Displays for a medical device

Abstract

Embodiments described herein relate to a glucose monitoring system having a glucose sensor positioned in contact with interstitial fluid in a body of a user. A transmitter unit is coupled to the glucose sensor and processes data indicative of a plurality of monitored glucose levels from the glucose sensor. A receiver unit receives the processed data from the transmitter unit. The receiver unit comprises a processor and a user interface having a touch-sensitive display to render a plurality of display screens, including a home screen and an alert screen. The home screen is divided into a plurality of simultaneously displayed panels, with a first panel displaying the plurality of monitored glucose levels, a second panel simultaneously displaying a current glucose level and a glucose trend indicator, and a third panel displays status information of a plurality of components of the system. When an alarm condition is detected, the display renders the alert screen in place of one of the first panel, the second panel, or the third panel. The alert screen displays information corresponding to the detected alarm condition. The display affects a further output corresponding to the detected condition in response to user actuation of a portion of the display.

17 claims: 10 independent, 7 dependent

  1. 1
A glucose monitoring system, comprising:a glucose sensor configured to be physically positioned in the body of a user;a transmitter unit configured to be physically coupled to the glucose sensor, wherein the transmitter unit is configured to receive a data signal from the glucose sensor corresponding to a sampled glucose level of the user;and a receiver unit comprising a user interface having a touch-sensitive display;wherein the transmitter unit is further configured to transmit glucose data to the receiver unit;wherein the touch-sensitive display is configured to output at least a home screen, wherein the home screen includes a plurality of panels comprising at least a first panel and a second panel;wherein the first panel is configured to display a graph of continuous glucose levels of the user;wherein the second panel is configured to simultaneously display glucose information and a glucose trend indicator, wherein the glucose information is numerically displayed and represents a current glucose level;and wherein the touch-sensitive display is configured to display the glucose information of the second panel of the home screen in a color coded format to indicate whether the current glucose level is within or outside predetermined threshold levels.
  2. 7
The glucose monitoring system of any of claims 2 to 6, wherein the alert screen includes a title portion that indicates the nature of the alert screen.
  3. 8
The glucose monitoring system of any of claims 2 to 7, wherein, in response to user input through the touch-sensitive display to acknowledge the alert screen, the touch-sensitive display is configured to return to the home screen, optionally wherein the user input comprises selecting a softkey label displayed on the touch-sensitive display.
  4. 9
The glucose monitoring system of any of claims 2 to 8, wherein the touch-sensitive display is configured to output a softkey label in response to detecting the alarm condition, and, when a touch-sensitive area of the touch-sensitive display corresponding to the softkey label is touched, the touch-sensitive display is configured to output a further screen corresponding to the detected alarm condition.
  5. 10
The glucose monitoring system of any preceding claim, wherein the plurality of panels of the home screen comprises a third panel, and wherein the third panel is configured to display status information associated with the glucose monitoring system, optionally wherein the status information corresponds to the status of a plurality of components of the receiver unit.
  6. 13
The glucose monitoring system of any of claims 10 to 12, wherein the status information comprises a sensor life icon.
  7. 14
The glucose monitoring system of any preceding claim, wherein the graph includes a lower glucose target indicator and an upper glucose target indicator.
  8. 15
The glucose monitoring system of any preceding claim, wherein the glucose trend indicator comprises an icon in the form of an arrow indicating a rate of change of the glucose level of the user and a direction of the change.
  9. 16
The glucose monitoring system of any preceding claim, wherein the transmitter unit is configured to communicate with the receiver unit via a bi-directional communication link.
  10. 17
A method comprising:receiving, at a receiver unit of a glucose monitoring system, glucose data from a transmitter unit of the glucose monitoring system, wherein the transmitter unit is configured to be physically coupled to a glucose sensor and is configured to receive a data signal from the glucose sensor corresponding to a sampled glucose level of the user, wherein the glucose sensor is configured to be physically positioned in the body of the user, and wherein the receiver unit comprises a user interface having a touch-sensitive display;outputting, by the touch-sensitive display, at least a home screen, wherein the home screen includes a plurality of panels comprising at least a first panel and a second panel;wherein the first panel displays a graph of continuous glucose levels of the user;wherein the second panel simultaneously displays glucose information and a glucose trend indicator, wherein the glucose information is numerically displayed and represents a current glucose level;and displaying, by the touch-sensitive display, the glucose information of the second panel of the home screen in a color coded format to indicate whether the current glucose level is within or outside predetermined threshold levels.
