Generating and displaying customized avatars in electronic messages

Abstract

Among other things, embodiments of the present disclosure improve the functionality of electronic messaging software and systems by generating customized images with avatars of different users within electronic messages. For example, users of different mobile computing devices can exchange electronic communications with images generated to include avatars representing themselves as well as their friends, colleagues, and other acquaintances.

15 claims: 8 independent, 7 dependent

  1. 1
A system comprising:a processor (704);and a memory (706) coupled to the processor (704) and storing instructions that, when executed by the processor (704), cause the processor (704) to perform operations comprising: receiving (435), from a first computing device, a first electronic communication including a sent image, the sent image including a first avatar representing a first user and a second avatar representing a second user, the first electronic communication being between the first user of the first computing device and the second user of a second computing device;analyzing (440) the sent image to identify content of the sent image;generating (445) a response image based on the content of the sent image, wherein the response image comprises the first avatar and the second avatar that are generated based on avatar characteristics;causing (450) the response image to be displayed on the second computing device;and in response to selection of the response image on the second computing device: generating a second electronic communication including the response image, and causing the second electronic communication including the response image to be transmitted from the second computing device to the first computing device.
  2. 6
The system of any of claims 2 to 5, wherein the communication data includes a history of electronic communications between the first user and the second user, wherein the history of electronic communications includes a plurality of electronic communications including the first electronic communication.
  3. 7
The system of any preceding claim, wherein generating the response image includes:retrieving location information for the first computing device;retrieving location information for the second computing device;and generating (445) the response image based on the location for the first computing device or the location for the second computing device.
  4. 11
The system of any of claims 7 to 10, wherein generating the response image (445) based on the location for the first computing device or the location for the second computing device further includes:identifying a third computing device of a third user based on location information received from the third computing device;generating the response image to include a third avatar representing the third user;and causing a third electronic communication including the response image to be transmitted from the first computing device to the third computing device.
  5. 12
The system of any preceding claim, wherein the processor performs operations further comprising:generating (460) an event story comprising a series of a plurality of electronic communications between the first user and the second user;and receiving authorization from the first computing device for access to the event story for a predetermined period of time;preferably, wherein the processor performs operations further comprising: receiving a selection of the event story from the second client device within the predetermined period of time;and causing the event story to be displayed on the second client device.
  6. 13
The system of any preceding claim, wherein generating (445) the response image includes:generating the response image within a video game;and causing the video game to be displayed on the first computing device and the second computing device;preferably, wherein the first avatar and the second avatar included in the image are dynamically modified based on events occurring within the video game.
  7. 14
A computer-implemented method comprising:receiving (435), from a first computing device, a first electronic communication including a sent image, the sent image including a first avatar representing a first user and a second avatar representing a second user, the first electronic communication being between the first user of the first computing device and the second user of a second computing device;analyzing (440) the sent image to identify content of the sent image;generating (445) a response image based on the content of the sent image, wherein the response image comprises the first avatar and the second avatar that are generated based on avatar characteristics;causing (450) the response image to be displayed on the second computing device;and in response to selection of the response image on the second computing device: generating a second electronic communication including the response image, and causing the second electronic communication including the response image to be transmitted from the second computing device to the first computing device.
  8. 15
A non-transitory computer-readable medium storing instructions that, when executed by a processor, cause the processor to perform operations comprising:receiving (435), from a first computing device, a first electronic communication including a sent image, the sent image including a first avatar representing a first user and a second avatar representing a second user, the first electronic communication being between the first user of the first computing device and the second user of a second computing device;analyzing (440) the sent image to identify content of the sent image;generating (445) a response image based on the content of the sent image, wherein the response image comprises the first avatar and the second avatar that are generated based on avatar characteristics;causing (450) the response image to be displayed on the second computing device;and in response to selection of the response image on the second computing device: generating a second electronic communication including the response image, and causing the second electronic communication including the response image to be transmitted from the second computing device to the first computing device.
