the terminal is domiciled in a cell of the LTE system, the terminal obtains a new specialized priority list and a validity period of the new specialized priority list from the side of the network by means of a Tracking Area Update (TA) or a periodic TA update procedure.
In this embodiment, step 103 is optional. In other words, the UMTS or GERAN side of the network cannot provide any public priority list and the terminal uses the public priority list obtained from the LTE system.
In this embodiment, step 104 is optional. If no indication is provided in the broadcast information of the UMTS or GERAN system, the terminal and the network side, by default, communicate that the UMTS or GERAN system provides the public priority list in the broadcast information of the system and that the public priority list is usable.
In this embodiment, the terminal performs cell reselection using the specialized priority list obtained from the LTE system and the validity period of the specialized priority list. This is applicable to the case where the UMTS or GERAN system does not provide any specialized priority list to the terminal. When no specialized priority list exists, the terminal performs cell reselection using the public priority list obtained from the LTE system or provided from the UMTS or GERAN system. In this embodiment, the terminal uses the specialized priority list obtained from the LTE system for cell reselection, so that the non-LTE system can be relieved of the task of establishing the specialized priority list. The problems, in the prior art, that the establishment of the specialized priority list, by the non-LTE system, causes an excessive increase in signaling and too high costs for the modernization of the network, are solved with this embodiment. .
ES 2 392 665 T3
Embodiment 2
In this embodiment, a terminal is domiciled in a cell of a UMTS or GERAN system and the UMTS or GERAN system provides a public priority list. Consequently, the terminal can only obtain the public priority list from the broadcast information of the UMTS or GERAN system and memorizes the public priority list. The terminal cannot get a specialized priority list and a public priority list provided from the LTE system. The public priority list, provided from the broadcast information of the UMTS or GERAN system, indicates that the priority is LTE> UMTS> GERAN. When the terminal is introduced into a cell of the LTE system, the LTE system provides a public priority list in the broadcast information of the system. The public priority list provided in the LTE system broadcast information indicates that the priority is LTE> UMTS> GERAN. The specialized priority list is delivered in the LTE system, by means of specialized signaling, and said specialized priority list indicates that the priority is GERAN> UMTS> LTE.
When the terminal is domiciled in a cell of the UMTS or GERAN system, the terminal performs a cell selection after activation or going back from a non-coverage area to a coverage area. For example, the terminal is domiciled in a cell of the UMTS or GERAN system before disconnection. When the terminal is disconnected, the information about the UMTS or GERAN system cell is memorized. When the terminal is activated, the terminal searches for a cell in the UMTS or GERAN system. When there is a suitable cell in the UMTS or GERAN system, the terminal is domiciled in the appropriate cell. As an alternative, when the terminal does not memorize any information about the UMTS or GERAN system cell or when the terminal backs up from a non-coverage area to a covered area, the terminal selects and resides in a UMTS or GERAN system cell after activation.
A method for cell reselection, according to Embodiment 2 of the invention, may include the following steps.
In step 201, a terminal obtains a public priority list from the broadcast information of the UMTS or GERAN system and stores the priority list.
In step 202, the terminal performs a cell reselection in accordance with the above public priority list. Since the priority of the public priority list is LTE> UMTS> GERAN, the terminal reselects a cell in an LTE system.
In step 203, when the terminal enters a cell of the LTE system, the terminal obtains a specialized priority list from the network side of the LTE system by means of a TA update procedure or a periodic TA update procedure. or a procedure for establishing and clearing traffic. After obtaining the specialized priority list, the terminal proceeds to reselect a cell of the GERAN system in accordance with the specialized priority list.
Those skilled in the art can understand that the next steps 204-208 of this embodiment are similar to steps 104-108 of Embodiment 1 after the terminal enters the GERAN cell. Therefore, no repeated description is made here. It is optional whether or not the UMTS or GERAN provides an indication in the broadcast information of the system.
This embodiment differs from the previous embodiment in that: when the terminal is domiciled in the cell of the UMTS or GERAN system; the UMTS or GERAN system does not provide any specialized priority list to the terminal, but can provide a public priority list to the terminal; the terminal can use the public priority list to reselect a cell from the LTE system; the specialized priority list provided can be obtained from the LTE system and a cell reselection can be performed once again.
Due to the fact that the terminal performs cell reselection using the specialized priority list obtained from the LTE, the non-LTE system can be relieved of the task of establishing the specialized priority list. The problems in the prior art that the establishment of the specialized priority list by the non-LTE system causes excessive signaling growth and too high costs for network modernization are solved by this embodiment.
Embodiment 3
In this embodiment, a terminal is domiciled in a cell of an LTE system. The LTE system can provide a specialized priority list by means of specialized signaling and provide a list
ES 2 392 665 T3 of public priorities in the dissemination information of the system. A UMTS or GERAN system does not provide any public priority list. The public priority list, provided in the LTE system broadcast information, can indicate a priority such as LTE> UMTS> GERAN and the specialized priority list provided through the LTE specialized signaling can indicate a priority such as GERAN> UMTS > LTE.
A method for cell reselection, in this embodiment, may include the following steps.
In step 301, a terminal is domiciled in a cell of the LTE system. The terminal has obtained a specialized priority list and a public priority list from the LTE network side and has memorized the two priority lists.
In step 302, after obtaining the priority lists, the terminal performs a cell reselect in accordance with the specialized priority list. Since the specialized priority list indicates a priority such as GERAN> UMTS> LTE, the terminal in the LTE system cell performs reselection and enters a cell in a GERAN system.
In step 303, the terminal obtains an indication from the broadcast information of the UMTS or GERAN system.
The above indication is provided from the UMTS or GERAN side of the network to the terminal in the system broadcast information, which is used to indicate that the UMTS or GERAN system does not provide any public priority list. The terminal then retains the public priority list obtained from the LTE system.
In step 304, the above indication notifies the terminal that the UMTS or GERAN system will not provide any usable public priority list and the terminal retains the public priority list obtained from the LTE system.
The indication is not limited to the above contents and may include some extended contents as follows.
(1) The terminal is notified to perform a periodic search for a cell in the LTE system when the specialized priority list obtained from the LTE system is invalid, and then it is deleted.
(2) The terminal is notified to perform a cell reselection procedure using existing cell reselection criteria when no priority information is stored. In other words, the terminal uses the existing cell reselection criterion which makes the measurement and comparison in accordance with a signal quality criterion.
During implementation, a bit included in the indication can be used to determine one of the three contents included in the previous indication. Alternatively, three choices can be provided at the same time by means of two bits included in the indication.
In the above solution, step 303 is a mandatory step. When the terminal knows from the indication that the UMTS or GERAN system will not provide any available public priority list and the terminal has not memorized any public priority list, the terminal can perform subsequent operations in accordance with the extended contents of the previous indication.
Steps 305-307 of this embodiment are similar to steps 106-108 of Embodiment 1 and therefore no repeated description is made here.
In this embodiment, after the terminal enters a cell of the UMTS or GERAN system, the UMTS or GERAN system will not provide a public priority list. The terminal performs its subsequent actions according to the indication provided from the UMTS or GERAN system or the public priority list obtained from the LTE system and stored in the terminal.
In this embodiment, the terminal performs cell reselection using the specialized priority list obtained from the LTE system. In this way, the non-LTE system can be freed from the task of establishing the specialized priority list. The problems in the prior art that the establishment of the specialized priority list, by the non-LTE system, causes an excessive increase in signaling and too high costs for the network upgrade are solved in this embodiment. At the same time, in the event that the terminal does not receive any public priority list provided from the non-LTE system, further actions can be performed using the specialized priority list obtained from the LTE system or according to the received indication, which improves flexibility for cell reselection.
Embodiment 4
In this embodiment, a terminal is domiciled in a cell of a UMTS or GERAN system. The UMTS or GERAN system will not provide a public priority list. An LTE system can provide a specialized priority list via specialized signaling and provide a public priority list on the
ES 2 392 665 T3 system broadcast information. The public priority list, provided from the LTE system broadcast information, indicates a priority such as LTE> UMTS> GERAN. The specialized priority list, provided through LTE specialized signaling, indicates a priority such as GERAN> uMtS> LTE.
A method for cell reselection in this embodiment may include the following steps.
In step 401, a terminal is domiciled in a cell of a UMTS or GERAN system, but the terminal has not obtained a specialized priority list or a public priority list.
In step 402, the network side of the UMTS or GERAN system provides an indication to the terminal in the broadcast information of the system.
In step 403, the terminal in the UMTS or GERAN system cell obtains the indication from the broadcast information of the system.
In step 404, the above indication notifies the terminal that the UMTS or GERAN system cell has not provided a public priority list.
Or, the indication notifies the terminal that the terminal performs a periodic search for a cell in an LTE system when the specialized priority list is invalid.
Or, the indication notifies the terminal to perform a cell reselection procedure using existing cell reselection criteria when no priority information is stored.
In step 405, the terminal performs reselection and enters a cell of an LTE system.
The terminal can reselect a cell in the LTE system by periodically searching for the cell in the LTE system. Alternatively, the terminal can perform cell reselection from the LTE system by performing a cell reselection procedure employing existing cell reselection criteria.
In step 406, when the terminal is domiciled in a cell of the LTE system, the terminal obtains a specialized priority list from the network side by means of a TA update procedure or a periodic TA update procedure or a traffic set-up and release procedure and obtains a public priority list from the network side through the broadcast information of the system. After obtaining the priority list, the terminal performs a cell reselection in accordance with the specialized priority list. Since the specialized priority list is GERAN> UMTS> LTE, the terminal in the LTE system cell, performs a reselection and enters a UMTS or GERAN system cell.
The steps after step 406 are similar to the steps described in Embodiment 3 after the terminal in the LTE cell performs a reselection and enters a UMTS or GERAN cell. Therefore, no repeated description is made here.
This embodiment differs from embodiment 3 in that the terminal is domiciled in a cell of the UMTS or GERAN system, the UMTS or GERAN system will not provide any public priority list and the terminal performs subsequent actions based on the indication provided from a UMTS or GERAN system.
In this embodiment, the terminal performs cell reselection using the specialized priority list obtained from the LTE system. In this way, the non-LTE system can be freed from the task of establishing the specialized priority list. The problems in the prior art that the establishment of the specialized priority list by the non-LTE system causes excessive signaling growth and too high costs for network modernization are solved in this embodiment. At the same time, in the event that the terminal does not receive any public priority list provided from the non-LTE system, its subsequent actions can be performed using the specialized priority list obtained from the LTE system or based on the received indication. , which improves flexibility for cell reselection.
In the next embodiment of the cell reselection procedure, for example, the terminal is activated, that is, the terminal is in the connected state. The activated terminal is switched to a new cell via the cell reselection procedure.
Embodiment 5
In this embodiment, a terminal is domiciled in a cell of an LTE system and the terminal is activated. The activated terminal is switched from the cell of the LTE system to a cell of a UMTS or GERAN system. The LTE system provides a specialized priority list through specialized signaling and provides a public priority list in the broadcast information of the system. The UMTS or GERAN system provides a public priority list. The public priority list provided in the UMTS broadcast information
ES 2 392 665 T3 or GERAN indicates a priority such as LTE> UMTS> GERAN. The public priority list, delivered in the LTE system broadcast information, indicates a priority such as LTE> UMTS> GERAN. The specialized priority list provided in LTE specialized signaling indicates a priority such as GERAN> UMTS> LTE.
A method for cell reselection according to this embodiment includes the following steps.
In step 501, a terminal activated in a cell of an LTE system obtains a specialized priority list and a public priority list from the LTE network side and memorizes the two priority lists.
During the RRC connection establishment procedure, the terminal obtains the specialized priority list in the following steps. When the terminal performs the RRC connection establishment procedure with a node eNodeB, upon entering the RRC connection state, the terminal gets a new specialized priority list and at the same time releases the old specialized priority list .
Alternatively, the terminal may not release the current specialized priority list after the RRC connection is established. Instead, the current specialized priority list is overlaid with a new specialized priority list in an RRC connection release message.
In step 502, the terminal switches from the LTE system cell to a UMTS or GERAN system cell and releases the RRC connection in the UMTS or GERAN system cell.
After the terminal enters the cell of the UMTS or GERAN system, steps 503-508 to be performed are similar to steps 103-108 of Embodiment 1 and therefore are not repeated in this description.
In the technical solution according to this embodiment, the activated terminal performs cell reselection / switching from an LTE system cell to a UMTS or GERAN system cell. The terminal obtains a specialized priority list during the RRC connection establishment procedure. Or, during the RRC connection establishment procedure, the current specialized priority list is not released and the current specialized priority list is overlaid with a new specialized priority list in the RRC connection release message. The problem in the prior art that the old specialized priority list is deleted before the terminal obtains a new specialized priority list is solved in this embodiment. Also, in this embodiment, the terminal performs cell reselection using the specialized priority list obtained from the LTE system, which can free the non-LTE system from setting the specialized priority list. The problems in the prior art that the establishment of the specialized priority list by the non-LTE system causes excessive signaling growth and too high costs for network modernization are solved in this embodiment.

Embodiment 7
This embodiment provides a system, including a network side device and a terminal.
The network side device is configured to provide an indication to the terminal, where the indication is used to notify the terminal that the non-LTE system, in which the terminal is domiciled, will not provide the public priority list or to notify to the terminal the memorization of the public priority list obtained from the LTE system or to notify the terminal of the search for a cell of the LTE system when the specialized priority list, memorized in the terminal, it is invalid either to search for a cell from the LTE system or to perform a cell reselection based on a measured result in accordance with a cell signal quality criterion, when the terminal does not memorize the specialized priority list or the public priority list.
The terminal is configured to receive an indication from the network side device and to perform cell reselection based on the indication.
Embodiment 8
This embodiment provides a system, including a network side device and a terminal.
The device on the network side is within an LTE system, including a first transmission unit configured to transmit a specialized priority list.
The terminal includes a first storage unit configured to receive and store the specialized priority list and a first processing unit configured to perform a reselection of cells in accordance with the specialized priority list when the terminal is domiciled in a cell of a system not LTE.
