Systems and methods for cryptographic authentication of contactless cards

Abstract

Example embodiments of system and methods for data transmission between a contactless card, a client device, and one or more servers are provided. The contactless card may include one or more processors and memory. The memory may include one or more applets. The client device may include one or more processors and memory. The client device may be in data communication with the contactless card. One or more servers may be in data communication with the client device. A first set of information may be transmitted from the contactless card to the client device. A first set of information may include one or more links to activate the contactless card. The client device may be configured to receive the first set of information from the contactless card. Upon validation of the first set of information, the contactless card may be activated.

15 claims: 9 independent, 6 dependent

  1. 1
A contactless card (500, 1305), comprising:a processor (530, 1312);a memory (535, 1314), containing one or more applets (540, 1311);wherein the processor (530, 1312) is configured to transmit, after entry of the contactless card (500, 1305) into a communication field of a client device (110, 1310), a link configured to initiate a phone call on the client device, wherein the link comprises one or more information elements configured to activate the contactless card (500, 1305), wherein the one or more information elements including an information element comprising one or more payloads, the payloads being dynamically generated by the applet.
  2. 6
The contactless card of (500, 1305) claim 2, wherein the one or more payloads include instructions for at least one selected from the group of (i) requesting or causing an automated clearing house (ACH) payment to occur, (ii) approving or causing a wire transfer to occur from or to an account associated with a user of the contactless card (500, 1305), (iii) registering, verifying the registration of, or authenticating the user to allow, an account or contactless card (500, 1305) associated with the user to be attached to a payment service associated with a device, and (iv) request an account activity including at least one selected from the group of a debt limit increase for a credit account, a request for an expedited transaction, and a request to dispute a transaction.
  3. 7
The contactless card (500, 1305) of any preceding claim, wherein, at least one of the one or more payloads is an identification token.
  4. 8
The contactless card (500, 1305) of any preceding claim, wherein:the contactless card (500, 1305) is configured to stop dynamic generation of the one or more payloads upon receipt of an instruction.
  5. 9
The contactless card of any preceding claims wherein the one or more payloads are encrypted payloads.
  6. 10
A method of activating a contactless card, the method comprising a server:receiving, via a telephone call, one or more information elements from a client device, wherein: the one or more information elements are configured to activate the contactless card (500, 1305), and the one or more information elements include a one or more payloads dynamically generated by the contactless card, validating the one or more information elements, and after validating the one or more information elements, activating the contactless card (500, 1305).
  7. 13
The method of any preceding claim, wherein the one or more payloads are encrypted payloads.
  8. 14
A server comprising:a processor (530, 1312);and a memory (535, 1314), wherein the processor (530, 1312) is configured to carry out a method according to any one of claims 10-13.
  9. 15
A computer readable medium comprising instructions which when carried out by a computer cause the computer to carry out a method according to any one of claims 10-13.
