Threaded implants and methods of use across bone segments

Abstract

A threaded implant can be provided with an elongated main body having external threads configured to thread into bone, and an internal support structure located within the external threads. The internal support structure has a helical arrangement that extends in an opposite direction to the external threads. Other threaded implants and methods are also disclosed.

12 claims: 1 independent, 11 dependent

  1. 1
A threaded implant (300, 400) comprising:an elongated main body (322,410) having external threads (310, 426) configured to thread into bone;an internal support structure (312, 428) located within the external threads, characterized in that the implant comprises a helical porous infill (320, 430) between the external threads.
  2. 7
The threaded implant of Claim 1, wherein the elongated main body (322,410) and the helical porous infill (320, 430) are made together in the same manufacturing process.
  3. 8
The threaded implant of Claim 7, wherein the manufacturing process is an additive manufacturing process.
  4. 9
The threaded implant of Claim 1, wherein the helical porous infill (320, 430) forms a root diameter of the external threads (310, 426).
  5. 10
The threaded implant of Claim 1, wherein the internal support structure (312, 428) has a helical arrangement that extends in an opposite direction to the external threads (310, 426).
  6. 11
The threaded implant of Claim 1, wherein the internal support structure (312, 428) has a helical arrangement that extends in the same direction as the external threads (310, 426).
  7. 12
The threaded implant of Claim 1, wherein the internal support structure (312, 428) has a shape other than helical.
