Overwrap material containing aerosol former for aerosol source member

Abstract

The present disclosure provides an aerosol source member, and an overwrap material configured to substantially surround a substrate portion of an aerosol source member. In an example implementation, the aerosol source member may comprise a substrate portion that includes a substrate material configured to generate a primary inhalable substance upon the application of heat thereupon, the substrate portion defining an outer surface, and an overwrap material configured to substantially surround the outer surface of the substrate portion, wherein the overwrap material comprises a plurality of layers, and wherein at least one of the layers of the overwrap material contains an aerosol generating component.

15 claims: 9 independent, 6 dependent

  1. 1
An overwrap material configured to substantially surround an outer surface of a substrate portion of an aerosol source member, the overwrap material comprising:a plurality of layers, wherein at least one of the layers of the overwrap material contains an aerosol generating component, and wherein upon the application of heat thereupon, the overwrap material is configured to produce an inhalable substance, wherein the overwrap material comprises at least an outer layer, an inner layer positioned proximate an outer surface of the substrate material, and an intermediate layer positioned between the outer layer and the inner layer, wherein the outer layer comprises a paper material, the intermediate layer comprises a foil material, and the inner layer comprises an aerosol generating material.
  2. 2
The overwrap material of Claim 1, wherein the aerosol generating component contained in the overwrap material has an aerosol former loading of approximately 2% - 20%.
  3. 3
The overwrap material of Claim 1, wherein the aerosol generating component contained in the overwrap material has an aerosol former loading of approximately 20% - 40%.
  4. 4
The overwrap material of any of Claims 1-3, wherein the aerosol generating material comprises a cast sheet containing a fibrous material.
  5. 5
The overwrap material of any of Claims 1-3, wherein the aerosol generating material comprises a reconstituted tobacco sheet.
  6. 6
The overwrap material of any of Claims 1-5, wherein the overwrap material is configured to produce the inhalable substance in response to application of heat from an electrically generated heat source.
  7. 7
The overwrap material of any of Claims 1-5, wherein the overwrap material is configured to produce the inhalable substance in response to application of heat from a combustible carbon-based heat source.
  8. 8
The overwrap material of any of Claim 1-7, wherein the overwrap material is configured to produce the inhalable substance in response to application of heat from inside of an aerosol source member containing the overwrap material.
  9. 9
The overwrap material of any of Claim 1-7, wherein the overwrap material is configured to produce the inhalable substance in response to application of heat from outside of an aerosol source member containing the overwrap material.
  10. 10
The overwrap material of any of Claims 1-5 and 7 further comprising a plurality of cooling openings formed in the overwrap material.
  11. 11
The overwrap material of Claim 10, wherein the cooling openings are formed in an area proximate a mouthend of the overwrap material.
  12. 12
The overwrap material of any of Claims 10-11, wherein the cooling openings comprise a plurality of openings substantially evenly spaced around the outer surface of the overwrap material.
  13. 13
The overwrap material of any of Claims 1-5 and 7 further comprising a plurality of air entry openings.
  14. 14
The overwrap material of Claim 13, wherein the plurality of air entry openings are formed in an area proximate a heat source end of the overwrap material.
  15. 15
The overwrap material of any of Claims 10-14, wherein the plurality of cooling openings and/or the plurality of air entry openings are formed via laser perforation.
