Devices, systems, and methods for incontinence control

Abstract

Provided are devices and methods for preventing an episode of incontinence in an individual in need thereof. The devices comprise a sensor and a stimulator electrode that can be implanted into the body of the individual. Once the device is implanted in the individual, the sensor of the device senses a parameter that is associated with a response from the individual that is intended to prevent an episode of incontinence. Then, the device provides an electrical stimulation using the electrode that, together with the response, helps to prevent the episode of incontinence.

  1. 1
A system for preventing an episode of incontinence in an individual in need thereof, the system comprising:a sensor configured to sense a parameter that is associated with an individual's effort to prevent the episode of incontinence;an implantable stimulator electrode configured to provide basal stimulation;a processor;and a non-transitory computer readable storage medium including software configured to cause the processor to: (i) receive the parameter that is associated with the individual's effort to prevent the episode of incontinence;(ii) analyze the parameter that is associated with the individual's effort to prevent the episode of incontinence;and (iii) based on the parameter that is associated with the individual's effort to prevent the episode of incontinence, cause the implantable stimulator electrode to increase the basal electrical stimulation level to an activated stimulation provided to the individual, wherein the activated stimulation is suitable for preventing the episode of incontinence.
  2. 4
The system any one of the preceding claims, wherein the software is configured to cause the processor to enable the activated stimulation upon manual operation by the individual.
